After a long stressful Monday(4−11−16), I decided to stop into Matt the Miller’s Tavern for dinner. I was fortunate to find a street parking spot just outside the front door. The crowd was moderate with a constant hum of conversation and sports on the large screen tv’s. Since this was my first time here, I didn’t have any real idea of what to try. So, when my waiter read off the specials, one of those jumped out at me. I decided to go with the Haddock with Shrimp & tomato lemongrass cream sauce with kale, julienne broccoli, Brussels sprouts, cabbage and chicory. I also ordered a local craft beer Sun King Osiris Ale for the first time as well. Two great choices! I think I underestimated the quality of food to expect from a «tavern». It looked and felt like a sports bar, but this seafood dish was top notch… one of the best I have had this year! When I am paying for a meal, I really appreciate when a chef makes the entrée as visually appealing as the taste. It sets the level of expectation. This colorful plate looked better than I had hoped for and the taste did not disappoint. Everything was cooked perfectly. The tartness and the little bits of crunch worked well with the fish or on its own. All around a great meal. My only regret was that I ate it too fast and didn’t take more time to savor the flavors. I definitely plan to return and sample some of the regular fare on the menu.

Try the Shrimp and Grits — outstanding. Agree with other reviews that the prices are a little higher for essentially bar food… but it’s quality bar food. Worth it.

This used to be one of our favorite places, but lately the service has really become bad. Long wait to be served and much too long to get a beer. Have noticed the last few times and seems to get slower each time I need to remember to get my own drink at the bar next time. I say next time because really do like the food. I did not learn. Asked for a second beer but took so long that I cancelled the order. Bill was reduced, so guess they knew. However, this has happened multiple times. Hope service improves.

Sunday Brunch: have been to this spot a couple times ordering off the menus… food and service was pretty good. I visited their recently on Sunday and found that you could not order off the menu due to the Sunday brunch going on… at least until 2:30. So my party stated that we would try the buffet… even at $ 16.95 per person(of course I was paying) Coffee bar was an extra $ 2.95? the buffet quality left something to be desired… most food under the cover had been their too long or was not replenished… so went to the omelet station and asked the«head omelet engineer» to make me a couple eggs over easy… he promptly stated«we don’t do that»…all righty then? They should stick with what they do best… and its not brunch! I will be back to order off the menu

We ate here on Sunday afternoon. Food is good but the waitress was very unfriendly and my view of the kitchen with a large trash can that people were throwing food into was not very appetizing. Second bad experience with wait staff. Probably won’t be back

Had lunch at Matt’s today, and can’t tell you how disappointed we were to see that the«Asian Salad» had been taken off the menu. It is a fan favorite of our family and friends. Seemed to be replaced with a” Shrimp Chopped Salad” that was mediocre at best. The vinagrette was very bland, and the salad was simply very boring. We won’t be ordering it again. We gave it a shot. Please bring back the” Asian Salad”. WIth summer fast approaching, a variety of salads should top the list of priorities. So, so disappointed today. Hope you take customer suggestions to heart and reconsider putting it back on the menu…

When I moved to Carmel, everyone gave Matt The Miller’s this really prestigious reputation. I was really disappointed. The menu is extremely lackluster. The items are standard and pretty usual.

SHORTREVIEW: I really don’t have anything bad to say. This is a jewel of Carmel. I highly suggest making yourself a regular here. LONGREVIEW: If you’ve got the dough to spare, splurge regularly at this joint. You will not be disappointed with your food, the views, or the experience of being there. – FOOD: My grilled pork tenderloin was delicious!!! I agreed to the apple glaze and man, it was the best choice of the day. I also got to try their shrimp and grits; which was phenomenal. If you have learned nothing from my reviews, trust me that I know good things and will never steer your wrong. – SERVICE: MtM must have a pretty good training program or an hiring team with a good eye for service-oriented talent; I’ve not been disappointed by the staff yet! Don’t expect to be. But cheers to good service. Tip them well, friends! LOCATION//FACILITY: You’ve gotta love Carmel. It’s new, but looks old and stately. MtM is a corner spot with great viability and even some on-site parking. The bar is great and the seating is super comfortable. Enjoy every aspect, even the bathrooms!

This place has some of the most delicious food I’ve had in a long time! First off, Matt the Miller’s has an awesome draft list. I had a Power House Peanut Butter Porte(highly recommend it!). They have a lot of beer selections from local and other domestic breweries. They also have quite a bit of wines and mixed drinks. My family and I shared the spinach and artichoke dip. Applebee’s this ain’t. Large chunks of artichoke and spinach mixed in with creamy cheese, and topped with ooey gooey parmasan cheese. Served with multi color tortilla chips. Best s&a dip I’ve had! Chips were crunchy and hot. I had the prosciutto and fig flatbread. Ample toppings, and absolutely flavorful and delicious. I also ordered a side of white cheddar grits. Huge serving size! I tried some of my mom’s shrimp and grits. They were also superb and packed with Cajun flavor. We closed our meal with banana bread pudding. Phenomenonal. All of the food was served hot and fresh. You can tell everything is cooked to order and with fresh, quality ingredients. I docked a star because it was super loud. It is a tavern though(seems like a pretty good place to watch games on tv). Five stars for the food. Creative and large selection of food. I had a hard time deciding what to get. Ill definitely be back!

A few work friends and I went here on lunch today. I want to start this review out by saying our waitress was very friendly and all of our food was delicious. We did feel a lot of pressure to order an appetizer and dessert, but after our 2nd or 3rd no, our waitress finally caved and stopped asking. If it were just for the food Matt the Miller’s would have a 5 star rating, however it took us almost 2 hours to finish our lunch. It took 20 minutes for us to place our food order, 40 minutes for the food,(a few soups, a salad, a flatbread, and a mushroom sandwich with sweet potato fries), and 15 minutes to get our checks. That is an hour and 15 minutes of sitting, doing nothing, on our lunch break. YIKES! While my lunch group really enjoyed the food and the atmosphere, the time it takes to get in and get out, is just not practical for our lunch group. If they could have gotten us in and out in an hour we would be back for sure.

A nice cozy tavern. Four of us enjoyed a variety of happy hour food items. Pretzel sticks were a hit. One of two flatbreads were savory with figs to round out other flavors. The other was dry and unimpressive. Grilled chicken sandwich without bun was reported to be satisfying. A fair selection of wines representing each varietal, but nothing outstanding A staying within a pedestrian price point I assume. Salad & fruit plate was good. Service was quick and pleasant. I’ll come back as the tavern vibe is good.

Met a friend for lunch here yesterday and had a great time. Since we hadn’t seen each other in a long time, we sat at lunch for 3 hours and felt welcome and comfortable the whole time. The waitress was a little intense for my liking, but she was on top of refills and friendly. I had a chicken salad plate. Not my favorite flavor in chicken salad, but it was pretty good and flavorful. My friends fish & chips looked pretty amazing though! I’ll definitely have to bring my husband in for a lunch here sometime.

I love everything about MTM except for the food, which is a critical component. The ambiance, location, décor … everything is a great and a good spot to take guests in Carmel. There are a few menu items that are top notch and they all rest in the appetizer/flatbread/happy hour menu. Happy Hour items generally run around $ 5 but note that you get smaller portions of all items(so a bit tricky on whether it’s a deal or not). I’d recommend Pretzel Bites(sub the mustard for cheese) and the Tavern Chips. The Ahi flatbread is the best of that side of the menu. The watermelon jalapeño flatbread will burn your mouth off. I went for dinner recently and tried the shrimp and grits and it was 40% grits, 10% shrimp, and 50% oil, grease and fat. Disappointing because I rarely find a shrimp or a grit I don’t like. I will absolutely be back for Happy Hour!

I’d been contemplating a visit to Carmel, Indiana’s location of this 4-location mini-chain of upscale taverns for quite some time but had never managed to simultaneously be in Carmel and have time to really enjoy the experience. As a bit of fun trivia, one should know that there really was a Matt the Miller. It’s a delightful fact located on Matt the Miller’s Tavern’s website. I will admit I’m a fan of getting to know a restaurant’s history and I appreciate it when businesses put thought and feeling into their web presence. Inspired by an original location in Ireland, Matt the Miller’s Tavern has three locations in Ohio including, you guessed it, Dublin, and one in Carmel. The Carmel location is located in the City Center area and is an easy walk, or in my case roll, from the nearby Center for the Performing Arts. While Matt the Miller’s Tavern advertises itself as an upscale tavern, and it’s certainly no Applebee’s, you can rest easy knowing that it’s upscale with more mid-scale prices. As I’d parked over in the Center for Performing Arts’s parking garage, I’m not 100% certain on the situation in terms of accessibility and parking, though I would note they offer free valet service and this ups the accessibility. I do know Carmel takes accessibility seriously, though I’ve been known to express my concerns about the ill-thought out Palladium. Matt the Miller’s had a couple semi-heavy front doors, though I maneuvered them fairly easily. As you enter, you arrive at a hosting area. As I entered, there was no one there and it did take a couple minutes for someone to arrive — one person passed me without acknowledgment and this is always a pet peeve. If you see someone waiting, acknowledge them. Fortunately, the hostess arrived and things were back on track. I was escorted to a relatively secluded 4-top that was surrounded by a handful of other tables. You immediately notice that Matt the Miller’s has an intimate, pub-like feeling to it with warm woods and smaller, more intimate sections that allow you to enjoy a meal without going on sensory overload. It’s busy, but it doesn’t «feel» busy. It’s communal, but it doesn’t feel overwhelming. Matt the Miller’s is known for their burger, and I love burgers, but I was in the mood for something different. I ordered my usual unsweetened iced tea along with Tavern Fish & Chips that comes with fries and cole slaw. The fish is noted as being from Smithwick’s. I will assume this is meant to be a selling point, though I will admit it meant nothing to me. The entire meal came in at just shy of $ 20 without a tip. Yeah, it’s a splurge for a guy like me but not an unreasonable one. I will also admit that I expected it to be a bit higher. There are less expensive meals, though you’re easily looking at a mid-range pricing here. If you add in alcohol, it can easily become a bit pricier but I found myself thinking this would be a terrific date place. The fish is beer-battered Atlantic cod. You get three decently sized pieces. They are well prepared and taste fresh, though I’d likely put them in the mid-range of my fish & chips experiences. The fries are lightly seasoned fries that complement the meal nicely, though I wasn’t blown away by them. The cole slaw was fresh, though a tad heavy on the vinegar for me. I didn’t finish the cole slaw. Monika was my server. She was friendly, attentive, and kept the iced tea coming without my having to ask. She checked in regularly, though not intrusively. I was reading a magazine and she never gave a hint of «Can we turn the table over now?» As someone in a wheelchair who dines alone, I sometimes get awkward service. I also don’t tend to go upscale that often, but I was impressed that Monika was friendly and welcoming without any patronizing due to the chair. Matt the Miller’s can get busy, I was there in the late afternoon/early evening time range and missed the rush, but my sense was they work efficiently yet comfortably. The atmosphere is warm and winning, while the food is quality pub fare ranging from appetizers to burgers to a variety of other meals/sandwiches plus a full bar. They offer a room that is a little more private, yet the way everything is arranged it’s pretty easy to have both a sense of community and an intimate dinner. As I regularly review nearby stage productions, I’m comfortable saying that Matt the Miller’s has been added to my list of pre-show dining options. They do offer carry-out and offer options for those who are gluten sensitive.

We came in on a busy Saturday night for a going away dinner a bit last minute, and were seated in the bar. The atmosphere was very busy and lively, but in a good way. Despite the our large group, our service was over all very good and attentive. We ordered a couple rounds of pretzel bites to share as an appetizer, and everything loved them and the dip they came with. I ordered a glass of Pinot Noir(wine menu by the glass is small but covers all the bases), and it was top notch. I paired that with a burger and fries, which satisfied my bar food craving. The burger was delicious and cooked exactly how I ordered it, and the fries did not disappoint. The entire table was happy with their orders(ranging from salads to entrees). I would like to come back to check out their Sunday brunch offerings.

My water aerobics like to go out for dinner about every month and one of our usual places is Matt the Miller’s. There are usually 14 – 20 of us and we always manage to get in on a weeknight with just a few days call ahead. They have a room that is kind of off to the side we like to try to get. Then we can be as loud as we want. Wednesdays was half price bottles of wine! Pretty much everyone a the table got their own bottle. It was cheaper than by the glass. Our waitress really kept up with everyone really well. We’ve never had bad service. I like to get the combo and get Matt’s salad which has spiced walnuts and dried apricots! I also love the flatbreads and you get half of one of those as well. I like the Figs and Prosciutto, but keep wanting to try the Ahi tuna one. We used to really enjoy their brunch, but we haven’t been in awhile. I keep thinking we should go again since we used to really enjoy it. They have a few street spaces, but there is a large parking garage as well as valet.

Still 5 stars even though the omelet was horrible. Under cooked and the ham used was awful. Rest of the buffet was super. Lots of crisp bacon, scrambled eggs, waffles and syrup, potatoes ect. Even got 5 $ off for Unilocal check in. Our server was friendly and our coke was never empty.

Dined at Matt the Miller’s a couple nights ago and had great service, a generous pouring of wine, and an excellent gluten free meal. The only down side is how loud the restaurant gets. If you are looking for a quiet dining spot during peak dining hours, this is not the place to go. Great energy though!!!

I stumbled up on the fact that they serve a brunch buffet on Sundays and had to go check it out. It was my first time there and for some reason, based mainly on the name, I had this pegged as another brew pub. No, this place is fancy… elegant in a way. The brunch buffet was excellent, including such things as an omelet station and a waffle station. But not only breakfast food such as bacon, eggs, potatoes, cinnamon rolls and such were offered. There were various flatbreads, ham, a lot of stuff I forgot because then the line up of desserts caught my eye and nothing else mattered anymore. Delectable little bites of ooey gooey sweetness… I had something resembling a brownie cheesecake with caramel drizzle and because I could not stop at just one, I also had something reminding me of an apple pie with crumb topping and also caramel drizzle. I do recall there was even a station with kid friendly food such as chicken fngers and mac’n cheese. Everything I ate was really well prepared high quality foods and the servied was simply ipecable. Best service I had in a long time, and I go out a lot.

What a great group experience! We had a party of 14 and they were very accommodating and attentive. They were able to seat us in a partially closed off area so we could chat freely and open shower gifts. Several coctails were tastetested and all were found to be quality artwork. The Berry Tea(contains no actual tea) was fantastic. Contained rasberry vodka, blueberry vodka, blue caracco, and sweet and sour mix. Definately only needed one! Several dishes were tried but we all decided the 6 oz filet was perfection. There is a choice to add herb butter, onions, or gorgonzolla cheese to the filet. The cheese was a fantastic choice. There are several sides to choose from. The veggie mix was done to perfection. The scalloped potatoes were also raved about. The filet + side = $ 23. Darn good price for a darn good meal! Would definately come back. They have an excellent patio option when the weather gets a little warmer. Would like to also try the sunday buffet sometime. They get my vote!
