Pegasus News announced Cobb Switch CLOSED on Monday… but may reopen somewhere else. Don’t know why; reviews(including mine) were dismal. Sorry they couldn’t work out all the kinks. :(

I wanted this BBQ to be good; I promise I did! I have no idea why I did consult Unilocal before I ate here. It just missed the mark. I had chicken and brisket; both meats were tender and a bit under seasoned. There was plenty of salt but no other flavors and I tasted very little smokey-ness. I chose potato salad and LBJ salad(tomato, cucumber and red onion) as my sides. The potato salad was not the worst I’ve ever eaten and the LBJ salad was terrible underdressed. After I ate the food, I was wishing that the Dickey’s across the highway was opened again. That is a pretty big statement considering I don’t like Dickey’s but at least their chicken is seasoned.

Service — 4 Stars Food — 2 Stars BBQ Sauce — 0 Stars I’ve just eaten the WORST barbecue sauce i ever ate in my entire life! You heard it — –I said it – It’s true! It tasted like tomato paste from a can. Terrible is too weak a word to describe it. Whatever you do, don’t ask them to put it on your meat. If you must try it(and only a food-masochist would) then ask for it on the side. If you can get past that small problem, I guess there is some good to be had at this restaurant. The service was especially nice. We even had someone come by to fill up our water glasses. No one’s ever done that at any other BBQ joint I know of. The meat that wasn’t destroyed by the nasty BBQ sauce, the brisket tasted OK and the ribs were rather tasty, but neither had any real smoky flavor, which I consider essential in my BBQ. The baked beans were a pretty good version and the potato casserole was interesting with its crust of cheese on top of mashed potatoes with some spices thrown in. The roll was just a roll. The two meat plate was $ 8.99. The short and sweet of it is there are better BBQ joints all over Texas, the Metroplex and Dallas, a good thing to know before you go.

Probably one of the worst BBQ places I’ve been to. We have better BBQ at Sugarhouse BBQ in Salt Lake City, UT. The brisket was burnt, the BBQ baked beans looked and tasted like pork-n-beans from a can and they have the worst potato salad we’ve ever had.

I went into Cobb Switch a long time ago. After walking in, I walked directly out. I will rarely eat at a restaurant that is completely empty. After driving by and seeing this place packed with customers I decided to stop in. The BBQ here is okay. It pales in comparison to Euless’ Main Street BBQ. The sausage was good. The brisket wasn’t tasty enough for me to even finish it. They ask if you want BBQ sauce on the meat or on the side. I thought the sauce was too watery to be really flavorful. The shining star on the Cobb Switch menu is the baked potato casserole. Everything else was palatable but not fabulous. No one behind the line speaks very good English. I was trying to ask a couple questions and it just wasn’t happening. I didn’t really notice any smoke smell but generally cigarettes don’t bother me unless there is absolutely no ventilation. With all the good BBQ in the Dallas area, I can’t say that I’ll be returning to Cobb Switch. There is too much competition to eat a mediocre sausage sandwich. However, there is a bar in the restaurant that is open until 2am. With the lack of good bars in Carrollton, I may slip in to have a cold beer.

It didn’t bode well when I discovered that Cobb Switch BBQ occupied the space vacated by another barbecue restaurant. I felt the same concern for the future of that restaurant as much as I felt for Cobb Switch when I walked in on a quiet Tuesday evening after 7pm. I expected a bigger crowd since Cobb Switch is the lone Anglo destination(aside from IHOP) on the corner of Old Denton that is quickly being encroached upon by Asian strip malls and eateries. But what I suspected to be mediocre barbecue turned out to be just that. I took home the dynamic duo of Texas barbecue meats: brisket and ribs in a two-meat dinner box. The counter staff was courteous and accommodating, even pleased to hear that I wanted crust on my brisket. However, when asked if I wanted barbecue sauce, I made the mistake of answering yes, not realizing they meant to ladle it over my meats.(I realized this too late when I opened my dinner after arriving home.) The counter appeared well stocked with sides that appeared freshly made and inviting; I chose the potato casserole and skillet corn. There’s something about a barbecue establishment that ought to reek of smoke… sadly I detected none of that, in either the restaurant or the food. I suppose if the sauce hadn’t drowned the meat I might have detected more flavors, but I had already decided that I disagreed with their tomato sauce even more. Yes, I said tomato sauce. and it was more tomatoey than any barbecue sauce I had ever tasted. I considered it a crime to have doused the meat with it. Tender and moist though the brisket or the ribs may have been, I can’t be sure of blaming the cooking method or the sauce. Either way, neither the meats nor the sauce could rise to the occasion and overturn what had become a disappointing and ultimately forgettable experience.(And where was the crusty brisket I ordered?) Too bad, I rather enjoyed their buttery spicy skillet corn and their potato casserole. Their dinner roll wasn’t half bad either. But if I went just by meat alone-since this is the restaurant’s driving force-then I’m not persuaded to revisit Cobb Switch again. Maybe if they reformulated the sauce, I’d give it a try again.

I sampled the brisket, ribs and fried pie today around 3:00PM. Brisket was moist and tender, but had only a faint smoke note. Ribs were just past done and into slightly mushy territory, with a bark that« Unilocaled» too loudly of their BBQ sauce, which isn’t that outstanding. The fried pie tasted entirely too much like Crisco, but had promise with an otherwise flaky crust. The moisture and texture of the brisket rescued them from a 2 star rating on this visit.
