Starvation Creek State Park is situated right on Highway 30 and, if you didn’t know better, you could mistake it for merely a rest stop. In fact, we did. Our puppy needed a quick potty stop and so we swung into the roadside parking lot. Little did we know the lush oasis that was to be found just beyond the parking lot! There are no fees to enter. Simply swing your car in and park. There are two main hiking trails that can be accessed – Starvation Ridge and Mt. Defiance. We didn’t hike the full trails but did walk a bit on one and were wowed by all the green and the trickling creek under the wooden foot bridge. The part of the trail we traversed was lush, dense, and shaded. They do also have well maintained bathrooms near the parking lot and a picnic table if you’re in need of a roadside snack. Dogs are allowable on leash only(and they ask you clean up after them, of course). Happy to have happened across this state park and will definitely stop again my next time through. We were able to walk the puppy a bit, stretch our own legs, sit for a bit at the picnic table while the pup had a snack, and use the facilities. Starvation Creek State Park definitely offers so much more than your usual freeway rest stop! Get to it!
