I only have two requirements for any Mongolian BBQ place: 1. Does it have a good variety of fresh veggies and 2., is the place clean? Because really you’re not looking for anything gourmet or fancy here.(I weep for you if you do.) You’re looking for a big bowl(mash that shit down with yer hand, put your elbow into it!!) of steamy, hot, and delicious meat and veggies, and a serious case of food coma. If the service is awesome, bonus. If not, I don’t really care! Just get out of my way so I can ladle 10 – 15 spoonfuls of various sauces onto my piled-high meat and veggies, then stare in a dreamlike trance at the cook as I wait for my bowl of spicy gloriousness! This place has cilantro and tofu included in the ingredient bins, and the establishment is simple but clean. A+

I have to give this place 5 stars because I admit, I totally love it. I was first introduced to Mongolian BBQ a few years ago when my brother took me out(to a different location) for lunch. I seem to recall the place being crowded, not too clean, and kind of seedy. The food was ok, but certainly nothing special. That was pretty much it. So a few years later when this place opened in Carmichael I wasn’t too excited. But I ended up going here one night for dinner with a friend, and became a fan. The restaurant itself is stranded in a largely deserted shopping center. You can practically watch the tumbleweeds pass by as you walk in the door. But the staff is welcoming and friendly, and the place is large, clean, and air conditioned. The booths are big and comfortable which is a nice change, and it is quiet and relaxing. You can linger over your lunch or dinner with a friend without feeling rushed. The ingredients are kept well stocked and always appear fresh. They have a nice assortment of sauces to choose from. The egg drop soup is damn good. As someone who was basically new to Mongolian BBQ, I had no idea how in the hell to make those sauces turn into something edible. But as a few other reviewers have noted, the chefs DO step in if you look puzzled or if you ask them for help in making a good sauce. Personally, I think that’s awesome, because what I get out of it is that they WANT you to have a good meal there. They WANT your food to be to your taste. They actually CARE. One of the chefs in particular is my favorite; whenever I go there I can see the care he takes in his work, and I appreciate it. Great staff, great, fresh food, low prices, nice clean restaurant. .. all those ingredients make this Mongolian BBQ pretty damn perfect.

When we first saw the sign advertising Sizzling Express my family and I were extremely excited! Finally, a Mongolian BBQ close to us! When we first moved to the area we went to White Swan on Howe but what a drive that was! Sizzling Express is on the way home!!! When it finally opened we were among the first customers! What a treat! All the things you want in Mongolian-chicken, beef, lamb and pork! Lots of great veggies — even tofu and even a great selection of sauces! With your meal you get fried or steamed rice, soup, egg roll and wonton chips with sweet and sour sauce! The atmosphere is quiet — the staff polite and attentive! The owner is always happy to see us and that in itself is a feat, he remembers who we are! But most of all the price is right! For my family of four it is about $ 35 and that is with a tip for the cook and the waitress and it is all you can eat! We have a nine year old and children under 12 or it may be 10 are $ 4.50! I recommend this place to anyone who wants a good meal that is well worth with the money they are spending! Schools back in session so we will be there often!

For any Mongolian BBQ to get better than 4 Stars, it would have to have something special. Some exotic protein or some extraordinary sauce at the least. Sizzling Express is exactly what you would want from a Mongolian BBQ. Chicken, Beef, Lamb and Pork for meat, a number of veggies and the uncommon bamboo shoot. They also have Tofu cubes which is not uncommon but I find a welcome addition. The atmosphere is clean but not elaborate which is how I prefer things. I can’t stand the over orientalized décor some places use full of bobbing nekko cats and those pictures with the shifting lights under the cheap plastic pictures of water scenes. The staff are pretty friendly and more importantly have front of house staff who speak perfect english. I will trade authenticity for understandability any day of the week. The servers deal with your drinks even though the taps are easily accessible which is kind of awkward when they aren’t getting to you as fast as you would like. I have to admit to refilling my soda twice myself. Everything here is good, nothing is great but nothing stood out as bad either. I would happily go back if i am in the area and I would recommend it to friends if they are looking for a Mongolian place in the area.

Definitely one of the better Mongolian barbecues in the area. The staff was friendly. selection of ingredients was plentiful and fresh. Sauce selection was also good including a honey water sauce instead of the usual sugar water usually seen at Mongolian BBQs. The structure and fixtures also were clean and in good repair. The only dissatisfaction I had was with the side items. The soup, fried wonton and spring rolls were somewhat plain, and the sweet sauce a bit watery. In conclusion, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good Mongolian BBQ.

I was informed that I haven’t posted a Mongolian BBQ review in a while… it brings a tear to my eye to know someone is keeping track. :) I quickly added«Mongo» on my To Do list, and sought out my next foodie adventure. Coming up to this place gave me a case of the sads, as it faced a large vast empty parking lot and shopping center ghost town. The interior is large as well — much too large for the number of people(2) dining — and made even more uncomfortable by the lack of music, allowing the only thing you hear in between crunches of egg roll being the hum of the fountain machine. I usually try to relax during my lunch break and catch up on some news through my Kindle… here, I wanted to hurry up and leave before zombies came out to eat me(I’m telling you, it was very scary quiet). The food itself was good though. Meats and veggies tasted fresh, and the egg drop soup was one of the better ones I’ve had up here in Sac. This was also the first Mongo restaurant I’ve been to where the chef decides to change your sauce mix if he deems it too blah. I saw the chef throw the contents of the customer-assembled bowl onto the grill, shake his head, and then started putting in more sauces from the sauce bar. He would casually ask the customer, «This okay? This one okay?» yet pour in different amounts of varying sauces before the customer gave an answer. This happened twice. Not sure if it’s because I was Asian or the fact I usually ladle in a gallons worth of sauces anyway, but he didn’t change mine. The good food would normally warrant a return trip, but the awkward atmosphere puts this at the bottom of my try-again list. Perhaps I came on an off day; maybe it’s different on weekends or in the evenings?

A great Mongolian BBQ for the Carmichael area. The rice and soup are ok but the service and food are otherwise exellent. Just as good as Great Wall but a lot shorter drive for people in Carmichael and less of a wait time.

Very Good and Fresh ingredients! Reminds me of a better version of Great Wall, much cleaner too! Friendly people, didn’t rush us after close. Tried this new Mongolian place late one night because Mongolian BBQ on Greenback Ln would have been closed by the time we got there. The soup and rice leave something to be desired. They don’t have thick udon noodles or peanut rolls which I missed from Greenback. It’s nice that it is close, in Carmichael!

I was pleased to see this place finally opened up. The owner was super excited to greet everyone coming in and thanked us for coming. The food was very good and essentially if it tastes bad… you messed it up. One thing I noticed instantly is that the bowl you make the the food in is switched out with a clean bowl after it is cooked. This is awesome and avoids cross contamination with raw and cooked meats. This is the only place I have seen do this. My only annoyance is there is a sign on the soda machine that says only the waitress can serve the drinks so we sat there with empty drinks through at least half of the dinner. So they lose a star for that.
