Into the courtyard to the back door of an old country home, customers welcomed in by fresh lavender, a friendly dog, and the wafting of fresh baked, artisan French pastries and espresso.

I stayed with a friend who lives in the area, and she recommended going to Anjou on my way out to Leavenworth. I am so glad I did – this was probably one of the best cinnamon rolls I’ve ever had and great indoor/outdoor ambiance. Definitely worth this little stopover!

This place only serves one size coffee and for a small town the owner is awfully snotty and rude. Coffee quality is average. I’ve asked for a drip coffee. The owner says nothing and hands me an americano. Been here 3 times and every time the lady behind the register(assumed owner) is rude. if you are looking for good coffee and what you ask for, without the hassle of a small town mindset business owner, then do not come here.

Once again a terrible experience at Anjou. As usual there was basically nothing for sale. No– please don’t say is because it’s late in the day. I’ve been there early I’ve been there late is always the same. Empty cabinets, one tray of croissants, a few sandwiches(tuna + mayo) on white bread(no green), and granola. The guy in front of me — who was very polite– managed scroungd up some bits and pieces to buy. He was handed the iPad by the cashier who then POINTEDTOTHEGRATUITYSECTION and said ‘here’s the part for gratuity just to let you know so that you can give gratuity for good service’ REALLY??? Please tell me when it became acceptable to point blank ask for a tip? For putting a croissant in a bag? Clearly, I bought my cookie and got out if there as fast as possible. Anjou– please pay your workers a fair wage and inform them that asking customers for tips is not ok. Also, it would be nice if you actually bothered to make more than 5 things.

This bakery is a very good one. I like it because the quality of the items is very high. The place is rather cute and then the middle of Eastern Washington. The lattes are very good and the facility is a nice place to stop. My only gripe would be a little more friendliness in the staff. I would also like to see them sell some of the bread that they make the sandwiches on. I asked to buy some of the bread the other day and they refused. The cinnamon rolls are fantastic and a family favorite. The sandwiches with ham and butter are also a fan favorite

It’s the bread that keeps me coming back. We stop here on the way across the mountains for lunch or a snack. Typically we get a roasted tomato and Brie sandwich on a baguette, and one other choice. During our last visit it was tuna, very simple, but delicious. Ham with butter on a baguette? Yes please. Did I mention the bread? Crusty brown exterior with a soft moist crumb inside and just a slight sour tang. Grab a loaf to go, and maybe some croutons for your salad. The pear tart was excellent, and they have a variety of cookies, and other sweet things if you get there in time. Espresso too, if you need a little jolt.

I would love to love Anjou. The baked goods are excellent, if not a bit pricey. Maybe it’s the je né c’est quoi attitude of the help. I always feel like I’m in New York City, and the servers are sizing me up to see if I’m worthy of being a customer. It’s not soup nazi from Seinfeld, but it’s not Methow valley friendly either. My last visit, we inquired about macaroons. They are outstanding when they have them. The server pointed at the stacked meringues and said they were very similar to macaroons. Not! C’est incroyable si tu pense qu’un meringue est le meme qu’une macaroon. We’ve shifted much of our business over to lone pine north of orondo. The sandwiches there are excellent and great friendly service too. I will still make the occasional stop at Anjou, hoping the service improves. We certainly need a place like Anjou in the Wenatchee area. Hint to help: smile at customers. Some are obnoxious but they’re helping to pay your salary, and you’ll get bettertips too.

We have been coming to this bakery on our way east for years now. While the service has never been particularly good, until today it had never been completely unacceptable either. Today will be the last time we stop. Here is why: after ordering a cappuccino and asking the young man making coffees for the cappuccino to be made«extra dry», he proceeded to make it exactly like a latte. Which is fine if one wants a latte, but it’s not the same as an extra dry cappuccino. The baristas response to being told that the drink was not an extra dry cappuccino was that it was how they made them and that we would have to wait for 5 minutes while he made all of the other drinks behind ours. His snarky attitude and one inappropriate comment after another did not sit well with my husband. The manager came out to try and remedy the situation, which was good, but even he couldn’t keep his employee from saying more out of line comments. They ended up giving us our money back for the drink, also good, but it was way too much stress for what was supposed to be a fun little stop so we won’t be back. If you don’t mind the neither friendly nor unfriendly customer service with the chance for a particularly bad customer service experience interrupting your morning, they do have good pastries and a limited, but tasty, sandwich menu.

A lovely oasis of civilization! Nice atmosphere and terrific bakery treats. We had the shortbread cookie and a fresh pear pastry this time and both were excellent.

If you are driving through central Washington, wait to pee until you get to Anjou Bakery! It’s in the middle of nowhere orchard-land, but easy to find and right off the highway. The people behind this place obviously value both quality ingredients and environment. Importantly, the bathroom is clean and precious. My girlfriend and I stopped twice, both going to and coming from Lake Chelan. Our coffees, pastries and sandwiches were excellent. Anjou Bakery is no doubt the best pit stop you’ll find on your next long drive through Washington!

I would never drive through Cashmere without stopping at Anjou Bakery. It is perfect. The coffee, the tuna sandwiches which are full of sweet yummy butter, the pies… All perfect. I use their pie crust recipe which is on-online for all my pies now. I wish they were open every day 24⁄7!

This place is a gem, and rather unexpected. Very nice inside and out– rustic, idyllic. Can pass it by really fast on Hwy 2. Inside is written; «Euro tradition, American craft», and it really rings true. A real ‘paysanne Boulanger’ in central Wa. Pastries are classic and delicious, and affordable. Cinnamon«toast» made with caramelized croissant dough and vanilla custard, $ 2.50. Bread is gorgeous, good dark bake and open crumb; large loaves that they will sell by the half if you ask. Simple, rustic baguette sandwiches with really good ingredients(great Italian ham and a generous spread of fresh butter, $ 4.40). Quality espresso drinks, with a simplified take on the usual cap/latte/americano menu. Other reviewers remarked on the prices; I thought them very fair given the quality, and there is a range of options. Sweet place!

Owner 3 words «Black bottom cupcakes. « Really taking then off the menu? A staple for over 6 years. You need to bring them back . We stop by both ways for 6 years for those . In addition the ham and butter sandwiches . The brownies do not taste good. Also who wants 5 versions of croissant !? Serious? Only 2 flavors of pie? You need to appeal to a few more taste I also have told scores of peeps to stop by on way to Chelan.

Love this place! I have driven hours just to have the sundried tomato and Brie sandwich. Even my hard to please mother was impressed,(she is a retired pastry chef from the four seasons)

Out of step with what others have experienced here, we must have caught them on a off day. We timed our trip to get there for lunch. There did not seem to be any posting of what sandwiches were available, asked the young man he gave us three choices chose one, but my god $ 8.50 for a cheese sandwich? So I accept it’s my mistake and I should have asked how much each sandwich type was. We have stopped here several times before and always enjoyed the place, but it seems disorganize and a bit seedy. Not sure I will stop again, very disappointing. Agree with another poster the Canele was good, something saved the stop. Michael B

I’m not exactly a guru when it comes to baked goods, but I got this thing called a stomach I gotta satisfy. For starters, eliminate yourself the trouble of finding this place. It can be a doozie. Even then, heads up! Since my discovery of Anjou Bakery, the world suddenly became my enemy. Do not make haste on days you come across my check-ins. Why not slow down and enjoy life more? For, I’m the pestering bird that always gets the worm. The place could use a little home improvement, I’ll admit. A VIP for yours truly, as an example. But, I can suffice with my very own marble statue. A take at Michelangelo’s David, oughta roll in customers and tourists alike? I hate to interrupt this fascinating conversation, but I’m dreadfully getting off topic here. Anyway, Anjou Bakery is at the cornerstone of all things Washington. A truly famous locale worth lookin’ into. Check out their pies! Check out their bakes! Check out their… hold it, hold it!(Hmm…that sounds awfully familiar?) In any case, I’m afraid you won’t find any Powdered Flarts at Anjou Bakery. I love Flarts! They’re famous for romance. Fortunately, their sandwiches and café make up for the disappointment. I’ll say it again! It’s worth lookin’ into!

While the baking is above average, the atmosphere is taking a steady decline. The bakery was initially a rustic barn with an old west touch. Over time a modern remodel has occurred and I feel like it’s taken me from the old west with charm and history to an exaggerated attempt to recreate an opulent Ikea show room. Some things are truly just better left alone. It’s seems if you’re unknown or not a local, you’re just not as welcomed. But at least they have some decent baking going on.
