I took my dad here for Father’s Day and to check out the Q. I always like a place that doesn’t put sauce on their bbq. That is their way of telling you the smoking/prep methods are spot on. We had chicken, brisket and pulled pork. All of which were exactly what you would expect. Chicken was a little dry but the flavor made up for it. With the brisket, I always expect TX style rub on it but they use the kind of rub you would use on pork. It gives it an unexpected flavor I liked and caught me off guard. Pulled pork was nice big chunks and smoked perfect. I didn’t care for the hushpuppies as the batter they use is not cornmeal. Slaw was perfect and make sure you get the jalapeño butter for dipping and on the cornbread. The one thing I really liked was the house bbq sauce. It is a cross between spaghetti and bbq sauce… at least that’s my take on it. The more I ate it, the more I appreciated the sweetness of the tomatoes. They only take CA$H so bring with you or use the ATM in the back.

Had chicken/pork combo plate with double slaw. Good Q with no Gristle. Small thigh and leg. Not generous quantity. Good but not great. I would try again.

My family has been eating this family’s BBQ for 4 decades, since they were in Aberdeen/Southern Pines. Great BBQ that stands the test of time. We’ve never had a bad meal at the Pik N Pig! I always get the BBQ plate. Their BBQ is always the best that I’ve ever had. I ate this BBQ as a kid back in the 70’s and 80’s and now I bring my 11 year old son here and he loves it! He’s been coming here since he was a little fellow and always loves to watch the planes fly in and out. That’s an added side show while you eat! Oh yeah, order the fried dill pickles! Dip them in ranch and Texas Pete and WOOOOWEEEE! It tastes so good that it’ll make you smack your mama!(Although my mother recently passed away and I’d give her a huge hug rather than smacking her!) BBQ this great just doesn’t stay around for 40 years«just because». It IS the epitome of NCBBQ! We’re driving in this weekend to eat there(and to visit my family, too)!

Delicious! My daughter had the pulled pork, I had the brisket. Wonderful barbecue. Wish they had corn on the cob!

Was looking forward to trying this place for a while. We called earlier today and reserved a rack of ribs. We arrived at 4:45 pm and placed an order for a combination dinner with pulled pork and brisket with green beans and baked potato. The food itself was good, nice taste to the pork and brisket nothing special though. The green beans were not good and the baked potato was average. The ribs were okay but nothing to write home about. The biggest disappointment was how long it took to get our order. We ordered at 4:50 and we didn’t get our meal until 5:50. We even saw several tables just get up and leave before there meals arrived. I wanted to really like this place but there are much better bbq places with much better service and food. We probably will not return.

The number 1 restaurant in Carthage… period. Food is incredible, service is awesome, atmosphere is off the charts. Take the whole family and enjoy. Pork bbq is competition quality. Desserts are homemade and always amazing. (Bring cash — they do have an ATM machine if you forget)

been there 10 dozen times, always fly in; staff seems tired and not friendly nor unfriendly, just blasé; impersonal, not all that welcoming! C’mon get excited when you see repeat customers! .food is always great… sort of a clogged up algorithm to get a seat, then hard to pay because they wont accept credit cards… and they’ll pile up on your bill if you ask for anything extra…

First and last trip. Wait staff was exceptionally rude, food is overpriced, and they do not take plastic… in other words, tourist trap. When we ordered, we were told they were out of meats… except for pork… and it was only an hour after opening. No chicken, no brisket. just pork. Awesome start. When questioned why… legitimate, we were told we could eat elsewhere, but after a 2 hour ride, and a 30 min wait, we went on and ordered simply 2 pork plates, and tea. 25 minutes later, we got our tea 10 or so after that, we got our plates. Meat tasted like it had liquid smoke poured over it. Hushpuppies were not done through, slaw had a strange metallic taste. Well done. You can sucker in tourists, and seem to do a fine job of that, but rest assured, after the waitstaff practically slammed my wife out of the way as we were leaving since she had stopped in the walkway out of the old converted post office area to insure she had not left her phone, you got $ 40 from me… but will never again.

I would have to argue that this is up here with the best bbq I’ve ever had. It’s always so fresh and delish! I always stop here when I’m in town and will sometimes go out of my way to eat here. It’s pretty cool to see the small 1 – 4 seater prop planes take off and land here so if the weather is nice I would suggest sitting outside. I’ve heard planes come in from all over the east coast just to eat here so you knows it’s gotta be good!

Worth the drive to…(Where the hell are we!!!) Best BBQ I’ve ever had. Brisket and pulled pork were to die for. It’s a little off the beaten path, but worth the travel. Servers have been super friendly both times I’ve been.

I always stop by here to eat when within 50 miles of this place. It’s located out in the middle of nowhere along side a small landing strip. I love the beef brisket and pulled pork. Also the hush puppies with jalapeño butter.

Stopped in on Saturday for lunch. Always like a chance for Bbq or a smack. Place was friendly. Area was clean. The food was just ok. Nothing special. No mouth watering drop dead if you don’t get moment here. Felt the portions were very small and the price was just ok.

What a great place. I’ve been here twice – over the summer I flew in, and today I took the hour-long drive from Chapel Hill. This review will be just for today, but both visits were pretty similar. The pork is the star of the show here. I got a plate of pork with applesauce, cole slaw, and hushpuppies. It’s a good amount of food for under $ 9. The food came out really quickly, although I will point out that it was warm, not hot. Anyway, the pork is fantastic. Super soft, super tasty, and they have a really good honey BBQ sauce if you like sauce on your pork. The hushpuppies are very light – so much better than the dense balls of cornmeal you get at other places. The slaw was pretty good and so was the applesauce. They were both simple but got the job done and were perfect as sides. Sometimes simple is better. My friend tried the Coca-Cola cake for dessert which he liked and I thought basically was a moist chocolate cake. The people that work here are wonderful – very sweet and Southern. It adds a lot to what already feels like an authentic barbecue place. The best part is that you can fly in, park the plane, and you’re here. You can watch small planes land throughout the day and there’s even a small«museum» just outside on the airstrip. The barbecue is great, the atmosphere is exceptional. *Cash Only*

BBQ was good, had the pulled pork, coleslaw, cornbread and potato salad. Really wanted to try their brisket but they were sold out ;((make sure you come early). Corn bread was okay. Not too dry and potato salad was decent. Service was good though! They only take cash by the way so make sure you stop by the bank or they have an atm there as well. We also had the Coca Cola cake which was too sweet for my liking, and banana pudding with nilla wafers.

Excellent, slow-cooked pulled pork. Best in the county. The brisket is also excellent. The tea is very good, but I like mine really sweet, so it may not be for everyone. The service is not speedy, because they’re usually slammed, but they’re very nice. If you’re not too stuffed, the desserts are also very tasty. The place is on a small airfield, which is kinda neat when the planes are taking off and landing, and there’s a memorial to a local boy who was killed in WW2 flying with the famous«Flying Tigers» in China. You can eat outside, but there tend to be a lot of flies in the summer. Some summer nights there’s live music. One warning: they do not take plastic, and the ATM machine inside charges your account an outrageous fee to use. Stop by the bank beforehand and get cash.

Portions are child sized. I ordered a combo plate with pulled pork and brisket. I got 3 tiny slices of brisket and a tablespoon’s worth of pork. I was like, «What is this? A meal for ants?» For the price I’ve paid, I expected significantly larger portions. I mean, it’s BBQ. Not a French gourmet restaurant. No need to skimp. It’s also cash only. Why? I don’t know. But get with the times. Many people no longer carry cash and it’ll clear up traffic in the dining area from people walking all the way to the back to pull money out of the ATM. If an ATM is around, a card paying system can be outfitted to the register. That being said, the food was actually pretty good. The vinegar based sauce is one of the better ones I’ve had. Will I come back here? Not by my own choice. I’d like a meal not made for ants.

A novel place to visit with friends and family. The staff is very accommodating and the view includes a small air strip with periodic airplane landings. The menu prices were fairly priced. My kids and I ordered the BBQ sundae. It was layered cole slaw, baked beans and bbq pork with a garnish of two hush puppies. AMAZING! This is more a western bbq taste but it is really good. The coca cola cake and banana pudding rocked! A cool place that is worth a visit!

Every time when I visit North Carolina, I like to have barbecue. If you are ever are in this area, this restaurant offers the best barbecue in the area. I had the tri tip sandwich, fried pickles and smoked wings. Everything was very tasty. The uniqueness of their smokers, wood used, flavor of the meat and the vinegar slightly spicy barbecue sauce make want to come back for more. I almost drenched my french-fries in the barbecue sauce it was amazing. What is unique about this place is the fact that is one of the fly in airports, were people with private planes can stop here for lunch. So as you indulge in a very tasty smoked sandwich you can watch the small planes landing and taking off.

Soooo amazing! Literally, best bbq I have had. I got their combo plate with chicken, pulled pork & hush puppies! Washed it all down with a sweet tea, of course. The boy got the brisket and pulled pork. All reasonably priced! Their jalapeño butter is yum also! I will be coming back here, again!
