Dana’s Party Planet

Ordered save the dates for a rehearsal dinner. Company misspelled word. Then had the audacity to charge full price for reprint. Even though they made the mistake. Would have fought the issue but did not have the time or energy to waste. Poor customer service. Will not buying anything here again.

I bought a beautiful diaper cake for a baby shower here! They really did a great job. 75 diapers, 4 pairs of socks, 8 wash cloths and a stuffed toy, all wrapped perfectly!
I have been here for balloons and other party supplies in the past… I live across the bay now, but I’d still go there if I was in the area.

This store used to be the best place to go for décor, favors for wedding baby showers and parties. The new location looks nice but the products are over priced, poor quality and not a very good selection. The customer service was not add good either the lady who was helping us seemed confused and not sure of the products she was selling. The new store was awful and needs a business consultant to turn a good business going and customers happy. They should call me I could turn this store around.

Grew up going to Dana’s. Planning my friends shower so waited all week to go to Dana’s. They moved off of Redwood, but called and they told me where to go. I thought, wow this is going to be great! it was horrible, I found nothing, everything looked outdated, nothing modern, all old decorations. They used to have a great bachelorette section, and it was a tiny wall. I was so disappointed, and what a waste of a drive! They need to check out Pinterest, and give their store a makeover!

Poor quality products and even worse customer service. I ordered two dozen balloons over the phone for a staff event I was coordinating. I work at a non-​profit organization that provides mental health, housing, and other services to system-​involved youth and their families. Our jobs are often difficult and staff really appreciate these events.
The person I spoke to was helpful, though she sounded like I was irritating her. I asked her to fax me a receipt and she asked for my fax number, which I gave her. By the next morning, I hadn’t received the receipt, but figured I’d just ask my coworker who would be picking up the balloons to get a copy for me. No big deal.
My coworker goes in first thing in the morning to pick up the balloons. They’re lovely, but the staff member helping her says that they’ve been popping and gives her a couple extra. By the time my coworker gets across the parking lot to her car and gets on her way, 9 of the 24 balloons (that’s just over a third) have popped!
After our event, I call Dana’s to tell them about the popped balloons to ask if they can offer us a discount since so many popped. The person who answered my call puts the lady who took my order on the phone after explaining that the balloons pop sometimes if they bump up against things, have dents (?), or it’s windy.
The person who took my order informs me that, if we hadn’t left with the balloons they could offer a discount – this is in spite of the fact that they admitted that they were popping in the first place. She isn’t swayed by the fact that more than a third of the balloons popped. She goes on to deny that I ever gave her my fax number for the receipt. She ultimately hangs up on me!
Balloons aren’t pivotal for an event, but we definitely won’t be patronizing Dana’s Party Planet ever again.

Idk why i am just now finding out about this store. So many good finds and super affordable! The owners’ daughter was so helpful and kind! Definitely will be shopping here often!

This review is mostly for Britney. I stopped in to take a look at Wedding invites and was pleasantly greeted by Britney. From there, she went above and beyond the expected customer service. She sat with me at the table and helped me look through tons of books and was so patient, kind and caring. I ended up purchasing my invites through them and they came out beautiful! Thanks again Britney! :)

Small business and it has a lot to offer. Parking is free and plenty of it. Prices are pretty good too.

This place saved me twice in one week. I had two cupcake orders and I couldn’t find what I needed at Party City. Not only did Party City not have what I needed, the stores were a mess and they were so crowded. This place was a breath of fresh air, a huge parking lot in the back with tons of open parking. The store is huge with lots of items. I found just what I needed and surprisingly cheaper than I expected.
Some of their items may be a little more expensive than Walmart or Party City, but honestly the service is great, the lines are super short, the store is clean and organized. I don’t mind paying a little more for a better shopping experience!

I used Dana’s for favors and diaper cakes for my best friend’s baby shower. Everything turned out beautifully! The customer service was amazing. Each of the reps that helped me were thorough in explaining the ordering process and excited about creating the favors. The prices were reasonable as well. I would definitely use Dana’s again for my party needs!

AMAZING service! Brittany was beyond helpful along with the rest of the staff. She gave me so many options to help add details to my wedding day. I felt comfortable and not at all pressured to buy anything. I will definitely be back for all of my party needs!

This place is a joke! I am heartbroken! I am 10 days away from my wedding and the supplies I ordered nearly 3 weeks ago still aren’t here. And guess what the owner Dana said to me to offer me comfort, «you should have read the fine print.» Is that what you say to a bride to be who is 10 days from her wedding? They never said there is a possibility of delays. Instead of being solution focused and compassionate (especially since you’re in the event planning business), that’s what you say to a bride to be? Don’t waste your money here! I will forever tell people about my bad experience here. I will never come here agAin. I feel miserable. And then tonight, they told me the order arrived, I told my elderly mother to go pick it up only to go drive there for an hour to find out that it was the wrong items that they ordered! I’m heartbroken! I hate you Dana! I hope you go out of business! I will tell EVERYONE about your terrible customer service! I really don’t like this place!!!

Update. Uh oh I guess things started off good with Dana’s Party Planet but ended on a sour note. Somewhere along the way in her dealings with Party Planet my fiancé requested for Dana G to contact her several times but Dana never reached out to be of any assistance.

I started shopping at Dana’s when they were across the street from the CV Village and continued giving them my business when they moved to Redwood Road. They used to be awesome!
About 4 years ago, the party supply selection started looking picked over and bare. They were out of more and more basic party supplies and the employees weren’t very helpful and seemed as if they weren’t enjoying their jobs. I knew the economy was bad and I REALLY wanted to shop locally, but more and more I found myself driving out to Boswells in Danville to buy my party supplies. Eventually, I quit shopping at Dana’s.
Dana’s moved again and I decided to give them another chance. So, I headed over to their new store on Castro Valley Blvd. Immediately, I was struck by the fact that it didn’t feel like a party store. (I know that sounds weird, but to me, a party store should have a party FEEL!!!) Instead, the store gave off a cold and impersonal vibe. The party supply selection was NOT good. Two of the staff members were talking negatively about people. (PLEASE people… if you are going to discuss personal issues while on the job, WAIT UNTIL YOUR CUSTOMERS ARE OUT OF EAR SHOT!!!)
My friend, who was with me, commented on the fact that it felt like we were begrudgingly asked if we needed help when we entered the store. Besides the employees, there was no one else in the store, yet not one person ever came back to check on us to see if we were finding what we needed.
I did find a little package of 4^th of July napkins that I decided to buy. At the counter, one of the aforementioned employees checked us out with a sour look on her face and no enthusiasm. I didn’t take it personally… it was honestly just bad business etiquette.
So as much as I want to give my patronage to this store that is literally 3 minutes from my house, I will continue to make the 20 minute drive out to Boswells in Danville or even Party City. Makes me sad.

New location is great, but what happened to the party planet?
The old location was just packed to the hilt with literally anything you could possibly need for any occasion. They recently moved to a much better location on the blvd. in what seems to be a larger space. I went inside today, and was totally shocked and disappointed. It’s like they just finished having a «going out of business» blowout. I found nothing I would have normally readily found within the other store. There seemed to be just one person working today. And she said that what was in stock is what they carry.. . So what happened ???
Off to Party City in Dublin for me. Guess Castro Valley has lost a CV staple.

Ok, the star rating on here is a little weird with the descriptions. this place could use a remodel on the inside, but I don’t care– this place rocks… which is why I gave it 5 stars.
I had seen this place for years, and I finally had a reason to go in there to shop. This is a local business, so I thought I’d support them.
From the moment I walked in, I had nothing but great service, there was a great selection (and they apologized for the odd little things that I was looking for that they didn’t have, which was totally okay!). Price didn’t seem outrageous, and the biggest thing: they went above and beyond for service! I ordered balloons for a big milestone birthday for me, and the person that was going to help pick them up was running WAY late. They had already been closed for like 15 minutes when my friend arrived, and they still stayed and gave the balloons to him. This was wonderful, being that balloons were the number one recommendation that the place I was hosting my party at suggested.

This is the place that you want to go if of course you need party items that are priced right, made right and you get knowledgeable employees that actually want to help.

I want to like this store better, because it is so close to my house, but the selection leaves a lot to be desired. When I came here a few weeks ago the shelves were pretty barren, and the things they did have looked like remainders from another store. They do have a nice assortment of balloons, and this is a fast place to stop by for a balloon bouquet.
The bridal and baby shower sections seemed especially sparse, pretty lame, really. They have a lot of «favor» plastic things in bins in the back, but few choices for basics like themed napkins, or pretty plates or decorations, and the things they did have in stock were shopworn.
If you’re throwing together a generic birthday party at the last minute in Castro Valley, then I suppose this is the store for you. But if you’re looking for a specific party item I would call ahead to save time.

I used to come here as a little girl and it was always fun and exciting but when I came here for to look for stuff for my son’s birthday party I was a little sad. They have a variety of themes but the store really doesn’t look much like a party store. It’s really drab walking in and the store looks like a white maze.
The have the basics you need and like I said some cool theme stuff but I didn’t find anything for the birthday party.
I imagine if you are looking for a place to help you host a wedding or a large formal party, then this might be the place for you because they can do custom invitations and decorations. The staff is very friendly they’ll help you find what you need.

I really wanted to like Dana’s however I would be giving them 0 stars except Unilocal doesn’t let you and I suppose they earn one because at least my invitations came in right. This is my main issue, I was ordering items not made in store. Although my garters were made in store and ready for pick up, which I found out on accident by dropping by, not by a friendly phone call letting me know. BTW, I chose black for my garters and I was told it would be 2 weeks longer because they didn’t have BLACK in stock?!! Really, cause that’s such a hard and uncommon color huh? The garters took a month in total.
I ordered wedding invitations, save the dates, flowers for favors and bells for favors. Most came in when expected. All of these items were pretty okay but again don’t actually expect to get a phone call when your items come in like a normal business would. I had to find out by calling several times, being put on hold several times and «dropping by.» The bells I had ordered however were the main problem. No phone call no nothing a couple of days after when they were due to be in so I dropped in again when we were told the wrong kind came in (not sure if this was the outside company’s fault or there’s however I would still assume a phone call should be in order) and we were told it should be 4 more days. Granted they did come in by then but still no apology no phone call no courtesy.
Long story short: if you are planning a special event such as a shower, party or wedding in which you want to order special personalized items make sure you do it with PLENTY of time because I can almost guarantee you it’ll take longer then what they will tell you every time. I don’t consider myself a bridezilla but these folks were really really pushing it!
