This was my favorite restaurant in Carmel. I am very sad to see it closed. PLEASE reopen elsewhere. You are a Carmel tradition.

I wanted to like this place. I wanted to be able to write a rave review On the ravioli, the linguine, the beef carpaccio! Alas, I cannot, because after being seated, my dining companions and I sat for 15 minutes waiting for someone to acknowledge us. No water, no «Hello, I’ll be right with you,» nothing. Nothing! I’m a pretty patient person, and I waited tables in my youth, so I can understand that waitresses sometimes get slammed. But there were two other tables filled in the restaurant: our immediate neighbor was a mother and two young kids finishing up their meals, and two tables down from us Was an older couple that came in after us and had salads in front of them before we left. The entire waitstaff, and what I assumed to be a manager, were standing around doing mostly nothing, yet no one ever bothered to even greet us, while we were clearly and blatantly looking around like we needed something. What sealed it for me was our exit. The bartender saw us get up to leave and asked us why, as he had recently seen us come in to be seated. When I explained the situation, he simply said, «Oh.» Oh? He made no attempt to stop us, find our waitress, apologize or offer that we speak to a manager. Poor service all around.

I came here for dinner with a opentable reservation, which was convenient because I was running late and I was able to push it back to a later time on my iphone. The parking for Piatti’s was very easy because it’s a little off from the main street where most of the other restaurants are. They were very nice and seated us right away when we got there. They served a delicious warm bread with an amazing sauce with lots of garlic. I really enjoyed it, and I love places that take the effort to serve warm bread. Unfortunately I was really full from eating throughout the afternoon and I didn’t have much of an appetite and I only ordered a bowl of the soup of the day. Our server Kate probably thought I was a little odd for not ordering any real food, but she was very nice about it and said«Oh yea, it’s very cold outside so you definitely need some warm soup.» When the soup came, it looked a little unappetizing, but it turned out to be very good! It was a mushroom soup with broccoli that had rich mushroom flavor which I love. My friend had a full order of the Strozzapretti pasta, which was very simple but flavorful. It was also an interesting pasta shape that I’ve never seen before so I uploaded a photo, but I don’t think you can tell in the photo. The food was good, and I would like to try out more of their dishes, but I don’t think I would necessarily go back to it the next time I’m in Carmel just because there’s so many other good restaurants around.

We had dinner here and it delivered in quality and environment. We reserved a table online which was super easy but probably not nessesary. As soon as we sat down they had hot bread and a great oil/balsamic vinegar/garlic/parsley dip. Yum! We had a great beet salad and had the saffron pasta with shrimp and a rustica pizza. The pasta was wonderful but the pizza was way too oily. A bit too much cheese and not enough veggies. Dessert was tiramisu and the bitter chocolate cake. YUM!!! Overall I recommend as it was quality and not too overpriced for Carmel.

Carmel has soo many great places to eat, so choosing a chain restaurant was a risk, yet it paid off. We enjoyed a cozy table, a server who made some great suggestions, and a yummy house chardonnay that didn’t break the bank. The calamari was the biggest hit, fresh, and super delicious sauce. Skipped the gelato this time, but will return for another round soon.

Yum yum yum! My bf took me on a surprise trip down to Carmel and found this gem for us to have dinner at. Delightful little place around the corner from our b&b and we had dinner there on a Friday night at 8:30 pm, which is definitely on the late side for Carmel residents… so by the time we left around 10:30, we were probably one of the last couples in the whole place… Atmosphere: cozy and welcoming. Lots of tables for 2 and 4 with some round tables for larger groups. Also there is a bar area which looked pretty nice. Service: very good! Our server’s name was Katie she was really friendly and offered us good suggestions on the menu when we requested them. Wine: we actually brought our own bottle — corkage fee is $ 20. Food: yes!!! They served the warm bread before we ordered with a delicious olive oil/herb mix. Two antipasti dishes: gamberi(pancetta wrapped shrimp — holy cow, amazing!) and artichoke with some amazing fried bits of something inside… melts in your mouth(was a special since I don’t see it on the menu online). Salad – half size: Barbabietola(beets and arugula — yummm). Entrees: risotto – half size(pretty good but I prefer my risotto a tad mushy instead) and veal piccata(apparently good by my bf’s standards — i’m not a veal piccata person). Desserts: tiramusu(melts in your mouth) and Ciccolata(warm chocolate cake… excellent)! Price: very reasonable for a nice meal with lots of food — $ 120 for 2 people. I would LOVE to go back here and try more of the appetizers and salads, frankly. They all looked so darn good — I hate that we had to choose only a couple! I would also try the Papparadelle as it came highly recommended by our waitress. And the half order of pasta was the perfect size!

A real case of blind faith went into our choice to eat here for a nice weekend away from the world. Walked by, looked interesting, had never been there before even when I lived in Carmel. Why not. Our meal started out with carpaccio, served with fresh spinach, capers and a cheese that had the texture of parmesean but was something else. Very good, incredibly thin, and thankfully not an appetizer that the management has the guts to charge $ 14 for. I really can’t stand that, so bravo for not gouging us up-front. Moving along to our entrees, my wife had a pasta dish with a meatball-fusion of chicken, prosciutto and sage.(Decided to sneak a bite, wonderful!) And my veal picatta was brightly flavored and presented with greens and mashed potatoes. Paired with half-bottle of zin, and finished with a big piece or tiramisu, we were satiated and pleasantly suprised with what Piatti had to offer. Service was a little slow, but not bad for the busy night. A lucky find going on my list for the future.

I was not expecting a very good meal. We had parked nearby. We were very hungry and the place was a short convenient walk, the menu looked OK, so why not? Not bad at all! A very pleasant surprise. Mildly uncomfortable chairs didn’t stop us from enjoying the ambience, wait-staff or food. This is not a wildly wonderful place. It’s not incredibly special. It’s just simple and good. The food is well-prepared and fresh. Some dishes we had were very good. If you are in the neighborhood and are thinking about trying it… you should. It’s a nice place with good food. Simple.

We stopped here for dinner one night and found it to be a delightful experience. We’d been here before and knew what to expect: competent Italian fare in a pleasant atmosphere with good service. We weren’t surprised. We shared a bottle of Poppy wine, which was quite good, and between us had: zuppa del giorno, salad, clams with linguini, strozzapreti & margherita pizza, followed with a brioche, espresso & cappucino to finish the evening. All were excellent. Quite a nice, welcoming little place and I’m sure we’ll return. Chow! Ahem, excuse me, ciao!

Overall, I know I can come to Piatti and get consistent quality and service. The service and staff are friendly and the food is good. On my recent visit, I noticed some positive changes in the way they do things and new menu additions. The fireplaces are wonderful on a crisp day.

Ok there is a lot of different places to eat in Carmel by the sea. Sometimes it’s hard to get into some if it’s a busy week/weekend. So always a good standby is Piatti. I have never had a bad meal here. Been to this one here many times. It stays open late(not much does in Carmel), has an excellent bar, and very friendly staff. The fireplaces are nice too! The food is excellent and priced right. Try out the upstairs outdoor seating on a nice day!

We we went here for a family member’s birthday celebration during lunch time on a Sunday. The restaurant was hardly busy that Sunday afternoon which made it so surprising to me that the waitress couldn’t offer decent service. She was inattentive and made us wait forever to order, never offered dessert which we would have ordered if she had ever come around to check on us to even offer it, and not to mention she took forever to get us the bill after we had to ask for it! She basically left us sitting there waiting and waiting and we had already finished our meal. The pancetta sandwich and the portobella mushroom sandwiches were tasty but despite the terrible service I definitely would choose another restaurant over this one. We also decided to get dessert elsewhere because we feared having to wait another half hour for her to return with a dessert menu and the desserts. My greatest pet peeve anywhere I go is bad customer service!

Average spot, not my first choice for Italian here in Carmel. Their lunch is average(although their panini is tasty). I like their calamari, but not the sauce that comes with it. Their strozzapretti was way too salty for my taste. The wait staff and management however make the restaurant. They are courteous, refill drinks automatically and great with kids. While there last night there was this single father celebrating with his three girls. The wait staff was kid friendly. That is always a plus in my book. I agree with the other Unilocalers– I would say go to other Italian spots in the area.

Eh! We love Il Fornaio down the street. The local we were meeting for dinner wanted to come here instead. They were short on servers. I felt bad for the girl who was running her tail off around her half of the restaurant. The best way to describe this Piattis is that it is a step up from Olive Garden and 2 steps down from Il Fornaio. If you are in the mood for Italian, skip it and just book a table at Il Fornaio.

In Carmel, it feels like your constantly being the tourist. This place has some OK Italian offerings and it’s not overly touristy, but nothing to go crazy for. My mussels and cesar were good, the entre of risotto I wouldn’t recommend. My friend liked his BEEF. And the dessert was fair. I wouldn’t go out of my way, but I think it’s hard to ditch the tourists and find quality in this town.
