The food was tasty but nothing special — I had an egg sandwich(«the parcle»). Even though we asked for our potatos crispy(having read here that they are uncripsy) they still came very soft and with no crisp. Service was definite 3 stars — the food took a long time to come, and a server kept coming by to fill the salt, jams, etc on the table — not sure why she didn’t wait until we were gone, because they were all decently full. Wouldn’t return with so many other options on the Lake.

I don’t get it. Locals seem to love this place. Service — above average. Breakfast food quality = below average. Corned beef hash in particular smelled awful. Cleanliness of kitchen = appalling.

I used to go here all the time when I was a kid and remember it having delicious breakfasts. So when I was in the area I thought I’d go back for lunch. I was so disappointed. Short version: awful management. Doesn’t care about customers. Long version: After waiting 36 minutes to order I ordered the veggie sandwich for $ 10 and some change. It included avocado, tomato, sprouts, jack cheese and a side of fries. I asked if I could get the normal sandwich accouterments such as lettuce onion and pickles. I was told it would cost extra so I tried to sub sprouts for lettuce and onion. I was told they would only sub the lettuce and charge me a dollar for the onion. Really? You’re going to charge me $ 10 for a sandwich and charge extra for lettuce and onion? How much do you need to nickel and dime your customers? Lettuce and onion costs nothing. That’s like charging for water(which after reading this the owner might start doing). While waiting my friend ordered a coffee and found that the creamer on the table curdled. He asked for fresh cream and was told he could only have milk. The waitress didn’t even take the creamers off the table. I have no idea how long they’ve been sitting out. When I get my sandwich the fries are cold the cheese is shredded not even sliced and there’s maybe 3 pieces of onion. If you’re charging me at least give me a sufficient amount. I mean how much do you just throw away? All said and done a mediocre sandwich and coffee came out to be $ 18. I get that it’s Tahoe but this establishment doesn’t care about its customers at all. Poor management.

Great food at great prices. The breakfast menu has everything including one of the best chicken fried steaks I’ve ever had — and you can order it a la carte! They have a huge a la carte menu and the prices are so low you can make up a great plate!

We were looking for a restaurant that could serve a real American breakfast. Saw good reviews on this place and we were not at all disappointed. Doesn’t look like anything from the outside but the food was genuinely good and not greasy for breakfast food!

We’ve tried this café for breakfast and lunch on several occasions. The food is ok, service acceptable, and location convenient so we would eat here several times a year. But today’s experience has me writing this review and nixing this place for future visits. Two words … MOLDYBREAD! The folks here have either gotten lazy or business is really suffering. Whatever the reason, they have lost our business.

On our way out of Tahoe we decided to stop for breakfast. This place has a lot of charm and is definitely a Mom and Pop shop. They had business cards at the checkout counter with the owners names on them which I thought was a nice touch. Now onto the food. I have no clue how they make them but they have some of the best breakfast potatoes I have ever had! My only suggestion is to crisp them as their style is not crispy but the flavor is so out of this world that I didn’t even miss the crispness. I have no clue what they put on them to get that flavor but would love to know the secret ingredient. I ordered an omelet but changed it to a scramble and it was also great. If you are looking for a nice laid-back breakfast in town this is your spot! However if you are in a hurry skip this spot everything moves at a slower pace here.

Really great tasting food in perfect sized portions. It is difficult to find the perfect sized portion of food… too often at a good breakfast diner you are served platter sized plates overloaded with food OR you get a small plate with too little food and end up having several side dish plates to round out a good meal. If you haven’t experienced this problem, you haven’t fully experienced eating brunch on road trips or vacation. Great ambience with just enough mountain décor and rustic nick knacks to give you plenty to look at and enjoy without being so chock full of stuff you feel as though the owner is a hoarder or demented garage sale scavenger. Great parking. Great service. My coffee was never cold and yet they didn’t mess up the tender balance of taste by adding unnecessarily. Priced right at under $ 30 for two. Will definitely recommend to my peeps and we will return as our travels make possible.

Love this little gem of a local café, with its breakfast bar, wall of coffee cups for their regulars, friendly wait staff and free Red Vines on the way out. I got the standard 2-egg breakfast, with fried potatoes and a side of biscuits and gravy. Super yum! Eggs were ‘over medium’ done perfectly. Potatoes were cooked well and the biscuits and gravy was so good! Fluffy biscuits covered in perfectly seasoned sausage gravy makes for a happy girl ;) My fiancé opted for an omelet, Denver I believe. It had ham and cheese with avocado and sour cream on top. Whatever it was, it was delicious. He only shared one measly bite lol. Luckily he got a side of pancakes and I got a good portion of those(had to trade some of my biscuits and gravy but it was well worth it!). Super fluffy and delicious. I think I’ll be back for just a stack of those yummy pancakes in the very near future!

Here for the second time with friends and didn’t have to wait too long to get seated. Everything sounded soo good on the menu. I wanted to try something different this time and looked at the specials written on the board. CRABCAKEBENEDICT!!! Sounds amazing! I did the half order since I wasn’t in the heavy breakfast mode. OMG! It was heaven! The crispy crab cake with the poached egg and hollandaise sauce! MMMMM… This place definitely have my heart set on this dish the next time I come here! They never dissapoint me! BOMB!

There were 4 seats available at the counter– I was sitting in 1 and holding another… Leaving 2 seats– plenty of space for him. I kindly told him I was holding the seat directly next to me. That does not mean you talk to me in a rude manner. You were rude when I sat down from the get go. I give 1 star– for poor customer service and a poor response to my first review. I will never visit your café and I will definitely not recommend it to any of my friends… We are up there every weekend and I’d rather spend my money where it is deserved

Back again years later and… Still painfully mediocre. Bland potatoes, average tasting food, inconsistent service. Won’t be giving it a 3rd shot. On another note I scrolled through some recent reviews just to take a look. I think it’s amusing how every negative review(including mine) has a response from the staff that in no way is ever anything but defensive, blames the guest for their bad experience and makes them look like total jerks. I’ve been a professional chef for 10 years in fine dining and have never seen such childish and rude response from the staff to the guest. «Maybe you should specify you like crispy potatoes.» Uh. Maybe you should learn how to cook a breakfast potato there chief. «We don’t have a crystal ball»… If you can’t pace your seating, then how about don’t attempt to quote a wait time, Nostradamus? I get it. No one likes criticism. But you’re in the industry. Suck it up. And if you can’t take critiques from your guests then maybe you shouldn’t read your reviews.

This place is pretty small and fills up quickly so when we came in a party of 14, we got spilt up into two tables. I decided on the veggie omelette. Honestly, I didn’t think anything special of it; just an average everyday omelette. But the pancakes that came with it were quite impressive. They were so soft and fluffy, I couldn’t stop eating them even though I was stuffed! The side potatoes were also just average, if not a bit bland. It’s definitely a good place to stop by in North Tahoe for some good ol’ fashion breakfast. Just don’t come in expecting something extremely grand.

This place is a local favorite — I’ve heard about it from my local friends. We visited this morning, it was around 11AM and very low season for tourists, but still the place was packed. We were seated promptly, ordered, and got our food promptly. I think they run the place well. The food was OK: we ordered a veggie omelet, it came with hash brown and pancakes. It was good, but everything was a bit bland and needed a lot of salt/pepper, and the pancakes were tasty but had a chunk of butter on top. We also had a fruit bowl with yogurt, the fruits were not sweet at all, but fortunately the yogurt provided the sweetness. Overall, we liked the dining experience that it’s a happening, local spot where you see a lot of local people, and service was quick and friendly. But the food was a bit too greasy/bland for us.

The only place to go to breakfast in Tahoe. It can get busy but turnover is quick. There is plenty of seating. Service is FAST! Food hit the spot! Great American breakfast restaurant!

Went here for breakfast this morning. We were warmly greeted when we entered and promptly seated. The breakfast menu has many choices and the selection was difficult. We had a personable and patient young lady serving us and I had a few questions. Did I mention she was patient? My wife had the oatmeal and a side of yogurt. She remarked they were both very good. I ordered chicken apple sausage and eggs which came with hash browns and bread choice or pancakes. My meal was also very good. I really enjoyed the muffin which was very fresh and tasted delicious. Good food served by pleasant people. It doesn’t get much better than this. We will be back soon. Pricing seems very reasonable compared to other places in the area. Put this one on your short list for the area.

Not the best anywhere… But the best breakfast on the North Shore. Ample portions. Prices not Tahoe Crazy. Some booze if nursing one from last night. Order for two feeds more than that. Line move pretty fast. Cuts out needs for lunch and maybe dinner important if haven’t won the lotto yet. Milk shakes!

Love this place. Hubby had The Usual — a hamburger with cheese and options of additions available. He chose the soup, clam chowder as his side. The meat was fresh, not frozen. He said it was«delish». I had the chicken salad on crispy fresh greens with sprouts, avocado, and tomato. Chose the fat free honey mustard dressing on the side. The chicken salad is well seasoned and yummy with raisins and water chestnuts for a crunch. It is served with oh so good garlic cheese toast. I could only finish half so the rest is going home to add to the supper. This is a great place for breakfast, too. Lots to choose from. I can’t believe I haven’t reviewed The Old Post Office before. We love the local ambiance, the homey service. On the counter there are red vine candy for you and dog treats for your fur friend.

I was in town for a get together and one of the locals recommended this place — great choice! I love me a good, local mom & pop restaurant and this place is just that. The service was excellent from start to finish. I had the crab cake benedict and it was tasty. I don’t think there was real crab in there, though. I tasted artificial crab. Anyhow, it was a great visit with a great view. I’d return when in the area.
