Have used catawba kennels multiple times(at least 5 times) in the last few months. They were referred to me by a coworker after multiple disasters with other kennels. I can barely contain my 1 year old giant puppy when we pull in the drive way, her tail starts wagging and trying to get her to calm down before we go in is difficult. My puppy loves Bron and Susan and seems to forget me when she sees them. Unlike the other kennels in roanoke, I had to drag or carry her in the door– now she pulls me in through the door to the waiting area. I do take my own food, plus medicine and toothbrush toothpaste for my puppy and they have always administered her meds and brushed her teeth. The prices are reasonable and the grooming is awesome! She usually stays show ready for about a week. She tends to not want to play in the mud or dig after a bath. I have also called, texted and they have repsonded efficiently and quickly. They have also been great to accomodate my late or early arrivals/drop offs due to flt times or out of town energencies. Would definately recommend them to anyone. They are worth the drive… And the scenari is amazing(compared to detroit michigan)

So after our harrowing experience at Flying Fur(feel free to read that review…), Catawba was recommended to us by Hilltop, who didn’t have space for our puppy that weekend. I called Catawba and talked to Susan who said they had openings that weekend and, since she could tell I was a little anxious about leaving our puppy for the first time, offered to have me come in for a tour prior to dropping our puppy off. Since Catawba had been recommended by another kennel, I declined the pre-tour and made an appointment. She asked me to bring all of our puppy’s vaccination records, his food, bedding and even toys that he likes to play with, which made me feel like he was definitely going to feel more at home. As soon as we walked in on Friday morning, Susan and Bronn, the manager, were in the waiting room and saying my puppy’s name. «He’s here! Welcome(my dog’s name)!» They were petting him and showing him attention. He loved it. Susan looked through everything I had brought and I was able to tell her about his feeding schedule and his eye drops, all that good stuff. She also gave me a tour of the kennel room and the outdoor space, which put my anxieties at ease. As I was saying my goodbyes to our pup, another dog came in and he started playing, basically saying, «Peace out, Mom, I’m good here.» Another good sign. While we were away, Susan sent us texts with pictures of our puppy in his kennel, getting a bath and barking at the goats that live next door. Getting those texts and knowing that he was having fun definitely made it easier to relax during the weekend. Another perk: when I picked him up, it was only $ 60 for two nights, a bath and nail clipping. While this place is a little bit off the beaten path, the drive out there is beautiful and it’s well worth it! We will definitely be back.
