Went here on a quick lunch break a while ago. This place was awesome. It’s nothing fancy, but the food is awesome and the old guys who owns the place was cool. Got the sliced BBQ beef sandwich and it was awesome. Very flavorful. I wish I lived closer, I would eat here all the time!

Duck was a high school friend of my Dad(BTW Class of 1952, Tulsa) and Mom. I’m sad to hear that he’s gone. The food was wonderful. We used him to cater their(my parent’s) memorial service.

I received a personal message from Bodacious that said the owner Duck died on July 12. It is sad that this has happened and my heart goes out to the family. I hope they are able to continue their business with the same passion and tradition as Duck and be able to serve the community to ensure its continued success. Duck’s illness has had him unable to run the restaurant which is unfortunate.

This joint is the real deal when it comes to BBQ in the South Bay. Ducky makes it right and the service is spot-on for an easy take-out/dine-in experience. Seems like they’re closed for a bit here, though. Expect they’ll reopen soon.

I got the lunch special. Ribs were good, serving was really small for $ 8. Overall it was good, but nothing spectacular, I think that other Unilocalers hyped up the place a bit much, thus my high expecations.

What we had: pork ribs dinner with coleslaw and potato salad($ 12.99) beef brisket sandwich with beans($ 6.99) My bf and I drove through condensed traffic to try this place based on the reviews. I really wanted to give this place high ratings. It’s a family owned business and the owner was very personable. He said that the brisket is cooked over 15 hours and the ribs are cooked with wood as opposed to gas. The pork ribs were dry. They weren’t «falling off the bones» as they are at Bludso’s. I liked the spicy bbq sauce, which I had on the side. But the ribs themselves lacked flavor. The brisket was also dry. The potato salad and beans were whatever. Coleslaw was crisp and just right.

I was in Carson for the CF Games this past weekend and what is the first thing I do? Unilocal for awesome restaurants nearby! I drove straight here and was walking in when I saw the cash only sign. ugh. I never carry cash so I had to go to the nearest bank. It was so worth it though! The barbeque sauce was amazing on the ribs. I got the 3 combo plate — ribs, chicken, and brisket; the ribs blew me out of the water! Next time I come, I am getting like 2 slab of ribs just for myself! The owner came by to ask us how the food was and started talking to us like we were old friends. I read a little article on the wall that they got some recognition for being a very, very clean restaurant – I forgot what the award was called. The owner has been cooking BBQ since he was in high school. that’s a pretty long time to perfect your art!

I have been here all of about 5 times, and every time I have been nothing but satisfied… Small place that makes everything there daily fresh. I would suggest the links… not to spicy with a great snap on the casing! Also the ribs…(photo attached is of the 2 meat plate, links and ribs). PROS: AMAZING flavor, always hot food, fun atmosphere with photos to look at, decent prices… CONS: The wait can be long on occasion, but it’s totally worth it if you want great Q! TIPS: CASHONLY!!! Also, try to get Duck’s ear, he is the owner and wow! is he fun to talk to!

Thanks Unilocalers… you did again I read the newsletter set this place as a bookmark. The place is the BOMB the food is very very tasty the place is the real deal BBQ. The outside is not much to look at. Parking lot is busy but well worth the wait. The staff(owner) will make sure your needs are met he answered all my question about his place and his cooking technique.

3.5 stars. Got the lunch special: 2 ribs, 1 hotlink, and 1 side of mac salad. It also came with a piece of wonder bread. Gotta love white bread right? Anyway, was a tad better then average but not by much. The ribs were cooked well and had a nice smokey flavor but everything was just doused with sauce. I think you run the risk of ruining it for a lot of people because of the sauce. For one, sauces are very subjective and in LA sauces are all over the place since we don’t really have a BBQ identity. The range is all over the place! Their sauce here isn’t bad but a little sweet. I tend to like and appreciate all sauces, but in moderation! I appreciate BBQ done well. I mean you take all of that time to smoke the ribs to perfection and then you douse it with BBQ sauce to take away all of the subtle flavors of the wood and smoke and make BBQ great. As far as the ribs not falling off of the bone, I love that also. But I also know that that also means its a little overdone. In competitive BBQ, ribs falling off of the bone means you lose. You need to be able to bite into the rib slightly and not have it fall off or be too rough. Their ribs here were pretty close to that perfection, pretty darn close. So I think the meat was done will and spoiled a little bit by the sauce. My two cents is: lightly sauce the rib, and give extra to sauce lovers. On the other stuff, the service is super friendly and you can tell they are honest and genuine people. Next time I go back, I’ll ask for sauce on the side.

Bodacious Q is close to work and the price seems right — Their lunch special: 2 Ribs. 1 Link. 1 Side. All for less than $ 7 It’s a good deal for the price … however, the lunch special portions are small. Small enough that I snacked twice more after lunch but before this review. As for the quality of the food — the meats and sauce are OK. I tend to like my links on the spicy side which this wasn’t. I also tend to favor ribs where the meat just slides off the bone. I don’t like gnawing on bones like dogs do. The BBQ sauce leaned towards the sweet side but it wasn’t awful. For my tastes, I would have liked it with a little more kick. The macaroni salad was OK as well — no complaints. Just portion size again. Keep in mind that this was their lunch portions. I can only assume that the dinner portions offer much more. The dining area is simple and very clean. The walls are decorated with pictures of I guess what would be considered celebs and their varous accolades and awards. I entertained myself by trying to see how many I could identify without looking at their name or autographs. As for the service, you place your order at the counter. You pick it up from the counter. If you need anything else, you go back to the counter.

I didn’t come for the service, the décor, or the ambience. I came for the meat. Sure, they’re a little raw in their attitude. They’re not rude or mean, they’re matter-of-fact. The menu is short and clear(could use a beverage list, though). The portions are par for the price, IMO — what, people think a filling portion of good barbecue should be under $ 5? A dollar more than five is a good fit for a filling lunch that doesn’t come from the drive-thru. Anyway, the important thing is that the meat is damn good! That Andrew fella might know something I don’t about their chicken, but I like my barbecue heavier and went for the chopped beef. It was terrific — not tough, not underdone, not burnt, not flavorless. Perhaps the abundance of sauce makes it a bit messy, but they have napkins and I’m not a pansy. It’s worth noting that while we were eating, the owner(«Duck,» they call him) brought us some slices of white-meat turkey and a few pork ribs to try — just for fun. The turkey was perfect and the rib meat fell right off the bone. Show-offs :) I love a place that takes pride in its work. At Bodacious Q, that pride is communicated in the plainest of language: demonstration. The place is no-frills, since the food speaks for itself.

TX/OK traditional style BBQ. I’ve only had the ribs and brisket. The meat is pretty good, it can stand up without being drenched in sauce. Moist but easy to eat, but not super moist/chew with your dentures out style. The sauce it good, a bit sweet, but they do offer a spicy option if that floats your boat. Sides are a bit plain, beans could use a bit more spice, pot salad is mayo heavy, but their slaw is damn good. It is what it is. un-pretentious, traditional bbq, in a clean family run kitchen

Let me say this: i went through an intense BBQ phase where I had to have it weekly. Shameful to admit but after all that I am officially the BBQ expert. This place used to be really good. Good BBQ sauce in just the right amount on a sliced beef sandwhich… with a side of beans or macaroni salad… man! They seemed to switch up their recipe because the beans are bad and the potato salad is even worse. They used to put enough sauce and when I ask for extra sauce it still isn’t enough. I’ve grown up on this place so I hate to give it such a low rating… but it is what it is. Bring back the bigger portions and old recipes!

I ate here for the first time today… And it will be the last… Now I’ve spent some years living in Kansas City and BBQ is something Kansas Citians don’t take lightly; and I partook in the BBQ plenty when I lived there. Do a Unilocal search and preview the top places — eaten at all of ‘em. Lived in the South, spent time in Texas, and eaten BBQ in every place at every spot I could try. But this isn’t a CV of BBQ places I’ve eaten at, I’m just trying to establish some credibility. And I have to say, «Sorry, but Bodacious Q is horrible.» I went here to lunch today and was so disappointed. The chicken was almost inedible. I read an earlier review and the reviewer stated the chicken had the consistency as if it had been boiled. This is a spot-on assessment. When I peeled the skin away and cut into the meat, the chicken thigh emitted a horrible, rotting odor. I grew up poor, however, and was bound and determined to not waste it, so I took a bite. It was disgusting. I had to make sure every bite was smothered in sauce to cover the taste of the chicken. I fought my way through my disgust and managed to finish most of the chicken. There is a glimmer of light to this otherwise morose tale, though. The sauce was pretty good. Unfortunately man cannot live on sauce alone. There has to be a quality product to pair with the sauce. Which brings me to the final course, the beans. Which had the taste and texture as if they had been dumped from a can purchased at the nearby Ralph’s. But this would be no name brand can of beans, no. No, this could only have been a generic can of beans — of the lowest quality. I had two bites and was done, the rest of the meager portion went in the trash. The total for this disaster, with a small coke: $ 6.42 cash money. What a frickin’ travesty. I could have gone to the nearest McDonald’s(and I hate McDonald’s) and stuffed my craw with better quality food for that money. The portion was pathetic for the price, especially considering the lack of quality. Why are you marking up grade F chicken 300%? I wanna know. Avoid this place, avoid it. *And it was avoided.
