Akin to the other one-​star review. This center has some administrative issues.
We came here for some straightforward learning disability/​grade level testing.
I wish we had been spared the costly and frustrating interactions with this center, along with the loss of precious, precious time while our child continued to struggle in the classroom.
We contacted them over the summer after being told in a surprise end-​year conference that our daughter needed summer tutoring.
Three and a half months and six billed sessions later along with out of pocket ‘evaluation’ costs (which yielded no report, just a ‘there’s something there’ comment); school reports; pages upon pages of painful developmental and psychological documentation; time off work; email and phone tag because the LDC has no central scheduling… we still had no answers and no guidance.
Actually cancelled a seventh private session I’d felt ‘talked into’ and reset boundaries, saying we could meet with the counselor again about our child once we had testing results (i.e. when there was something definitive to discuss).
Once our name finally came up on the waiting list for testing, our counselor required further discussion to ‘define goals’ and without it, she said she would ‘consider our case closed,’ and remove us from the testing docket… so we would have to begin all over again. Unconscionable.
This review is the result of zero response from an escalation to the director (*case in point: 5 MONTHS LATER, responds only to this Unilocal review), whom we attempted to contact twice, regarding what we felt was the counselor overstepping and coercing; and the failure of this center to provide what we and our insurance company had contracted them for within a reasonable timeframe and cost structure.
We now know that the Homeschool Gathering Place refers out private testing evals for $ 90 or less, depending on whether it is in person or online… Various local parochial schools provide testing too with the cost of an application fee.
That is all we needed. If you feel you need something more, NC State has the most comprehensive testing available, and though it is likely out of pocket, it is evidently far more reasonably priced than the Brain Balance Center or UNC-​Chapel Hill, and they offer payment plans.

Our guess, which is all we’re left with, is that the Lucy Daniels Center may be meant for more serious psychoeducational issues.

We have yet to be seen at LD so I cannot review the clinicians. My review is on their business practices. They put up a tent at an Employee Fair to drum up business,” yes we can help you, here is my card, call us …” One month later and nothing. They might have the best clinicians in town but if they cannot accommodate the business that they recruit then they are worth nothing. They are akin to the OB that triple books each appointment slot so they always have one in the room and 2 waiting hours in the waiting room for an appointment. Are they worth the wait? I won’t wait to find out because my child is worth more.
