Exxon

I’m glad one of the other reviews on here had already talked about the person behind the counter who demands jokes. He has also made me marvel at his math skills when he has added up my change in his head. That would be fine, or if anything kind of endearing, if not for the time that my housemate (who is older than I am) and I walked into the Exxon one night to buy beer. Upon entering, my housemate audibly remarked that he forgot his ID, and I told him that I could buy the beer. I got to the register a few minutes later, with my housemate a good distance back, and the person behind the register told me he could not sell me alcohol unless we both had our ID. Actually, it took him about 30 seconds to tell us this. In the meantime he just stood there, smirking at me. I told him that I was the only one paying (which actually IS the law in NC) and he shrugged and said he didn’t feel like selling us alcohol tonight. I asked him why he didn’t tell us this when we walked in and heard us talking, and he shrugged again. With two other gas stations on the same street, and the Harris Teeter a five-​minute walk away, there is really no reason to patron this place. –JJ

First experience here: fella behind the counter asked me if I knew any jokes. It was midnight on a Saturday night. The only joke was me.
2 hours later, same fella behind the counter was selling a six pack to a guy at 1:58am. My friends and I slapped another six pack on the counter. Clock read 1:59am.
He refused! I guess the liquor laws are too stringent to mess up, but he had a whole minute to get us in and out.
Moral of the story: if a guy asks you for a joke, and he’s got the beer, tell the man a damn joke.
All other experiences here have been related to gas. This Exxon does the clever little trick of lowering their prices by one red cent compared to the Citgo kitty-​corner to them. Imagine how many cents you save in a whole year…

It’s an Exxon! Yay gas!
The prices are better than the BP on Jones Ferry, but about the same as the BP across the street and at Handee Hugo/​Kangaroo at the Food Lion further up 54.
Otherwise, it’s an Exxon. Yay gas!
