Really bummed. This place is usually great, but not today. I paid $ 17 for a double bacon burger and a milk shake. No fries.

I used to love coming in here until just now, i just left c&l & a girl named leanne was VERY unsanitary. First, she wasn’t wearing gloves & she was obviously working with peoples food. Secondly, as we are waiting for our food we see her spill ice cream on her hand, so she takes her hand with the ice cream cone in it & licks all the way up her hand. She didnt wash her hands after that, i saw her keep half picking her nose & rubbing it & then she goes outside to bring a couple food & sits & pets their DOG!!! Comes back inside, doesnt wash her hands, no gloves & makes a banana split. Nastiest thing ive ever seen. The food is good i will add!

We stop here EVERY time we go south to do anything. The last 3 times we have stopped since our last review have been nothing short of outstanding! Enjoy the food and the view!

Best comfort food place of Castle Rock. Since moving to the area 7 months ago, this is the only food that actually satisfies a craving for a burger. And their shakes are definitely worth a try. I can see myself becoming a regular here.

This place is a great smaller town restaurant. The staff is always friendly and the food is good. They have a great selection of milkshakes, my favorite is the peanut butter or the pumpkin.

We have heard that this place was really good. So we three tried it out today. Burger, fries, drink and BLT. Save your money and go north to Tumwater at the Brick for the best burger in the area.
The BLT had two pieces of bacon, the fries were the common ones and the burgers lacked any flavor. We rated the place at a 5. We should have gone next door for a great pizza at Pappa Petes. No more burgers for we three first timers at C & L Burger Bar.

I don’t understand the rating of this place. I had fish n chips and the fish was extremely small and burnt. The place is filthy. They don’t wash their hands after taking out the garbage. Yuck! I won’t go there again.

This was an insanely delicious burger, the fries were crispy and hot, and the chocolate malt shake made me smile so much. I don’t get up this way very often, but when I do, I will certainly eat here!

Well I would give it a mixed review. The elk burger just tasted like a regular burger. The steak burger was juicy and big. Onion rings were so-so. Fries got and crispy but lacked flavor. My BLT was dreadfully bland. Tomatoes were boring and it was the least flavorful I’ve had. I left feeling disappointed.

This place successfully made the best Peanut Butter shake Ive ever had. The burger and fries I ordered was made with fresh quality ingredients and you could tell they made their own hamburger patties. They have a drive through that takes awhile, but its bc they take the time to make a quality product. We will be back, for sure!

Remember the days when you could get a bacon double cheeseburger and it barely fit in your hands and dripped grease everywhere? Those days still exist here. The espresso machine was broken. The milkshakes are basically ice cream in a cup with a straw… but it’s local Oregon ice cream and it’s delicious. Will be returning everytime I drive the Friendly Five.

Food is good. Don’t stop if your in a hurry. Burger patties are handmade per order. Liked the burgers, fries weren’t as great.

** Forgot to finish this review from July 2015 ** We flew into Portland and found this place on our way to Tacoma, WA. There were two young ladies working when my family(husband + our 3 kids) walked in. It wasn’t very big, only four or five tables inside and a few outside. We decided to eat inside because it was pretty hot outside. There were two people ahead of us & another family of five waiting for their food. The ladies that were working, they were hustlin’ to get all the orders out quickly. The food was great! An All-American burger joint with great fries, super yummy onion rings, shakes & yummy ice cream. If we’re ever driving up to WA again, we’ll stop here again for sure.

Delicious burgers! A small and cozy dive joint/diner. The inside and outside of the shop looks a bit shady(as do most places with great food to offer). When I went there, it was busy and it can take quite a few minutes for your order(only two young women were working — for drive thru and lobby). The place is dirty and looks unsanitary. Flies everywhere and the appliances look as if they need a thorough cleaning. I just hope they clean them every night. However, if you’re not too squeamish by things like that, I suggest giving their food a chance, at least. They have lamb, elk, and beef patties among others and tastes high quality. It is fresh and eating there doesn’t make you feel crappy afterward, but I suppose that would also depend on what you purchase(I got the deluxe hamburger). They also sell hot dogs and simpler items for pickier eaters, as well as fish and chips, clam strips with garlic bread, and more. I saw a few people come in to get ice cream cones and they are extremely generous with the scoops. The scoops were the size of large sized fists. Holy cow. I would come again, perhaps a to-go order, however.

The sign lured me in with expresso. Machine broken for some time. Place is dirty and lots of flies. Good burger though hence 3 stars.

I have only been here a couple of times when in route to Portland. It has actually become a must stop for sure. They are kind and respectful youth working here every time I come in. This is not a fancy burger joint but what it is… is a good burger joint. In my opinion it beats the big named burger places, hands down.

Good place to come for a real hamburger. Burgers are great. Fries not crispy though and the restroom hadn’t had a proper cleaning in a very long time.

I went into C and L blind; I had no expectations. It’s located in a good sized building with a private parking lot and a bona fide drive-up with a speaker and everything. I went inside, because I had been in the car for quite a while and you get a better idea of how a place operates from the inside. Plus, I like checking out the locals. Every town has its own vibe, ya know. There was a lot of signage on the fence that bordered the edge of the parking lot. You see these quite a bit. They basically try to entice you to come in and list menu items. The intriguing items on C and L’s signs weren’t the standard burgers, fires and shakes, though. No, they had lamb, elk and buffalo burgers! You don’t see that everyday. I passed on those more exotic meats and stuck to the usual: a Bacon Cheeseburger and Fries. It was moderately busy when I walked in, maybe a dozen people inside the restaurant and two or three cars in line at the drive-up. I was surprised to see that two young girls were running the entire show, but they were obviously well trained and looked at ease as one of them worked the grill and the other handled the front counter. I placed my order and took a seat while I waited. I had a good vantage point to see the burgers as they came off the grill and were assembled. Burger after burger looked picture perfect. Well trained, indeed. The bun was toasted, the bacon was crispy and the cheese was melted. They had a good amount of their ‘secret sauce’ distributed on the bun. It was of the ‘goop’ or tartar sauce variety. The patty was cooked through, but wasn’t tough or dried out. It had a nice crust on it’s outer surface. My only criticism of the burger was that it was under-seasoned. Everything else, though, was aces. Oh yeah, crinkle cut fries. Always a good call in my book! I’ll have to come back and try out one of their exotic burgers. But, for now, I’m happy to know that there’s some place decent to stop at in Castle Rock.

It is always nice to find a place where you least expect it. I now live in Portland and Washington is THATCLOSE, so one can wander in another state pretty easily. The only reason for my excursion on this day was my buddy was going to pick up his son for the weekend and I decided to tag along because I haven’t seen much of this state yet. We were hitting a midpoint between where we live in Portland and where his ex lives, north of Seattle(not 100% on that, but it doesn’t matter) He picks up his son in Castle Rock. Wasn’t that also the name of the town in quite a few Stephen King novels? Anyway, we stopped in the parking lot of a Burger King. I know, the horror. The king of crapola. I don’t eat fast food at all. Haven’t set foot in or eaten at a Micky Ds, Burger King, Wendy’s or any of the like in over 16 years and I haven no plans on changing that. Fast casual, is a different story. So we were waiting and right next door was C&L. I made mention of it to my buddy and he was like ‘Yeah, that’s a great place.“ Tiny, Tiny, TINY burger shop. Two girls were working and surprisingly there was a decent sized menu. For obvious reasons, you go for the burger. The special of the day was Halibut(Fish & chips). I still went with a burger. You can get regular burgers but they also have the option of buffalo, elk, lamb, veggie and a pastrami burger. Very unexpected. The quarter pound burgers come with the usual garden(lettuce, tomato, pickles, onion) and their special sauce(mayo, mustard and relish mix) and if you get the basket, you get krinkle-cut fries as well. They have something called fry sauce which was Miracle Whip based, and wasn’t too pleasant but they had some sriracha in the back and we made our own version of the fry sauce. It worked, and I let one of the girls know she should try it. The have ice cream and shakes as well and for a place in the middle of nowhere right off I-5, it’s not a bad place to happen upon. I do enjoy finding place where I least expect them. Yay for hole-in-the walls!!!
