I just moved to Carrboro a few days ago with no furniture whatsoever, so I’ve been checking out all of the local dealers. I have to say that Oddities & Such might be my favorite so far! In terms of my personal furniture needs, I could not have had a more positive experience. I found two small stackable cabinets, each with two doors that open to reveal three shelves. They were exactly the right color wood and aside from a little bit of dust and minor scratches, they were in beautiful condition. I got both cabinets for only $ 20, an incredible price in comparison to some of the bookcases I saw on Craigslist and at other stores. The owner was very friendly and helpful. When he heard that we were new in town, he told me and my roommates lots of interesting things about the area. He also personally loaded the cabinets into my roommate’s car. As others have noted, he told us that he does not let people load items in the rain. He also said that he would accept cash or check(I paid in cash). This place is definitely worth checking out if you are looking for furniture or other home décor items!

Walking over to Looking Glass with a visiting friend, we spotted some interesting furniture pieces outside this nondescript building in an otherwise empty lot. Having just moved here, I was on the lookout for second hand, interesting pieces for my apartment. These enticed, so we stopped in. LISTEN Carrboro/ChapelHill people and visitors: this place is the undiscovered country of quality, low-priced antiques in this town. After giving up hope a few weeks ago, finding O&S was a pleasant shock. No one knows about this place. I bought a huge, solid, mahogony coffee table and an antique farm-house desk. The combined price for both of these quality wood pieces? $ 120. Too steep? The shop has a huge inventory, floor to ceiling in some parts, and a full range of prices. I’m convinced of two things: There is something here for everyone’s home, and I’m going to make it one of my new-towny ambitions(because the guy is hurting, but it’s all due to no one knowing about his shop) to promote this local business and increase traffic through his doors. If you’re in need, you’ll be happy you gave Oddities(& Such!) a chance.

I stumbled into this place on a whim after being attracted to the pile of stuff spilling off the truck that always sits outside. In the past I hadn’t even realized it was a store since the signage is so modest. After getting my ear talked off by the owner(in a good way), I walked away with several pieces of vintage furniture and an antique butter dish at a price that would make your jaw drop. The guy who runs the place is open to negotiation, if you’re into that… but honestly the prices are so much fairer than the Goodwill or PTA(and of a higher quality) there is really no need. Two things to keep in mind: This place is cash only(I’m sure the man could be persuaded to take a check), and furniture will not be moved in the rain. He won’t even let you load your own car in the rain. House rules. He’s afraid someone will fall down. This is a local business through and through. Definitely worth supporting, and if you spend the time, you’ll inevitably find something you’ll love.
