I had the occasion to recently travel to Carrolton. Other family members were already staying here. So, we booked a room in order to stay at the same location. The booking was standard and simple. I did ask about a room with two beds. I was surprised to learn they did not have any rooms with two beds available until next month. She did offer a suite instead that had a pull-out sofa. Since this was only going to be for a one night stay, I figured it was doable. Check-in is after 3 p.m. She had a little difficulty locating my reservation(maybe new?), but someone else took over and things went smoothly. The person then checking me advised me that their business is oriented for extended stay. In other words, they don’t offer any continental breakfast in the morning. The do have a pantry area that is like a mini mart with a variety of items one can purchase. The room was very nice! It was more like the size of a small, one bedroom apartment. The suite was clean and nicely laid out floor space. It has a kitchenette stocked with a variety of utensils, dishes and pots & pans. There is a small microwave, small oven top, dishwasher and cabinet size refrigerator. The table can serve both as a desk and dining area. The living room has a sofa bed, recliner and TV. Bedroom had a queen size bed, dresser, small closet and another TV. Bathroom was quite spacious with additional storage. Now, I am not one for pull-out sofa’s, but this one had a mattress that was quite comfortable. I was pleasantly surprised. The room is suppose to have free Wi-Fi. It never really worked for me. You’re suppose to be able to enter your specific code, but I suspect with my being a one night stay that my code never really was set up. Candlewood has a number of amenities, such as laundromat, exercise room with free weights, cable machine & treadmill, as well as swimming pool. If I was staying for an extended period of time, this would have a lot of the comforts for living away from home. I tried to use the cupboard pantry in the morning. Most prices are easy to note, but there were some that were not posted. There were no slips for filling out what I wanted to purchase. Your other option is to drop cash into a box on an honor system. Since I only had larger bills, I ended up going to the front desk for assistance and charged to the room. That did seem to throw the morning person off balance when I did that, but they did help me out. Candlewood is not as well suited for those on more shorter stays, but it is a really nice facility. Staff were friendly and helpful, but each time I asked questions they seemed a little unprepared. Price is a bit more expensive than what I would have paid at another local hotel, probably because this facility is designed more for longer term stays.
