I bad Doc do a ton of work on a handgun including sight installation and a trigger job. The total was 1⁄3 of what I expected and drastically cheaper than I’ve seen advertised elsewhere. Work performed was quality. I wanted to get the work done locally, and Doc delivered. My only complaint is that I was originally told the work would take a couple of weeks. This turned into about 5, but status calls were answered courteously. Overall, pleased and plan to revisit if I need any more work done.

I had him repair an old colt 1911. He totally reworked it & it fires like I think it did when new(1942). The only«problem» is that he didn’t want to give the gun back, he enjoyed showing it off, as it was stamped«property of the us army, manufactured by the singer sewing machine co.» That’s been 15 years ago, still have the gun & it still fires great.

Why did Chad C give Doc’s 4 stars while Roman T gave it 1 star?! Why the contrast?! Here’s why, Doc is not a businessman. He is a hobbyist. He does what is interesting and fun to him. He does what he feel like doing. If he feels like you have a neat gun he wants to sell or repair, then jackpot! You’ll score the highest quality work for prices from several decades ago. However, if you give him something not so fun to do, he’ll tell you where you can stick it! Really! Here’s what happened to me. I went there to order a very rare gun. All the other gun shops in town refused to take delivery of this gun because they were afraid of the liability. Doc charged more than most other FFL’s, but he was willing to take delivery of this very special piece for me(FFL fee was $ 40). Another time, I took something in for him to repair. He said that it would be very expensive to repair it but it is a simple repair and he showed me how to do it myself. I went home and spend 30 minutes doing it myself and didn’t have to spend a dime on a repair bill. Doc saved me a couple of C notes! I was so grateful for his previous services that I wanted to buy some reloading supplies from him even though he was 10 to 20 percent overpriced compared to Cabela’s. I wanted to buy stuff from him at inflated prices as a «thank you.» He ran out of stock so I asked him when he would get it in. He stated a date next week. The next week, I called him about it and he said that he didn’t have any stock come in, so I asked him when he would get it in. He stated another date the next week. The next week on that date, I called him and asked him if he had it in stock. He then YELLED at me and said that I was stressing him out by calling all the time!!! After getting cussed out, I will never go back again. He does offer great service at a low price, but this is NOT a business but a hobby. If you stress him out or have a job that’s no fun for him, he will ignore you like he did Roman T or even cuss you out! There are 3 guys that work there; two old goats(including Doc) and a young guy. The young guy is nice. Doc is no-nonsense but helpful. The other old coot is downright mean. He was the one who cussed me out on the phone!

I was looking for a place to sell my Dad’s 1970s Beretta. I tried several pawn shops and even more gun stores before stopping at Doc’s. I’ve driven by Docs literally hundreds of times. It looks like a dilapidated shack off of Keller Springs /Whitlock. Surely it was run by crazy people, I thought. Maybe the home base for the Carrollton militia. None of this turned out to be true. You might have realized from other reviews that I’m in my early 20s and my age alone tends to get a total lack of respect from business owners. I had already been ignored, mistreated, and lied to by several other gun buyers today, so I expected the same at Docs. It was quite a surprise that I was treated with respect and integrity here. He bought my gun for a fair price(higher than any other shop offered) and paid me in cash. I heard several other transactions occur while I was waiting around including a man coming in to get his revolver repaired. The turnaround time was quoted at 10 weeks. Ouch! Doc then explained that he has a backlog of over 100 guns to repair. People have realized that he «doesn’t f*cking rip people off,» so he’s become quite popular. Well maybe he should start…
