I visited on 1⁄22 during the midst of the snow fall. Decided smoky BBQ was a good way to warm myself and my 3 year old before becoming stuck in the house for a few days. The interior is absolutely adorable; the walls have framed newspapers articles of the business and on the windowsills are at least two dozen porcelain, metal, and glass decorated pigs. This restaurant is counter service where you order your food up front, get your own drink and pick your own seat. A bonus for me is that the restaurant is very child friendly in both service and accommodations. There is a large variety of coloring books to choose from, a kids menu with chicken tenders, and quarter vending machines, one of course filled with little pig trinkets. The bathroom was clean and well stocked. I got the BBQ Sample Platter to share with my son which comes with 4oz BBQ(you can get VA/NC or naked), a rack of ribs covered in sauce(or naked), 2 sides and a corn bread muffin. The cost with a drink for this meal was a few cent under $ 20. It is a bit steep for a single plate of food, drinks are not included in the meal price. One negative thing I noticed is the price list on the board isn’t the same as the prices rang on the register. My favorite part of the BBQ experience is choosing and mixing my own sauce. They have a sauce counter with cups where you can pick and choose which sauce you want. I highly recommend ordering naked BBQ and ribs if you really want to experience the variety of the sauces. My absolute favorite is Mark’s sauce, which is a very spicy. Heaven in a bottle. Corn muffins were moist and done well. You can order sweet/special corn muffins that are fried and sprinkled with powdered sugar. The fries are standard but you can get them special with cheese and bacon. The mac and cheese was alright, my son ate it as I’m not a big fan of the dish in general so I can’t give an honest review of it. The pork BBQ was shredded and cooked well. the ribs fell off the bone, very good. The service was good, as well. The person working the counter brought the food to us, brought over a coloring book, took away the dirty dishes quickly and was very personable. There are a few BBQ places in Carrollton but of them all this is the restaurant I would recommend to others to try.

Ate here for the first time a couple days ago and definitely going back today ! The barbecue, the sides, all just taste amazing together. I was not disappointed at all. I ordered the NCBBQ with fries and baked beans and hubby got the same with collards instead. He frequents this restaurant so he was very much looking forward to it. Great, great food.

This place never fails to deliver. Very good barbecue, fair prices, great staff. I’ve only had their Carolina BBQ, why try anything else? Good sides, i.e. cornbread, hushpuppies etc. Big portions.

Not a fan. I never see anyone there. I have no clue how they stay open. Food was mediocre at best.

Went here for dinner a week ago with the family. The food portion was big and selection was great. They had a variety of side dishes including onion rings, sweet potato fries, red potato salad, coleslaw etc. The prices are moderate. Free refills on drink. Interior décor was cute and southern like. However, my major complaint is that their AC unit is not designed to cool the restaurant and its kitchen. While we were eating there, the AC unit was running non-stop and I almost passed out from all the sweat and heat. We approached the staff and they were aware of the situation but unfortunately they said that the unit is not meant to handle kitchen heat. Outside it was over 90 degrees and inside was just about the same. So, next time we go, we are going to dine OUTSIDE, in the HEAT because OUTSIDE was cooler than the inside. :( That would be my only turn off is the inconvenience of dining comfortably. Which is why I rated it 3 stars. If they fix the AC unit, then I would attempt to go again.

When we first ordered from here the food was decent and convenient so we decided to order again. We love ribs so my husband got some to go and had them waiting for me when I got home from a long 13 hour shift. I was shocked when I opened the box and saw what they claimed were ribs. They were wrapped in cellophane and the smell hit me first. It smelled like dog bones. They were burnt to a crisp even through the bone. I threw them in the trash because I was too exhausted from working to even try and get more. So sad since we need more convenient food near us. Won’t be coming back unfortunately

I recently moved to Smithfield and had passed this restaurant several times. I looked at the reviews on Unilocal, and they seemed to all be positive. I went yesterday and STILL regret it. The workers were nice and helpful, but the food was really disgusting. I hate writing bad reviews, but this place was bad. I could barely look at the ribs and shredded bbq as I was eating it, thinking maybe it only looked bad. Nope. It tasted terrible. Definitely a bad choice for bbq. Sorry.

The last couple times I’ve been to VABBQ, it hasn’t been as good as I remember. The que is OK but that amazing roasted potato salad was terrible. One time the sauce tasted funny and another time the potatoes themselves were overcooked on the outside but mushy on the inside. Might give it one more try but they need to get their kitchen in order

This place is amazing! Every time I go in, there is something else to love. The staff is very friendly and will wait on you if you decide to sit down. They have these beautiful table menus and even stockings for the carrollton volunteer fire department! This place feels like home the moment you step in. I tried the ribs the other day and they were so tender and full of flavor! And the pricing is super affordable. I have a daughter and she loves to eat ribs, so she can be pricey at times but Virginia BBQ is great for families on a budget! Especially the family specials! Oh I just can’t rave enough about them! Definitely my new favorite place to be!

I ended up ordering both the Va and Nc BBQ, one with Mac and cheese and sweet potato fries and the other with Collards and French fries with fried cornbread. The BBQ was so mouth watering that I wanted more even though I was already full from how much they put on one sandwich. The Mac and cheese and sweet potato were fresh and good as well, my sister enjoyed her NCBBQ combo as well and glad I found this restaurant on Unilocal because she lives here in Smithfield and never heard of the restaurant. Another great find and I will return whenever I’m in town. The staff was really friendly and answered all my questioned with enthusiasm. After we ate the food my sister in law came over and wanted some, but we called 3 mins before 8pm and A staffer Josh answered and said if we could make it in 3 mins that he’d be happy to serve us… Lol. Maybe tomorrow Josh. Great customer service.

Eh. It’s BBQ. Nothing to shout about, and highly expensive for a «fast food» type atmosphere. Can’t compare it to anything else in Carrollton yet as I haven’t gone to the few other BBQ restaurants, but probably won’t return here either.

Great BBQ. We got the pulled pork VA style and NC style. Enjoyed both. Wonderful homemade side items, macaroni and cheese collard greens green bean baked beans corn muffins. Always too full to try their banana pudding. Great for catering your events, they always provide more than enough food.

Fabulous little find, thanks to Unilocal! We were pleasantly greeted by the owner that immediately offered up some samples because it was our first time here. We ordered the spicy pulled pork and Virginia pulled pork with cole slaw and both meals were delicious… Although the cornbread muffins that came with it were amazing!!! A must try! Will definitely be returning with the kiddos!

Okay, I wish I would have tried this place sooner! Way better food and way better prices than the other BBQ place up the street that starts with a «B»…fast and friendly service. Highly recommend this place. Try the Virginia pulled pork!

This is one of my favorite BBQ places in Virginia, but to be fair I lived in Kansas City so it’s different here. I’m not a big fan of their Virginia BBQ but I like their Carolina BBQ. Coleslaw is excellent, but the potatoes in the salad are not cooked enough for my taste. Great selection of sauces. A matter of taste I guess but some are wonderful and some, not so much.

This was my first time at Virginia BBQ. I had the Virginia-style pulled pork sandwich which was pretty good. You MUST order the fried cornbread muffins! They’re awesome! Nice place to sit down and have a meal. Great value for your meal. They participate with (at least during the time I went there)!

Great BBQ place. I have eaten here 5 times and they have yet to disappoint. The Virginia and NC style pulled pork sandwiches are a must. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The sides are great too. A combo comes with a sandwich, drink, and two sides. I recommend the collard greens, baked beans, or the cornbread muffins. There are several sauces to choose from as well. Smokey and Virginia are my favorites. Clean place to eat too.

Really good barbecue. They offer a wide range of sauces. The sides are delicious especially the potato salad and baked beans. The food is well riced.
