Drove from north ogden for a couple bottles of wine only to find out its closed. The website says it opens at 11 am when I got there the sign said 12. Came back at 12 and the owner wasn’t there, tried calling and nothing.

The wine here is quite good, though sadly the actual offerings from Utah grapes are slim to nonexistent. Most of the grapes are brought in from California, though some are also from Oregon. Tried five wines: Reisling, Roussane, Petit Syrah, red blend, and a late harvest Zinfandel. All were quite good, but some were overpriced. That said, it appears to be hard to buy good wine in Utah, so perhaps it’s worth the price to locals. The Roussane was about $ 27, the Petit Syrah was around $ 40. The others were all under $ 20. While all were good and I took a couple cheaper bottles home(red blend and late harvest Zinfandel), I wouldn’t go out of my way to get the wine here just yet. I’m looking forward to this winery expanding its Utah offerings. Hopefully, they have something unique to offer that I couldn’t get in California. One other thing: your tastings are pre selected, which is unfortunate as you can’t stick to the grapes you love or avoid the ones you don’t. If they had made available some of their rarer grapes or just given me a choice, I would have given this place a higher rating.

It’s awesome that there’s a winery here. It’s too bad that something is very wrong… Tastings are expensive, the credit toward bottles has diminished and bear in mind that when they upsell the cheese plate they may not mention that they’re out of cheese until you’ve already paid and their system doesn’t allow for any remuneration. $ 8 for crackers and dried fruit seems pretty steep.

Anthony David was very knowledgeable about all the wines on the tasting menu. We have frequented the iron gate and each time received exceptional service and wonderful wines. The tasting room is both outside in the garden and inside based on weather and preference. We look forward to going back on our next visit to Cedar City.

We stopped here over New Year’s weekend. There are a lot of different wines to try and our host was very friendly and knowledgeable. It was a fun, relaxing way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

Definitely a fan, my wife and I come to Cedar City once a year for the Shakespeare festival and have just found this place. Not far from the main street and within walking distance from just about everything. We saw the wine tasting sign and thought why not, the grounds are very nice and clean, located at the rear of a bed and breakfast which looks very welcoming. Now on to the wine tasting, there are some nice varieties to sample. I recommend the snack plate to accompany your white and red wine samples. My personal favorite is the white wine chardonnay 2011 and the red dessert wine zinfandel 2009. I don’t know to much about wine and which wine compliments what but Tony made my wife and I feel welcome and comfortable. Learned a few things and will definitely be coming back next year.

We had a great time tasting the wines in the tasting garden. The staff was very knowledgable and taught us about some varietals that we had previously never tasted. what a great way to end an evening after the shakespeare festival. We would go back in a heartbeat!

What a pleasant surprise in the middle of a residential area. I’m not a wine snob by no means… these wines tasted very good to me. I brought back several bottles for us and our daughter & son-in-law. We travel to other wine areas in CA and compare this one to some smaller wineries in Solvang very homey and down to earth.

I’m a fan of the winery in general, but I’ll admit that the wine itself is just A-OK. What elevates the experience is the nice garden setting they have for you to enjoy your pourings. In Napa and Sonoma, every wine tasting I’ve ever done occurs inside the tasting room. At Iron Gate, they practically guilted us into going outside to enjoy the beautiful late summer Cedar City afternoon weather. Add the fact that the staff are extremely nice and you’ve got yourself a wonderful little spot in Cedar City. Incidentally, you’ll find Iron Gate Winery behind the Iron Gate Bed and Breakfast. If you’re staying at the B&B(which comes recommended by not just myself), then visiting the winery is a no-brainer.

Although we didn’t go to the inn, we went to the winery. The staff was wonderful and very personable. You can see how passionate they are about their wines which was a nice experience. We enjoyed our tasting outdoors in a very relaxing garden. This is a must do in Cedar City! Update, we visited the winery again this past September 2013 and brought a few bottles home with us. We opened the bottles a month later and it tasted like vinegar. Big disappointment.
