I used to travel 25 miles out of my way to get my hair cut.
Finally, I just checked out Unilocal and found this place after reading all the kudos.
They were right.
But let me clarify:
This is a very simple no frills place that just gives you the best cut for the price anywhere.
If you are looking for: 1) Big screen TV 2) Sports talk (or ANY talk!) 3) Soft Background Music
4) Fancy cologne, etc. 5) New Yorker magazine, Wall Street Journal or even the Police Gazette on a fancy coffee table. … THIS AIN’T THE PLACE!!!
But if you want a pretty damn good haircut for about 8 Bucks — This is the place.
Even with a generous tip, it is cheaper than what I used to pay!
I’ll give her Five Stars when she puts in a tv… lol

Joanne is very friendly and definitely gives a decent haircut. She uses scissors and has thinning blades so she doesn’t just stick to conventional clippers. Overall, I’m always pleased. 4 stars because it’s cash only

Great haircut! Perfect blending between the beard and the top of the head. If you live in Carmichael or nearby area this is the place to go.

I was new in town and looked to Unilocal for a good place to get a military haircut. I went into Jonanne’s and asked for a high and tight, the daughter worked on me for about 25-​minutes and the mother cleaned up the fade. Great job, a little slow but they were both very professional and without a doubt profectionists. Current price for an adult cut is $ 8.00, you can’t beat that!

A great cut at a ridiculous price ($ 7). I was in town for the weekend from Seattle and needed a quick trim. This place was half the price of my normal haircut back home and they hook it up with a nice massage at the end.

I’m a cosmetologist and i have always cut my husband and son’s hair. I am very picky with fades for my husband and even more picky with my son’s Mohawk. It takes alot of trust and confidence to have another person cut their hair. But these ladies are so nice, warm, and talented. They’re the only ones I would trust and the only barber shop we as a family would ever go to. Great job ladies!

Update: still coming here after a few years. Joanne knows me by name now and I don’t have to tell her what I want anymore. I come in, I sit down, she tells me some jokes, I sometimes fix the settings on her cell phone because she can never get them right, but the one thing she always gets right… the haircut.
In my many years coming here I don’t ever think I’ve ever caught any of the workers on a bad day… luck? No, skill.
Still crummy parking but eh… pick your battles.

Just went here tonight with my son. He needed a hair cut after his baseball practice and after seeing the reviews on here, I figured why not try it out? We got there about 5 mins before the posted closing time, so as we walked in I asked if it was too late for a cut. We were greeted with smiles and told it was no problem. Both ladies were working on hair cuts for other guys but we still had barely any wait time, maybe 7 mins tops. While we waited, another gentleman came in and they took him also, even though by then it was after closing.
My son just wanted a slightly-​more-​than-​buzzed clipper cut but they didn’t rush it. Three or four different blades were used and it looks great! My son has a funky «3 swirls» thing going on with how his hair grows on the top of his head near the back and usually it ends up sticking in every direction after he gets it cut short — BUT not this time!!! She kept it just a tiny bit longer at each swirly point and it lays down smooth and looks perfectly blended with the rest of his hair!!!
I was highly impressed by this place. It wasn’t super fancy or swanky, but I liked that. It was comfortable and they really know what they are doing. The cost was amazing too — only 7 $! Definitely will be going back! Thanks so much!!!

Best hair cut in Carmichael. No need go anywhere else.

Great ladies and amazing price. If you are running late, just give them a call and they’ll work with you. They did an awesome job on his hair last time, taking extra time to ensure everything was even and clean. Even after one visit they remembered what we talked about and they include me too! They do women’s also, but I haven’t tried them for myself. However, for men’s this is definitely the place to go! We are so happy to have found a good barber and will continue coming here

My three year old needed a haircut and I was tired of going to the «specialty» kid shops that charge and arm and a leg. Driving by doing errands, I saw this place and on a whim I decided to drop in. The big sign outside said «$ 6 For Haircuts,» so I thought why not. There were three people waiting and two in the chairs. I waited for close to thirty minutes and let me tell you, when you have an antsy toddler, that is a lifetime. But I figured we were there, just buck it up and wait.
Joanne did a fabulous job. She took her time getting the cut right, much to my sons dismay. She was very patient with him and loaded him up with candy bars at the end for a nice reward. I’ll be sending her the dentist bill! Haha!
She charges $ 7, but I left her with ten. Fabulous cut, cheap, and most important to me, no tears from the both of us.
Be prepared to wait. This place is busy and has people waiting. Worth the wait in my opinion!

This place deserves 5 stars for a cheap, good, cut.
I usually go another well known barbershop downtown if there’s going to be a special occasion but truth be told, I’ve gotten way more compliments on my hair when I’ve had it done here. They know how to fade and they use quite a few clippers and sizes to get it done.
I make sure to atleast give them a 3 $ tip they deserve it when the cut is good.

Joanne is a trip. She doesn’t rush, so your haircut will not be a 5 minute buzz. But she does a great cut, and only charges about $ 7. With tip, I figured $ 10 was still the best haircut I could have had at the price.

Been to a few similar barbers in the area at times at the expense of my hair. This was not one of those occasions.
When I arrived I expected a wait because of the good Unilocal reviews. There was a hand-​written sign «Back in 5 minute» and the door was locked. So I went next door and used the restroom at the McDonald’s…
Came back and the door was open. I sat down patiently and there was nobody else there except an older Asian gal eating in the back. She washed her hands and told me to have a seat in one of the barber chairs. She commented that whoever did my fade before did it too high. This was true (sidebar: avoid the barber in the shopping center at Watt & Whitney). She proceeded to give me a good fade and it was just as long and high as I told her. Communication is critical.
Best $ 8 plus tip haircut so far

When it’s the end of the month and I know I better start saving my pennies for my mortgage and my bills… I need to put my «usual» on the back burner because I know for a fact that I can’t afford a $ 150 cut/​color. What I can afford is some simple layers and a nice bang trim and for $ 8, you can’t beat the price!!! Seriously, check this place out… it’s simple… it’s quick… it’s cheap… but come on! I’d rather splurge my money on some good food and wine so I think it’s a fair trade off. =)

The only reason this place doesn’t get 5 stars is b/​c Joanne doesn’t do «fast» cuts. She took nearly 15 – 20 mins on mine and I get a #5 on top and # ½ on the sides!!! Even though they are asian barbers, they cut hair just like mexican barbers. She used 3 diff clips in order to give me my fade. She really did a good job, I am impressed.
She is the best barber I ever had in my life. What was even more cool was that she has a great sense of humor. She will talk shit so you better not be sensitive about your feelings. The other woman, the «bosslady» seems like she does a good job cutting hair too. They even cut black people’s hair — just thought I’d throw that out there.
I finally found a barber somewhat near where I live that I will be going to for a lifetime. And yes, they charge $ 9 instead of $ 8, but that’s really cheap.
