There is no way to describe in a short review how amazing the people at Jess Spencer are. Losing a loved one turns your whole world upside down, but being able to make one phone call and know that all the details will all be efficiently attended to means everything!
My Mom is very ill and I called Jess Spencer and was gently asked a series of questions and was given a telephone number to call, day or night, whenever they were needed.
No matter where you are, or what logistics may be involved in your loss, you have only to make this one call to be connected with a team of professionals who can take over and make sure that everything is handled perfectly for you. I can’t recommend Wes and the Team at Jess Spencer highly enough.

Nothing but good things to say about Jess C. Spencer Mortuary. From the special instructions we had for the cremation to the arranging of the service, everything was perfect. Kay and her team went out of their way to make sure my family and I were confident that everything would go as planned. They get a well deserved 5 stars from me.

We used this Mortuary for the services of our father and used the cremation facility of the Mortuary.
We were provided with excellent customer service, advise on pertinent matters, reasonable price for casket, flowers.etc., and personal expert service by Karen Bauer, «Kay «funeral director. We highly recommend this Mortuary. It should be first stop before wasting time, energy and money in checking out other Mortuaries. The staff is professional, the facility is excellent and location and parking is just right.

Spencer’s was recommended by the cemetery we chose just before my sweetheart passed. I wasn’t sure I’d use them but I’m very glad that when the day came, and I still hadn’t decided, that I just went with them. They don’t post their pricing online and wouldn’t email it; they did put it in the mail. Since it took a few days to get the price list in the mail, it made it harder for me to know for sure if they were a fit. But I’m glad I went with them.
They promptly answered the phone when I called and within an hour were at the house to respectfully transport, explaining all I needed to know along the way. Later that afternoon, I got a call setting up my appointment for the next morning. At that meeting, they walked me through what was required and easily allowed me to purchase my own casket and craft a grave side service package around it. They arranged the appointment with the cemetery to finalize the plot and made sure I knew who I could follow up with if needed before the services.
Since buying your own casket results in not being able to use their package prices, there was an 18% cost increase in grave side services. In researching, that is less than other mortuary up charges for independent casket purchases (I shouldn’t say up charge, as it’s illegal — rather you don’t get a discount). They also don’t charge a material disposal fee (a different mortuary charges $ 1000!).
They recommended a florist, and the result was stunning. Even the bees loved the flowers!. The casket topper was beautiful although the said it would come with 2 boutonnieres, but we didn’t get them (nor did we remember until after). They arranged for a pastor to officiate, and he was wonderful, meeting our chaotic household and taking our ramblings and disjointed remembrances and capturing the essence of his life along with the core message we wished to convey.
They were on-​time and professional at the cemetery, registering guests and collecting flower cards and passing along at the end. I am very grateful for their care and attention throughout the process. Having everything taken care of sure helps when everything else is chaotic and there’s not much time.
I hope I don’t need them again, but if I did, I’d certainly go to them.

Please do not take your love ones to this awful place. They were so rude to us when we went to see their facility. They are supposed to be loving and understanding for your loss… But they treated us like if we were going to steal something. We were not treated with dignity and respect not even the homeless get treated this way…

The best thing about this place is the staff. Yolanda, especially, is just the best. She is very caring and helpful and is a pleasure to deal with. We were going to use McAvoy in San Francisco since SF is where my mom died. After a horrible day dealing with the staff at McAvoy, however, we needed to look at other options. So glad we did. I cannot fully relay how wonderful Yolanda was. She did so much to try and help us even though we did not know her or anyone who knew her before our search for a funeral home for my mom.
The location of Jess C Spencer is right off 580 which is good and bad. Good that it’s easy to get to, bad that it’s right next to the highway (lot of highway noise). The inside of the funeral home is very nice, you can’t hear the traffic noise in there. The chapel was much larger than what we needed. We were 20, but the chapel could easily accommodate a much larger group, at the very very least 50. They have a nice decent-​sized reception area (where you can have have food and drink (there’s a fridge, microwave, and sink in there)) for an extra charge that is very reasonable. They have a nice very good-​sized quiet room in the back of the chapel that was perfect for my sister to use to breastfeed her newborn child. It can also open up to the chapel if you have a larger group that doesn’t all fit in the main chapel room. They have a crematory onsite, which is very convenient for families who need to do a cremation.
Be aware, they also have a morgue onsite, which if you think about it, is a little creepy. Anyway, it is very much out of view, so.
The prices they charge are very reasonable and we actually ended up saving $ 3000 by going with Jess C Spencer instead of McAvoy in SF.
The only thing that would really make this place a lot better is having a nice outside area to hang out. Instead of using the larger reception room/​area inside the building, you have the option of setting up tables for drinks and snacks just outside the building, but… it’s just not that nice an area to hang out at. It’s adjacent to the parking lot and exposed to the highway noise. For this reason, I strongly suggest paying the extra fee for the inside reception area which is a much, much nicer area.
Other than lacking a nice outside area, Jess C Spencer was excellent. Staff were very accommodating and facilities were far better/​nicer than what we expected just by looking from the outside. We had ceremony for my mom there in early January of 2014.

My mother’s funeral was held here, although not by my choice. I found the place to be kind of worn down. Parking is minimal. Lots of freeway noise since it’s practically underneath it. There is no place to sit or stand around and talk comfortably except outside. But they did allow my dumb ass half-​brother to wear his gang affiliation attire, which he said he wore to honor my mother in the only way he knew how. I guess them allowing him to do so was a favor from what I was told. But the fact that it was even a consideration was a surprise to me, but what do I know about gangs? They also did allow me to bring my mother’s dog into the chapel for the service. The staff was helpful I guess but I wasn’t the one writing the check so they didn’t interact with me that much. I would say that it’s best to check out places like this well before you need them so that you aren’t stuck with something you aren’t happy with but you are going to remember a long, long time. This isn’t like a restaurant review where taste is what matters. To be fair, this is about something you will have an emotional response to so while it didn’t suit me, you may have a different experience.

Phillip, Yolanda, and Kay helped plan and take care of our family on the day of the service. When we went there to make arrangements, they listened carefully and provided us with exactly what we needed. They did NOT try to upsell/​pressure us into anything. On the day of the service, Phillip was there the entire day helping with everything. The location was convenient (right off the freeway) and there was plenty of parking. With so much to worry about and grieve over at a time like this, Spencer’s makes it a little easier.

I have had to work with Jess C Spencer mortuary a few times and I’m only 31 years old. 4 years ago my brother passed away and my parent’s were too grief stricken to go in there so I had to make all the arrangements. They made it so easy for me and really do care about their clients feelings. Although his makeup was a bit dark (we were camping a few days before and he got really sunburnt) it turned out to be a loving and peaceful process. A year later my mom joined my brother and again Ihad to make all the arrangements. And they remembered me very well and even helped me with music, including letting me borrow Peggy’s Elvis cd in her car. They just really walked me through everything and the communication was excellent. 2 years after that I was there fo rmy grandfather’s funeral. And they remembered me and asked how I was doing. they are just very good at what they do and made this extremely difficult process easy to get thru without any hassle. And it allowed me to grieve for my loved ones, instead of worry about their service.

Not a fan of having to review this business at all, but I believe that they are responsible for a very important service and should be credited for the good job they do.
The associates at Jess C Spencer took my family in on a very short notice, 3 days before the memorial for my father took place. As all funeral homes/​mortuaries should be, they were patient, supportive, and comforting.
Wesley organized our service and took care of all the paperwork and planning leaving us with time to do the creative things that every memorial service deserves.
I can’t say that I enjoyed doing business with them, because it is impossible to enjoy the end of your father’s life, but they made the process as painless and serene as possible.
The facilities are fairly large and can be molded to your specific needs (crosses, flags, flowers etc.) There is a mortuary on site and usually they don’t let people in to watch unless the family specifically requests to be there. We were not that family, so I don’t have any info on the inside of those facilities.
Prices are reasonable, we got everything (including the cemetery burial fees) covered for about 11k… dying is not cheap :)
