Bad Bass Half Marathon, 10k and 5k

Despite having run in several races (10k, 10mi, and half marathon) over the past 18 months, I decided to try my first 5k at the Bad Bass. Brazen Racing has become my favorite race company, since they put on such organized races with great swag. This one was no different. Everything is on time and well-​marked. As with any race, I’d suggest getting here early, that way you have time to park, get your packet, etc.
The 5k had probably the fewest number of people who signed up, compared to the 10k and half marathon distances. Just so you know, the 10k and 5k distances were «just over» 6.2 & 3.1 miles (call them «ultra» 10k and 5k, if you will, haha).
Once again, post-​race refreshments were great, with bagels, granola, candy, all types of fruit, etc.

This was my first «organized» race. I participated in the 10K race with my friend. The first part of the course was pretty easy, the hills right before the turn around were pretty hard! The race was well organized and the finishers medals were awesome! I will definitely participate in another Brazen Race as soon as I can get in some more training. Thank you to the organizers, the volunteers and the photographer who was friendly and took some great shots!

Wow! Bad Bass ½ Marathon was wonderfully wicked.
This was my first Brazen Race experience. I found the entire event to be well organized, great communication via email, and a great group of people to be part of.
I was part of group of ½ marathoners that started an hour early. Thank you allowing this flexibility. We started on time at 7:00 am. Great pre-​race instructions. The trail was clearly marked for all three races 5k 10K & ½. Nice healthy aid stations en route, free pictures, nice selection of after race food, awesome ‘bling’/finisher medal.
This by far was the toughest ½ I have done. Miles 3 – 5 were ‘Bad Bass’ wicked and definitely not for the mamezee pamzee, unconditioned or faint at heart. Mile 3 – 5 took me up to elevations of 2000 feet… NO JOKE!

Bad Bass ½ Marathon, July 28, 2012… this is the best way I could think of to honor my wedding anniversary even though I am now a widow. Cheers to the life I once had with my husband, Don.

My kids (5 and 6) and myself ran Bad Bass in ’10 and ’11 and it is a very fun race. Rolling hills, not flat, but very pretty scenery and Brazen knows how to put on a race! there was an aid station on the 5k course. All 5k finishers get very nice finisher medals. They have amazing assortment of food and snacks on the course and at the finish line. Fabulous shirts! We love Brazen and will definitely be back for ’12

Completed the 5k with my girl. The 5k run was all paved trail, with some rollercoaster inclines. The post run was fullfilling. Haha They had energy drinks, bagels, fruits, gels, iron supplements, and It’s — it…
After completing the run, we received a nice weighty finishers medal.

Bad Bass is a small 5K /​10K /​half marathon trail racing event put on by Brazen Racing every year at the end of July at Lake Chabot. I ran it this year because I was looking for a 10K in that time frame that wasn’t too far from home, and in spite of the INSANE hill at mile 3, it was tons of fun! Reasonably priced ($ 29÷34÷50), easy parking, nice shirts, hefty finisher medals for all, and age group medals 3 deep in five-​year increments — not a bad deal!

This is my very first Brazen Race and trail ½ marathon. It was awesome!
Brazen did a great job organizing the event from registration to the post race celebration. All the details were thought out.
The 5K was entirely on paved trails, while the 10K and half marathon were about 50% paved trails and 50% fire trails.
The 5K and 10K were out and back courses, while the half marathon for 2011 looped Lake Chabot.
The half marathon was not for the faint of hearts. My GPS showed elevation climbs over 2,500ft!
Every mile of the ½ marathon was a challenge. Especially mile 3 on the Live Oak trail. Intense incline for over a mile! Mile 8 was almost a free fall with a vertical descent for over a ¼ mile. And finally, Mile 9 which ran along the dry river bed single track.
After an intense course, it was nice to finish with great recovery food (fruits, bagels, pastries, IT-IT’s ice cream and cheesecake!)
Love the well designed dry-​fit tee and finishers’ metal. I will wear both proudly!
