When my husband and I first drove by this place we thought it was a bar and not very appealing but we were staying at Innisfree B&B and Clare recommended we try it. Gotta say although there is NO atmosphere, you come here for the food and the food does not disappoint. I hear the place is always busy and now I know why. I had the trout, which is what they are known for and I must say it was very very good, I had a side of whipped sweet potatoes also very yummy. With the salad and those main dishes we were too full to have desert right then so we ordered the chocolate cake to go. Glad we did!!! If you are in the area be sure to stop by.

This restaurant is right down the mountain from where we live so we see how busy it is. We tried over a year ago and thought the atmosphere was a bit lacking and expensive for what you get but the locals rave about this place so we gave it a try last week when we wanted to not drive so far to get a bite to eat. They’ve done some improvements to spruce up the place since the last time we dined there. Still not fancy… just good olé hometown is how I’d describe. My husband had the shrimp and grits and I had portabello mushroom strogonoff. The salads were v. cold and crisp. We both thought the meals were quite good… a little on expensive side for what you get. We also had the derby pie which was good. Service very attentive and friendly… helps make the place. Overall we decided we’d go back but if you were willing to drive another 6 miles you could have the ambience and great food for just a little more $ at The Orchard… just saying.

Happ’s Place is a great place to have dinner… we have enjoyed coming here for about five years and not been disappointed. It is simply very good food in a plain setting. The trout is so wonderful it took me five years to order anything besides the trout. I ordered something else recently and enjoyed it. The staff are hard working… a table for 14 gave one of the waiters a work out last time we were there… in season they should have more wait staff. enjoy!

Every time we visit I head for the trout, but there is so much more. Start with the chicken liver then try the weinerschnitzel. My wife had the pecan encrusted trout which was served hot and was a big portion.

Was recently on vacation in the Cashiers, NC area and happened onto Happ’s. This was a wonderful find! It is definitely a local favorite and while the food is definitely Southern comfort food and mostly fried, it is simply delicious. We had the fried chicken livers and fried oysters as shared appetizers. I was a little hesitant but both were delicious and not greasy. Chicken fried steak and fried chicken outstanding! The sides which come with the entrees(you get two per entrée) were just as good. Go for the tomato cheese pie, cauliflower casserole, and fried okra. Service was down right friendly and earnest. Now the venue itself looks like your ordinary diner but the food makes Happ’s a definite«go-to» place.

We go to Happ’s Place routinely as it is the closest to our mountain homes around Lake Glenville — the food is always excellent — standard fair with a twist that makes it interesting. It is comfort food on steroids. The place is small and basic, so if you are looking for atmosphere, this is not the place but for great food, good, friendly service, give Happ’s a try.

This diner needs some help, it would be a decent place to eat a home style dinner if everything Happ served wasn’t out of a frozen bag. Nothing is fresh except for the garden salad. The prices are outlandish you are better off going to Game Keepers Tavern for a meal prepared to perfection and the food worth the price.

No matter how many times we go to Happ’s, we always come out happy. If you like southern style down home good food, Happ’s is for you. We go there frequently with our friends and everyone loves it. They have a large menu in a cozy relaxed atmosphere. Reservations for only groups of five or more. It’s casual.

I asked local for a recommendation and they told me The Orchard for fine dining and Happ’s for a reasonable«go-to» restaurant. Happ’s is an upscale mountain diner — it doesnt pretend to be anything more. They have an extensive number of fresh vegetables such as mashed sweet potatoes, cauliflower casserole, fried okra, and tomatoe cheese pie(this was very good!). I ordered a vegetable plate and was pleased. My wife had the mountain trout which she said was one of the best she has had. The corkage fee for wine was a reasonable $ 2.50 per person. Service was fast, actually too much so, as we had only sipped our first taste of wine when it started coming. Service was friendly. Reasonable priced with our meal including one desert at slightly over $ 50 total for two. Definitely order the mountain trout house special and the tomatoe cheese pie(comes as a side dish with your meal).

I was pleasantly surprised by Happ’s Place — actually in Glenville, not Cashiers. It looks like a run-of-the-mill roadside eatery from the outside. The interior is small and unassuming as well, but the quality of food and service is exceptional. The fried chicken breast was awesome with a slightly crispy buttermilk batter coating and tender and juicy on the inside. The fried catfish was quite tasty too. My wife enjoyed her ribeye steak which had a great charbroiled grill flavor. I recommend the fried calamari appetizer, fresh and not at all chewy. This is a dry county but you can bring your own wine. The service was professional and prices are a good value. Our bill came to just under $ 100 for four of us.
