Went in with my boyfriend and ordered a fish taco as well as the grilled chicken fajita burrito. Service was fast and friendly and the food was great! The fish taco was definitely one of the better ones I’ve had. They serve 2 different fish tacos and we just got the least expensive one which was perfect for us. In the salsa bar we liked the green salsa the best! Try them out!

I have Come here often and although the food is decent in taste it is very expensive. I am all for paying premium prices for premium quality but this is not high quality. Got a Mexican Cesar wrap for lunch $ 12 including tip, the wrap was not even wrapped with care which resulted in it falling apart while eating it. This was very sad and frustrating. Probably my last time eating here for a while.

Service at my last visit was excellent, as were the chips & salsa. Lime wedges at the salsa bar are a nice feature. On the down side: they seem to have maybe cut back a bit on the protein in their burritos. And a lunch consisting of a burrito + a bottled beer really shouldn’t set you back $ 19.26 plus tip, even if it’s good quality and in Carmel.

Had the chicken taquitos. They were great, chicken was tasty and they were served with guacamole, sour cream and cheese. Friendly and extremely fast service. Kids had bean and cheese burritos also loved them too!

Great fish tacos in the busy shopping center area. The menu is posted so if pricing is an issue you can choose not to eat there but it’s a good restaurant and can get busy during lunch hour. A great stop with lots of options particularly if you were looking to be out of the downtown Carmel area.

This rating is modified a little bit taking into account the area. Came here on a Saturday while in town with a friend(who was not with me for the meal). It has a Hawaiian/surfing theme and is cutely decorated. The cashier/server was friendly enough at first, though when I asked that a specific table be cleaned, she got very defensive. I work at a restaurant but it’s not like the place was swamped, and I was very polite about it. Honestly, that small interaction influenced the rest of my meal. The food was good – not great, but good. I had a grilled chicken quesadilla. Everything tasted fresh and had flavor, but it was in no way exceptional. The portion size was decent but for $ 10 I would have liked more. It also could have used a few extra minutes on the grill. So, again, for the area this was not a bad value. Carmel is just expensive. There’s not a lot of inexpensive choices(just Unilocal it with filtering on one dollar sign and you’ll see what I mean). Bottom line: it will get the job done, but don’t expect any socks to get knocked off.

I have always enjoyed Island Taco, but yesterday, I was served a fish taco that will probably keep me from returning. The taco had a piece of fish that was a lump, rather than a strip that would fit into a folded taco(kind of what it is supposed to do) that was placed in the middle, then covered with so much produce that the only way to eat it was with a knife and fork. I’ve had better than was served to me yesterday. Island Taco, please get it together!

Went in. Looking for some fast but not Taco Bell Tacos. In a small location, it was clean but I was unsure about ordering. I had the shredded chicken tacos with a cup of Tortilla Soup. It was delicious! The tacos were served sort of open face with two soft corn tortillas-they were house/home made, not pre-packaged. There was plenty of chicken, and they were huge, just stuffed with lots of lettuce, pico and cheese. Be adventurous and try something other than a chain Tex Mex restaurant.

I had a carne asada taco and a carnitas taco. They were good enough! They pile on the lettuce and don’t give much pico, sauce, or meat. They do give two tortillas a taco to keep it from falling apart! I just split all the lettuce and the little bit of meat up to make two tacos! It’s convenient and fairly inexpensive so I’d eat here again.

The food is decent for the prices but the Customer Service is poor. We are repeat, local customers. Tonight we ordered a carne a safe burrito for my husband and I to share and four bean, rice and cheese burritos for our children. Unfortunately, they gave us the rice on the side– although specially asked for the rice inside the burritos. When we asked for a correction, the staff offered to give us extra chips next time? There was no offer to reconcile the order or give us any type of future discount or credit. Instead, I had to unwrap every burrito and add rice to each one– which was a mess and was really effective as the burritos fell apart. The irony is that I am having surgery tomorrow morning so we decided to eat out to make it less of a burden on me…

Great service and friendly. However my tofu tacos were the most flavorless thing I’ve ever tasted… They should work on that one. My husbands fish burrito was good though and they provided water for our little dogs.

I finally found a burrito on the Monterey Peninsula that delivers on flavor, quality of ingredients and overall value. Order at the counter and they bring it to your table. I had the chicken ‘Fajita Burrito’. The tortilla is thinner than you might expect but it holds together well through the meal. The burrito was filled with a fair amount quality diced grilled chicken, fresh grilled onions, red bell peppers, black beans and rice. The flavor was unique and really unexpected for a place that on the surface looks like a common taqueria. I could not identify the overriding spice flavor so I asked the woman at the front counter what spice dominated the recipe. She told me it was a proprietary fajita mix and really did not know what went into it. Okay, I tried. It was large enough that I boxed up half and had it for dinner. My wife had a rice bowl with shredded beef. The beef was very good, authentic. Pricey at nearly $ 9., no disguising this fact. Four of the five salsas in the salsa bar were of top quality. The pico de gallo was the star. My wife’s green tea concoction tasted soapy, something went wrong here and for this reason I’m knocking off a star. On another note the restaurant was being run by an all female crew. A counter person and two cooks. This is only noteworthy because I’ve never seen this in a Mexican food establishment. We will definitely place Island Taco on the lunch rotation. They got me with that fajita burrito recipe.
