Good trail in East Bay. Part of the Bay Area Ridge Trail. Permit needed to hike trail network on EBMUD land. Trail head is off staging area/parking lot near tight bend on Redwood Road about 2 miles or so from Castro Valley Blvd. Moderate-strenuous hike. 50 minutes to 1.5 hours to reach dinosaur ridge with about 900+ feet of elevation change, depending on conditions. Steep, slippery, sections with loose rocks. Complete 11 mile loop takes around 8 hours. Trail is open year round to permit holders, but can be treacherous in the rainy season do to mud, cows, and cow pies! Great views, rock outcroppings, oaks, evergreens, views of EBMUD roads and Christmas tree farm, and wildlife. We hiked here several times as part of our training to do the Half Dome hike in Yosemite. I definitely recommend it.
