A fantastic find on Pleasure Island! We had pulled pork and brunswick stew along with the cole slaw, hush puppies and onion rings. The pulled pork was perfect and went just right with the cole slaw and some of the vinegar bbq sauce. The onion rings were excellent as were the hush puppies. The brunswick stew was thick and very flavorful. We will be back!

Good Carolina bbq sandwich with slaw. Fried fish was excellent. Large variety of sides to choose from. The collards and hush puppies were good. French fries were okay, but there are sides to choose from.

Classic family run takeout place. Had fried chicken, coleslaw and hush puppies. Everything was fresh, home made and well prepared.

Really enjoyed a shared meal of fried chicken, onion rings and hush puppies. The hush puppies are made to order as I watched the guy with a big contraption dropping dough into the fryer. The chicken is crispy and tender. Also got some pulled pork. Okay but way too salty. I saw some portable smokers out back but it didn’t taste like it had been smoked. Will definitely go back for the chicken though.

CASHONLY!!! Brunswick stew is great and their apple fritters are like McDonald’s apple pie. Veggies are like down home cooking. Food that will make you slap your momma.

The BBQ is really good. Not the best, but very good. All the side dishes seem pre-packaged and there is not a lot to them. I would go for the BBQ and sweet tea and not anything else. The service was very, very good and that made the whole experience delightful.

Not great meats(chopped pork and fried chicken)… very few sauces and dry meat. The sides were really nothing special. Really cheap experience. They were nice at least. :-)

I love eastern NC barbecue and would not really expect great barbecue at the beach, but, wow– just terrific eastern NC-style barbecue. My wife enjoyed the Bruswick Stew. Good fries and hushpuppies, too. I suspect the rest of their menu is good as well, but when I get barbecue this good, I don’t try anything else.

The pros — The service was friendly and quick. The menu has lots of choices. And my spouse enjoyed his burger, which we think was hand-pattied… Otherwise, everything else was edible and blah. I’m a native of NC and know good BBQ. This BBQ came from a plastic tub or a crockpot. It was not cooked on a smoker. There wasn’t one on the premises that I could see. The vinegar based sauce was 99% vinegar with little spices. The fries came from a bag. The black eyed peas from a can. The macaroni salad from a food service tub. I’m honestly surprised by other locals rave reviews of this place. Maybe I tried the wrong things, but I was not impressed.

Fantastic food. Being from California I don’t get quality barbecue very often and this place hit the spot. Not to mention the prices are good and everything is great. Not much seating so you may want to take it to go or wait around to get a table. Highly recommend you go here if you are coming from out of town!

One of my family’s favorite places to eat! BBQ is flavorful as is the chicken and shrimp. The Brunswick stew is certainly worth trying! There is a little bit of everything when it comes to vegetables… Fried okra, green beans, peas, mashed potatoes, fried zucchini and squash… just to name a few. The staff is extremely friendly, which makes coming there to eat always a pleasure! Great place!

Budget Vacationers here and we love this place. Always good home cooked style food and delicious Barbecue. When I think the beach, Barbecue doesn’t leap to the front of my mind, but there is only so much shrimp, chowder and seafood you can eat on a trip. Our normal order from here is a pint of Barbecue and a small slaw for less than 15 $ then we make sandwiches on our beach trip for a couple meals. I also like to get a tenderloin breakfast plate on Sat mornings to go and the wife a tenderloin biscuit. Why? Because they rock some pork out at A&G, that’s why. Great restaurant and super friendly owners. I wish they could clean out a broom closet for us and we would just stay there and eat da pig for vacay. :)

This wasn’t the best barbeque I have ever had, but it was definitely very good. The hush puppies and fried okra are the real deal.

Get you some good, authentic eastern NC pulled pork and sauce at this little tucked away gem on the island. They have a large selection of southern dishes that are hard to find done right elsewhere. Prices are great too!

A small place next to the laundry Matt in an obscure location on Carolina Beach that if you didn’t go with a local you would never knew it exist. The food is southern fried goodness, there is Hoge podge of everything fried such as squash, okra, chicken, and fish. The smell that wafts from this location is intoxicating it smells like heaven. The place is small and the décor is standard diner. Large portions and small prices make this places top notch. A&G’s catered my friends wedding and the food was amazing. Every time I visit Carolina Beach I also visit A&G

We went back a few nights later for the fried chicken. Heavenly. Just today we were joking about driving the 4.5 hours to the beach to get that chicken!

Traditional Eastern Carolina chopped pork in a vinegar based sauce. This is the exact model of how this type of barbecue should taste. Very nice! I ordered my plate of barbecue with hush-puppies, mashed taters, and fried squash. The barbecue… again…just right! The mush-puppies were less than crispy and lacked any real flavor… not even average hush-puppies. The mashed taters were okay… but my mom hasn’t receiver her letter… if ya know what I mean. The fried squash though… inedible…just awful. I’m not the type of guy that doesn’t finish a meal… but this side had to be tossed. The location of A&G is right along the strip and has a nice old timey charm to it. It’s pretty outdated and needs some makeup put on her… but she’s charming. Lastly, the service was nice and friendly. I’m not sure I’ve been called«Babe» that many times in a day before… but hey… I kinda liked it.
