we had a bet that it wouldn’t make a year… hopefully they will sell off some of the equipment…

Ok, they are closed, so it doesn’t matter anymore. But to those of you who did low ratings out of spite — shame on you. The food was great, the staff and owners way friendly and the sides were about the size of something you should be eating — this is food, not a pig trough. I ate there at least once a week. Now its McDonald’s as the beef option. eeeek.

I agree with all the previous reviews. The sides are small, stale and dried out. My husband and I had Macaroni and Cheese & Baked Beans. Both were horrible. We each took a bite and threw them away. The sandwiches are good– BUT they are small(for the price), and Mr. Moos is ALWAYS out of chicken. We went here 3 times, and all 3 times they were out of chicken. One of the times we went, it was about an hour after it opened and they were still«out of chicken»?!? How does that work? The bread was hard 2 out of the 3 times I was there. The POSITIVE: The beef is amazing!!! I’d go back for a plain beef sandwich(I don’t like the barbeque sauce) if/when I have a taste for it.

Meh. As a southerner I was disappointed. I didn’t really expect much since we are in Redmond but I gave it a try on 2 separate occasions. They got the atmosphere down and they are nice people but the food was just meh. And the second time I went we were the only people in there at 7pm, so that says something. It is pretty pricey for a small portion. But maybe you’ll have better luck. What I would like to see is some okra on the menu.

The meat and sauces are very good here. The problems are the very weak sides, especially the potato salad and Mac and cheese. Nice sports café atmosphere with a uneven staff. Will they survive? Not much competition in area so with some smart changes, they have a chance .they were out of beans again… ouch.

Amongst small, mom and pop BBQ joints, this one is my favorite. The pulled pork is always tender, flavorful and consistent. The table sauces are the perfect blend of what anyone could need from a BBQ sauce. Mix, match and add as much as you want. And who could forget the beans? Yowzah. Best baked beans I’ve ever had, smoky and full of flavor. Perfect with just a tough of the spicy BBQ sauce. Somehow this place is always empty, but don’t let that fool you. The BBQ is for real.

Pretty boring, I do like the fact that they serve everything naked, however it all tastes pretty bland, the rub is too salty, and the sides are bad. It is still newish so I am hoping its a work in progress.

I live nearby and have been wanting to check this place out since moving to the Redmond Ridge area. I was excited to see that this restaurant was a participator on and picked up a gift certificate. I ordered the Moo Family deal, which comes with 4 meats and 4 sides. The total didn’t meet the minimum spending requirement for the gift certificate, so I added 4 cornbread. I chose 4 orders of ribs, 2 coleslaw and 2 mac n cheese. All ribs are dry(rub only) and you choose your choice of sauce(s). The ribs themselves tasted good. Nice bark/crust with good flavors. They all had a nice smoke ring, so you know the technique was spot on. Unfortunately, the ribs must have been sitting for a while or were placed under a heat lamp for quite some time because the meat fell completely off the bone. It was a little too overcooked. The coleslaw was a miss for me. It lacked any flavor to be honest. It could be possible that our batch came from the top instead of the bottom where all of the coleslaw dressing sits. The Mac N Cheese was very dry. My girlfriend liked it, but it didn’t do much for me. I like bold tasting Mac N Cheese. This was very subtle/mild. The cornbread we all agreed was very very dry. It just crumbled before you could get it into your mouth. I did like the sauces I picked out. The Habanero and Medium sauces were very good. Unfortunately, the food product itself was a miss and even though I wasn’t a fan of either side dish, I wish they would give you more for the money spent. You basically get two spoonfuls of sides and thats it. Food quality was a miss, flavors were a miss(except for the sauces) and overall value was a miss. I’m usually one to try a place again if I have a bad experience, but there wasn’t one particular item that stood out to make me want to come back.

Will not go back! The meat was flavorless and the baked beans were so salty. And the staff was not very attentive. Granted it is not a 5 star resturant, but they were more intrested on what was on tv than taking my dinner order.

This place is a funky BBQ joint They let you choose the sauce and everything has that wood taste you expect from a great BBQ place. Nice change from the local seafood.

I am a big-time BBQ snob. I lived in Texas for seven years and also am pretty competent with a smoker pit myself. With that as background, let me tell you that Mr. Moo’s is the real deal. It was quite a surprise to find BBQ this good in Redmond, never mind in a strip mall at Redmond Ridge. They don’t smoke their meats with a gas oven and wood pellets, they have a real smoker and use cherry wood logs. Additionally, they don’t slather the meat with sauce while it is smoking; it is all dry-rubbed only. I can personally recommend the brisket, pulled pork, spare ribs and baby back ribs(available weekends only). All are very good, though I think the spare ribs are a notch below the rest. Another great thing about their approach is that they leave the sauce choice totally up to the customer. They have three sauces on each table. All are vinegar based and reasonably piquant. The«Original» is a bit on the sweet side for my taste, but is still good. The Medium is perfection, especially on a pulled-pork sandwich. The sides are okay. I have nothing bad to say about them, but I think they are unremarkable. The dining area is tidy and comfortable, with several TVs… usually tuned to whatever sports can be found. The owner and his wife are great people and very interested in making sure you leave happy. The rest of the staff has struck me as a bit brain dead, however. In summary, Mr. Moo’s is great. If you like REAL barbecue, there are few places in the area that can match it.

As an out-of-towner, I have to say that when my coworkers/friends gave me the address and my trusty Garmin gps directed me, I was convinced I was heading the wrong way. But low and behold, Mr. Moo’s appeared in a strip mall. As my coworker/friend/fellow Unilocaler Tim H. mentioned, they were out of the beans and slaw. Talk about a total bummer. The brisket was fantastic, the pork okay but the ribs a little tough. So while it was an okay experience and I really liked the brisket, I’d head in there before 7 pm so they actually still had the sides.

Rule #1 in the restaurant biz: don’t run out of food. That was my unfortunate experience when going to Mr. Moo’s based on previous Unilocal reviewers. I chose this place to meet some friends and when we decided to order they were out of the compliments of BBQ: beans, coleslaw, etc. I think they basically package pre-serving sizes of sides in advance. This unfortunately sucks when you are out. I was disappointed about this. I opted for the ribs + brisket combo. The brisket was fantastic. Warning the 2 meat dinner plate is 1lb of meat. Too much for me. The ribs were not fall-of-the-bone tender but the flavor was really good. The ones I had were a bit fatty for my taste. I had macaroni salad as the side and it was meh. Tasted store-bought. Won’t get that again. Brisket — good… will get that again… maybe that’s all I’ll get. And hopefully they will have beans :-).

I stopped by Mr. Moo’s for the first time this afternoon and I will definitely be back. Ordered a ½ sandwich with pulled pork and a side of smoked BBQ beans. The pork was very good. Not too smokey but just enough to compliment the flavor of the meat. The bread tasted like it had been frozen or refrigerated at some point, but hey — this is a BBQ joint, not a bakery. I’ll be back soon to order a pound of the pork. The«medium» BBQ sauce they served the sandwich with was also very good. It definitely had a kick but not so much that the heat overpowered the flavor of the sauce. A+. I look forward to returning.

My wife and I accidently found this bbq joint. Completely amazing. The pulled pork sandwiches and the sauce, mmm. Rib tips were ok, but the sandwiches and the sides were super.

Mr Moo’s BBQ is loosely related to the award winning Teddy Bear BBQ that used to be in Duvall but is now in Monroe. They even use the Teddy Bear sauces. Very good BBQ but lacking the atmosphere of a good BBQ place. No service(counter orders only).

My wife and I tried this new restaurant this afternoon for lunch. It was very good overall and pretty much what one would expect from a quality BBQ joint. It’s nice to have another good BBQ place in Redmond other than Carolina Kitchen, and living on Union Hill, the location is great. We shared the 2lb meat sampler with 4 sides which included pulled pork, pulled beef brisket, pork spare ribs, and a half chicken. All the meats were tender and flavorful with a nice but not overpowering smoke flavor. The ribs were great and probably my favorite. The chicken was slow cooked too I believe which yielded a moist and tender meat, including the breast. The downside of this approach was skin that wasn’t particularly crispy so I mostly passed it by, but didn’t miss it too much since the meat was so good. The sauces were all good and not overly sweet which I appreciated. The sides were good but the one that stood out were the BBQ beans, great flavor and texture, slightly sweet but by no means syrupy, with a hint of smoky flavor. The garlic smashed red potatoes and cornbread were both good, but could use some fine tuning. I didn’t get a noticeable garlic flavor from the potatoes — not sure if fresh garlic is used but if not that might do the trick. The coleslaw was OK: crunchy and not too much mayo in there, but in general is bland and needs some other flavors and maybe some acidity. Where I find their menu is lacking is some kind of well-executed veggie side-dish: green beans, roasted carrots, collards — something to balance with all the meat and starch options. The dining room is comfortable if nondescript and service is walk-up ordering. They have a couple nice HDTVs and tennis was on one of them so I was right at home. Will definitely be back.
