Once a month I get to treat myself to something nice and spicy, a chai latte and chorizo breakfast burrito! Made by the awesome staff of Mean Bean Coffee. A chorizo burrito made with a flour tortilla, eggs, spinach, smoked gouda, and chorizo. The combination of flavors take me back to the southwest. This place is the perfect spot of a coffee date, or before a shopping trip to HT.

The Mean Bean is everything but Mean. A friendly«Hello» greeting is expressed by the entire staff upon entering this clean, well lit and cheerful store. The barista was quick and efficient in making my coffee to order. A small outdoor seating area is available.

I fell in love with this place at first cup! The owners are all personality, and the environment is perfect for parents. Our 3 yr old will quietly play with the tub of toys they provide so I can study, talk, or drink my coffee! Occasionally I have extra kids so I send our 9 yr old in to order my drink, and they always take care of her. My only complaint is they have ruined me from getting coffee from anywhere else. The coffee is so good here I haven’t been happy getting coffee from amy other shops.

A friend invited me to coffee here and because I don’t live in the whispering pines area I didn’t even know it existed. It’s a little tucked away in the new Harris Teeter shopping center so if you don’t live out that way you may not know it’s there. The coffee was great! The carry Pinescones(the local scone) which is always a big plus! They had a pretty good selection of pastries & other snacks. If you like flavored coffee they have a flavor of the day that was yummy! Great place to sit & visit with a friend!

This is the coffee shop to go to! The owners are the most wonderful people you will ever meet. They make great drinks with locally sourced coffee. The area really needed Mean Bean. I have been going there since it opened and it is now where I have met several wonderful people I consider close friends. Besides the delicious drinks they are very kid friendly(big kids too). They have toys, board games, books and a tv. The music is always good they are always happy to see you when you walk in. I have also noticed that they know many of the people by name(their drink too). And, if you get caught up or busy, they may bring you your drink to you– above and beyond service. To many more years at The Mean Bean.

The coffee beans here are locally roasted and fresh. The frappes are awesomeness. The smoothies are a fruit purée based mix, not frozen(which would be better & will actually be happening soon). This is a family & friend owned shop, with a combined 20 years experience in the coffee business. If you get something not to your taste, ask for a replacement & it’ll be fixed. It’s not weird until you make it weird. Nobody here wants you to be drinking something you don’t enjoy. There is no staff here. It’s the owners & family behind the counter. Local shops are a wonderful experience, people get to know each other & friendships are created here. This place is growing to expand the food offered, a great deal of effort is put into it and it’s a process that takes time when starting & growing a business. It’s part of the joy. It’s sad & weird to me how only the few bad reviews obviously posted by negative people trolling on this app count as «recommended» and all the rest of the 4+ star don’t count.

Coffee was horrible. Atmosphere was bland. Staff, less than informed. Don’t bother. Go to Starbucks. Tried to shop local but they suck!!!

Great place to get a quick coffee, bagel, muffin, or frappé! I almost go everyday for a frappé! Great customer service and prices. Highly recommend this coffee shop.

I stopped in this morning for a cup of Joe after shopping. The staff was very friendly(the reason for 3 stars), however the coffee was very disappointing due to the watery nature. The shop was nicely decorated but smelled like mildew. I always try to support local businesses, however I’m not sure I will give it a second chance.

Before going shopping, I stopped in and wasn’t feeling the coffee jive and ordered a smoothie. I ordered a strawberry, banana smoothie and it was disgusting! The strawberries were frozen, syrup based and there was no taste of a banana. The interior of the place, doesn’t offer much on the personality scale. The staff wasn’t very outgoing; I thought a staff member was a customer until another customer walked in and she offered to get their coffee. I was hoping to purchase something from the bakery cabinet, but after viewing the options thought I would stick with the healthy drink(wrong choice). I like to give places two tries to win my business, so I will likely try a coffee but if left to the smoothie I would skip this place.

Staff was nice, it has a relaxing atmosphere, but their iced coffee was a little watery and on the expensive side. I would still go there to grab a cup occasionally though.

Tried a ‘scone’ today. I suggest they check the recipe and construction procedure on . It was shaped like a hockey puck and was very tasteless. Scones are made by rolling dough and butter in layers with several folds to get the lighter flaky look and not by needing the dough. I wish them all the luck in the world getting this business off the ground. I’ll go back but no more scones.

I was desperate for wifi and recalled a new coffee shop opening not far from home. The staff at Mean Bean could not have been more accommodating. I watched throughout the afternoon as customers arrived ordering coffee and trying out their assortment of baked goods. Bagels from Zabars! Pleasant atmosphere, friendly staff… Stop in and welcome this new small business to our community.

This place has a friendly atmosphere, great music and excellent coffee. The staff knows customers’ names and makes every effort to remember their regulars’ favorite orders. And my advice — try the apple turnovers!
