By far the best restaurant in Carson City. I know that doesn’t say much because Carson City really isn’t know for their food but if you were to even put this one in Reno it would compete if not beat the best there. My brother and I have always had a saying when going out to eat and that is, «you can always judge a place on their fires» because if they can’t make simply fires right then how can they do the rest. Well if I ever take my brothers to this place you better believe they will go nuts for the fritas(fries) the french chef here makes. Simply mind blowing. I went here for dinner with my fiancé, she ordered Linguini Vongole and I went with the special/famous Z Burger. Well we both were very impressed. Everything for her was balanced just right and my burger was cooked to perfection and serves with more mind blowing fries and a homemade aioli. For dessert we ordered their Crème Brulee and it was excellent as well. The only complaint I would make would be the beer I got as it was very poorly poured and nearly half the glass along with an inch or so above the glass was foam. But if that is literally the only complaint make and its really not that much of a complaint. I will absolutely come back to Z Bistro and love how the menu is changed every week.

Always fabulous! We had another fantastic meal here last night! The spicy beef stir fry with sliced skirt steak, red bell peppers, baby bok choi, pickled ginger, and chili-garlic sauce over sushi rice was to die for!!! Just amazingly awesome! Add in the spinach salad and the vin rouge and the fine friends and another near perfect evening was had. Thank you Z Family! We love you and are so thankful you’re here!

I was in town for training and we were treated to dinner at this great little restaurant our final night. There was a large group of us and every single plate around me looked amazing, not to mention all of the praises being sung. We shared an order of French fries(they called them something else like) to start and they may be the best fries I’ve ever had. I had the carrot salad to start and it was very good. For my entrée I had the rack of lamb and it was fantastic!!! Our waitress was«too much» fun… wish I could remember her name to give props but it was the lady in glasses that had no difficulty being heard :) It was just an awesome experience all the way around!

Our favorite restaurant in Carson City. Tina is a hoot and the food is right out of a bistro in Paris(including the white paper table coverings). Absolutely need to call ahead for a reservation as they are usually packed(only seat a couple of dozen diners). Weekly menu posted online(or sign up for the weekly email) which really keeps it interesting. My wife loves the Kir Royal…

Tina is the perfect hostess, and the food Gilles cooks is fantastic. Carson City is fortunate to have such an excellent restaurant that caters to all dietary needs and has such warmth and character. I recommend Z Bistro to anyone who enjoys good food, wine and company.

Food was good except for the mussels which there were a few bad ones I had to spit out. service was cold and snobbish. Coffee was terrible. I would go back for the fried chicken dish it was terrific. The crème brûlée was on point as well.

The only place in carson city for French food and it’s great. I so wish they were still open for lunch and not just dinner.

I ate here last Wednesday on the 7−15−15 and got food poisoning from the Special(Sea Bass) they had that evening. I thought the place was very nice and the waitress was great. Unfortunately, I was sick for 2 days. My boyfriend called just to give them a heads up and they asked if he wanted to speak to the manager and he said no, I just wanted you to be aware of this. They said they would have the manager call back and never did. That tells me they just don’t care. Sooooo, it is a unfortunate circumstance and we thought we found a restaurant inn town we could spend time at. Update after your first response. Are you serious? I have a witness. You had a special of sea bass. Please don’t tell me you didn’t serve Sea Bass that evening. It is a serious charge and I was hoping to be contacted and I was not. Take responsibility for what transpired. End of story.

For Carson City, 5 stars. Very healthy, well prepared, decent wine, good atmosphere. The deserts are heavenly. Been here twice now and remain impressed with the caliber of food as well as preparation. Check to make sure they are open, they take annual vacations in June and it is best to get a reservation.

Zbistro is a cosy little French restaurant with a different menu every week. My family and I have been there a few times and each time we have great service and delicious food. I love the fresh bread and butter that comes before the meal but don’t fill up because the meals are tasty and so are the desserts. My mom is French and picky but even she likes it here. It’s a little on the pricey side but I feel it’s worth it :)

Only go here if you have all day to wait for water, like to sit elbow to elbow with the people next to you. Never got to eat as they never came back to the table. Waitress never came back, just passed by and said I will be with you soon. Riiiiggggghhhhtttt.

December 31, 2014: 5:00PM Let’s start with, «Wow!» 2014 ended with one of the best meals I’ve had all year. We spontaneously decided to try to get in on New Year’s Eve early in the day, and we were able to. That was the first thing that happened. We also were blessed to have a gift certificate from a friend, and so that was a very nice thing as well. We started with the mussels and the roasted whole pear. There were very good decisions. I don’t think anybody saw me finish the sauce for the mussels with my spoon, and the pear was wrapped with prosciutto and served with gorgonzola cheese. My wife and I shared, and these two dishes were excellent. Moving on to the second courses meant that we were sharing a porchetta, a slow roasted pork belly that was served with fennel and very finely diced French fries, and the seafood Creole vol au vent, which was a puffed pastry filled with shrimp, scallops, and halibut with a white cream sauce. These were also very good. To further explain this wonderful meal you need to know that we had our wine by the glass on this night, and they only serve French wine, and so, being a bit unfamiliar with these options, we spoke with Jackie at the next table and she, being a regular, had some very helpful hints that helped us make our selections. Lea started with a glass of champagne, and we shared two glasses of red wine with the dinners. After all of this, we were full, and so I can’t comment on the desserts, but there were a few very tempting offerings to consider. To conclude, «Wow!» I had no idea there was food like this being served at the Z Bistro. It’s worth the trip off the beaten trail, but be sure to call ahead and make a reservation.

Visiting from Colorado and found this on Unilocal as #10, but it deserves a higher ranking IMHO. The restaurant is in an off-street mall but feels like a French bistro inside. Very friendly staff and a limited number of tables contributed to the calm atmosphere and neighborhood bistro feeling. The frites as a starter are very tasty– cooked in peanut oil and drizzled with a thin garlic sauce, they were fried perfectly. They had several salads that did NOT feature iceberg lettuce(good sign). I had the Hungarian stew and my wife had a chicken-fried medallions dish with a white sauce. Just. Yummy. The«stew» was a well-sauced layout of sliced beef with some carrots and new potatoes. But don’t expect to order these because the menu features change weekly depending on seasonal freshness. This place is run by a chef, not a cook. We enjoyed our meal and the whole experience.

So the wife wanted me to pick where to go for dinner and so I picked Z! What a treat our meal was! The wife enjoyed her lamb couscous and could not stop raving about her pâté mousse appetizer. I had the fall risotto which was very good! The owners have done a nice job of making the place feel like a French Bistro. Food: 5 Stars Service: 5 Stars

This one is the best restaurant, and best food that you can eat! Best food! Telling you if you will be around, you should stop by and eat. My son got pork chop and I got trout fish baked. So good… meat and fish. Then I got pear on desert… That desert is my favorite and I am sure all the deserts they make are very tasteful! One things on service. The serving person was nice but did not give us any updates on specials they had, but she stopped by at other tables(probably those people she sees a lot or I have no idea why) but not for us and I was asking my self but did not get a clear answer… Well I gave 5 stars any ways because of the food quality! They deserve it!

Z bistro is world-class French restaurant! The service is family oriented, fun, and friendly, and the food is the best I have ever tasted. Chef Gilles is a miracle worker. Their menus are changed weekly, and feature the freshest local ingredients. I highly recommend their crème brûlée for dessert, and the Cotes de Rhone wine.

I am from Chicago and very picky when it comes to great food! Found this place on Unilocal and thought I would try some French cuisine! I ordered the lamb burger medium well with sautéed onions, goat cheese, mushrooms, and some special sauce. When I took my first bite and chewed slowly, all I could think was WOW!!! This burger was very flavorful and just tasted amazing! It also came with French fries that was cooked in peanut oil. This burger was so amazing that it took me 30 minutes to eat and enjoy the burger and fries. If it wasn’t for my 6pm class it would have taken more than 30 minutes to finish my meal! Compliments to the cook and the great customer service I received!!! For being a small mom and pops restaurant, thank you for accepting all the credit cards. I will be back if I am ever up here in Carson City again!

I’ve been here for lunch 3 times and have a friend who has even gone to France with the owners, and after living in France for 6 months, this place deffinately fills my need for real french food. I’ve never been disappointed in the food. They lose a star on service. They always have the same waitress everytime i’ve been there and she is a younger woman. She’s very nice but she isnt attentive at all with requests and usually takes 2 – 3 reminding on something before she eventually brings it to our table. Which is a disappointment because I love this place, but eventually it just rubs your nerves to have to constantly deal with such unattentive service. I return for the food, not the service.
