Dr. Michel also has a Ph.D. in chemistry. He is extremely knowledgeable about medications and nutrition. In addition, he is friendly, interesting, and concerned about his patients. I don’t consider him eccentric; has a vast intellectual curiosity that encompasses his patient and his patient’s condition. The thing I like most about him, however, is something that other people might find a drawback. He doesn’t just rush you in and out, he takes whatever time is necessary. This means that he is often behind schedule and you have to be prepared to spend some time waiting, so you need to free a fair chunk of time for your visit. For those of us who have that time, however, the wait is well worth it. He is by far the best general practitioner I have seen on the Peninsula.

I have seen Dr. Michel in the past. I found him eccentric and bizarre because of his obsession with frogs — but he is an expert on travel medicine. As I am traveling to Mexico, I called to schedule an appointment to get any necessary shots. His assistant left me on hold twice to go ask the Doctor what it was I needed. In the end, after waiting interminably, Dr. Michel’s told the assistant to tell me that without a history of what I’d been inoculated for in the past, he could not help me. I’d told the assistant that I’d had no vaccine or shot in 50 years. She told that to Michel, but he stood firm. So I told her that I will not be making an appointment. I am not accusing this Doctor of anything. I am suggesting that it is bizarre that I cannot get routine travel medicine from a local physician.
