Last week I received an exciting e-mail from Sugarloaf: Hot Doggin’ Grand Opening: Passholders Save 50%! And boy, was I excited! I love hot dogs, I love skiing, and the marriage of the two seemed almost to good to be true. When I headed over the SuperQuad on Saturday, I caught a whiff of the wonderful aroma of the hot dogs. And all morning, my thoughts were consumed with the anticipation of finally getting to try one. When it was finally time, my dining companions and I strolled over to the beach area and entered. We were given three choices of dog: natural casing, red, or turkey(I chose natural casing). Then you got to decide what you wanted on it. The name escapes me, but the dog I selected came with bacon, onion, cheese, and bbq sauce(and I added some sriracha for extra fun). I also ordered up a dog bowl of fries to share. Well, thankfully I only paid half price, because frankly, that’s all it was worth.(I know, I know it’s a ski resort…) The dogs were nothing to write home about — they were just like the franks you can pick up by the twelve pack in the grocery store, ditto for the buns. Acceptable for $ 2.50, ridiculous for the full price of $ 5.00+. The fries, however, were quite good, but they should consider offering more than one size. The dog bowl was perfect for our group of 4, but would be far too large for a smaller group. Normally, I wouldn’t review a joint I had only been to once(and on their opening weekend to boot), but I just can’t see how they could possibly improve, short of completely overhauling their product. For a quick bite to eat on the hill, BYO or grab a tasty sandwich down the the street.
