When I’m looking for the best apartment for my buck, I focus on several key details. Of course I look at the layout, amenities, appliances, storage, noise, etc. Most importantly, however, I take a seat and really observe how the office staff engages with residents. Issues can arise anywhere you live, so I want to rest assured that if and when an issue does arise, there’s a staff and management team willing — and happy — to help me. Of course the staff at Carpenter Village was wonderful when I was touring the property, but when I saw how they treated incoming residents — with respect, warmth, understanding, and a genuine friendliness that is mostly only found in neighborhoods in small towns where neighbors have known each other for years, or decades — I knew this is where I wanted to make a new home for my family. Turns out, I was right. We moved in last fall and are looking forward to renewing our lease in a few months. The maintenance staff is timely and professional, and the leasing team always calls us by our names; my son isn’t a fan of strangers but loves going into the office! Moving to Cary — and Carpenter Village — was the best move I’ve made in a long time. As for the review above mine, I’m excited to know that the staff would try to work with me on changing a move date if need be; anywhere else I’ve lived in the past wouldn’t have even tried. Luckily, I haven’t met that neighbor, but if you’re reading this, rest assured — all of the neighbors I’ve had the pleasure of meeting(and cooking out with, which we do on Saturdays if any of you want to join!) are pleasant professionals who help make this place feel like a real community.

The residents are friendly, but the office staff is incompetent. This has bitten me in the ass both at move-in and at move-out. When I was moving in, they lost my paperwork and forgot that they had told me to talk to them close to the move in date to set a day. When I tried, repeatedly, to sign my lease and set a move-in date in advance, they said I was«too early» and they didn’t have anything together yet. Then, when I came to them the month of, they said they had an earlier move in date set in their computer, and they tried to charge me from then! Now, when I am moving out, I tried again to talk to them in advance, giving them a tentative date, and agreeing to come in again closer to the move-out time to firm things up. Well lo and behold, when I do go in at the beginning of the month to pay rent and set a move-out date, they again just«have» a date in their computer, and have already re-rented my place, without telling me, and insist I stick to their date or else pay huge penalties! Well, moving companies don’t work that way, no matter how much they wish them to. So I am angry, whoever is supposed to move into this apartment will be angry, all for no good reason whatsoever. If you have to deal with this office staff, pretend you are talking to very dim children, and don’t give them any scrap of information in advance. They will never do intelligent things with the information. ************** UPDATE: This management was so petty as to break up my daughter’s birthday party at the community pool in retaliation for this bad(but completely deserved) review. This is really scraping the bottom of the barrel. Petty and vindictive in addition to completely incompetent. Can this management team get any lower that this? I wonder if they strangle puppies in their spare time, when they aren’t trying to ruin little girls’ birthday parties. Unbelievable. ***************
