Sea Depot

We decided to put some fresh Salmon in our smoker and wanted a really fresh piece of fish and we found it. They even filleted a beautiful fresh Salmon while we waited. Took it home, popped it in the smoker and it was absolutely delicious. The service was excellent and they have a tremendous selection. We are going back today!

The food here was terrible! The fish and hush puppies were overcooked, the tater tots were undercooked and the cole slaw was of the cheap grocery store variety. My soft-​shell crabs were overcooked on the outside but, having been frozen, were not cooked all the way through. My husband and I were both sick to our stomachs that night and the next day.

Fresh Seafood and Fast, cooked Calabash Style or Cajun Spiced. Call in orders are best because you do not have to wait when you arrive. Select many fish and Seafood from live tanks. None fresher fish than this.

First time stopping by to pick up some fried oysters and bay scallops before heading back to the hotel. They were really fresh and I could taste/​notice the difference. It was a perfect way to end a long day at the office! Skipped the sides and the total was less than $ 10. What a steal!

My second visit in two years. I guess I wasn’t impressed then and quite numb to this visit. The smell & feel of hot food is trickery because the ‘country flounder’ was over breaded (looked like fried pork chops) & had a mushy texture inside… frozen??? I’ve had much much better! Oh and slaw… looked old.

This is my go to seafood place when I am in Cary. The seafood is cheap and delicious. I have tried their fresh seafood before but, I prefer them to cook it for me. The have a spicy breader option that taste good on everything. I love fried fish. The flounder, crocker, and trout are great and they prepare it a little hard (like I like it) upon request. The shrimp is also good but, I hope you do not have to travel far to eat it because it gets cold fast. Stay clear of the cole slaw.

I can only speak on the one order I made for lunch. A fresh seafood market that serves pre-​breaded «Frozen» Cod .I could have gone to Captains D’s for that. Maybe I should have asked if it was fresh but it should be noted that its not at a fresh seafood market. Also make sure you have cash if your order is under $ 10. If you use your debit card you will be charged a $.35 processing fee.

These guys cleaned and cooked my fish real good, that is why Im backk… I think im falling in love… If I come back, that will mean Im in love…

Best seafood around! We were able to get a bunch of fresh blue crabs at a great price! The spicy seasoning they have is top notch as well! Thanks for making our dinner delicious!

After seeing a bunch of reviews on Sea Depot I had to go check it out since man can not live by pizza and burgers alone! Sometimes seafood is the only way to go and you know how these casual seafood spots are. Not much to look at but once you get past that, you’re in for a great meal!
Sea Depot is located on the corner of Chatham and Maynard, there are lot entrances on both streets, just get as far to the corner as you can. Small, ratty storefront, inside it’s not much better. One display area full of crushed ice and a mish-​mash of equipment, sundry items and more. I had called in an order of country flounder and fried shrimp which comes to me in a styrofoam contain for $ 9.95. Walking out with my lunch, I admit I was immediate skeptical because it didn’t pass the weight test. The whole lunch package felt a bit light but we shall see!
I get home with my fried seafood haul and it looks decent. The combo seafood platter comes with tater tots, hushpuppies, a small container of slaw along with 8 or so shrimp and one fried catfish filet. The sides are decent, the shrimp is plump and tender while the catfish is a bit different coated in cornmeal. Overall a nice meal but falls a bit short of what I typically get at Saltwater Seafood and Fry Shack. Quality-​wise Sea Depot is decent but there’s less food and it costs a bit more which dings them. Saltwater seafood typically gives two pieces of fish, more for sides and they’ll normally pack butter, cocktail sauce and/​or tartar. So Sea Depot isn’t bad at all but I have to give em 3.5 stars for value and I’m rounding down. Just my first visit so we’ll see what happens for round 2!

Maybe I hit them on a bad day but we just walked in and walked out right now. I wanted some trout for dinner tonight and the trout they had on ice was definitely old. Dull scales and cloudy eyes. Guess I’ll stick with Local at the Farmers Market.

We went back for a second try, just to make sure the first time wasn’t a fluke. GREAT SERVICE, GREAT FOOD, GREAT PRICE — Two weeks apart, on different days of the week, so it’s no fluke. Sea Depot is the real deal.
And to the lady who said she couldn’t get served 5 minutes before closing — grow up. Their sign said open because they aren’t just a restaurant; they’re a store and could serve store customers for another five minutes. Have a heart, lady, as hard as these guys work, they deserved to get off work at closing time. You weren’t going to tip them anyway.

A native North Carolinian home for the holidays, I had a craving for fried seafood and hushpuppies and found Sea Depot on Unilocal.We were not disappointed. We ordered fried calamari, oysters, trout, tilapia, and, of course, three dozen hushpuppies to take to a friend’s house (there’s no seating on site). Despite the fact the food had cooled somewhat during the half hour drive to our destination, we found the food to be delicious. The fried fish was solid NC fare, the calamari was tender and not greasy, and the oysters were, frankly, amazing — we wished we had ordered more! The other thing we wished we had ordered more of were the hushpuppies. I love hushpuppies, and these rank among the best hushpuppies I’ve ever had! Unfortunately, we’re only in town a few more days, but we’re looking forward to trying the other stuff on their menu in the future. (It looks like we’ve also found a place to get fresh fish for future sushi parties at home.) Sea Depot has definitely earned a place on our short list of must-​visit food spots for our trips back to the Triangle.

Great local seafood and buying their house fried food is a great quick meal to take home. I have had better cole slaw, but the seafood is the star. The hushpuppies are tasty as well.

Sea Depot has every conceivable type of local fish caught, like, today. It doesn’t get much fresher than this, and the variety is pretty incredible. With laser-​like speed the guys behind the counter will clean and filet whatever sounds good to you, and you can race back home and to prepare it as only you can. They have a cute tagline «You Buy, We Fry» meaning they will even go so far as to batter and fry your selection while you wait, I haven’t taken them up on this but they have a loyal following judging by the line at about 4 pm.
They also sell fresh NC oysters in the shell, and Washington Oysters in pint containers that pan-​fry into a quick and delicious entrée when you can’t think of anything else to make.
