Vending machine outside does not work with credit card. Frustrating. Yet oddly satisfying that it saved me from myself — eating a huge bag of chocolate covered pecans at $ 17.

It is a fun place to stop. It has more than just pecan pies. It is full of pies, candy, jewelry, souvenirs, and many other items. They have fresh tomatoes too. It smells amazing. The giant squirrel is a great photo op.

Great place for a hot cup of coffee and lots of pecans, it’s fun to look at all the tourist stuff. The only other giant squirrel we’ve seen was a candy company in Sinton. I wish they’d make up some smaller bags of the assorted sugar free offerings, if I buy the smallest size they sell… i’ll eat the whole thing on the way back to the house.

This place is great! If you are headed away from Austin on 71, then it’s kind of hard to get to, and going to Austin it kind of creeps up on you! But I love it! They have a vending machine out front for if it’s closed! How cute is that??? I am happy to see they got a new miss pearl with a Better step platform! But I liked the grey better. The ladies inside are always so sweet! They are always sampling! Their fudge is great and don’t mind mixing up different flavors if you buy some. I love their coated pecans and that they sell pecan trees! The lady who worked there told us that if you email them the picture of you in front of miss pearl they print it out and put it on the wall and«you never know when Matthew McConaughey is going to come in» These ladies crack me up! See you soon girls!

We love stopping at Berdoll for gifts and for yummy pecan snacks to eat on our drive when heading home to Houston from Austin! Why am I finally writing a review on Unilocal after years of frequenting this establishment? I want everyone to know the type of amazing people who work at Berdoll. When I returned home to Houston after a 2.5 hour drive from Austin, I realized I was missing my wedding ring. I called Berdoll’s to see if by some small miracle I had lost it in the store. This was my lucky day, as apparently my wedding ring had fallen to the ground in the Berdoll parking lot! Thank you to the unbelievable stranger who turned it in, and thank you to the Berdoll staff for keeping it safe until I noticed and was able to send a friend to collect it for me!!! I know amazing karma will be coming your way soon!!!

To put it bluntly, a great tourist trap! Tons and tons of pecan stuff and candies. The in house made fudge looked awesome, but I passed cause we just ate. Lots of gift shop stuff, and of course Glenda bought something. Definitely worth a stop to look and buy something sweet. And wait till you see the BIG squirrel!

Great gift ideas at a reasonable price. I ordered 2−10lb packs from the company website( ) and tried both the Pawnee and Kiowa pecans. The Pawnee pecans cost $ 52.00/ 10-lb box and the Kiowa was $ 58.00/10lb box. Shipping was an additional $ 14.95 via United Parcel Service. Ordering from the website was easy and the selections are clearly laid out. Order tracking was made simple with email notifications and provided detailed information. The boxes arrived within the quoted time frame and the contents were sealed and well-packaged. The products were fresh and was still in its shell. This is a great gift idea for any nut lovers and I would highly recommend trying their online store. The company also carries chocolate covered nuts, mixed nuts, and candy pails.

Out and about on the highway… heading home. Stopped in because… SQUIRREL!!! I mean, seriously… who can pass up a giant squirrel with a pecan on the side of the road? LOL The store was super cutie inside… lots of kitschy items, fudge, jellies, lotions, etc. Great side of the road store!

Well really now, when you’re driving down a dull stretch of highway and you see a giant squirrel clutching a pecan outside of a roadside shop, of course you stop in! Berdoll’s is known for«Ms. Pearl the Squirrel»(you can take your pic with her and email it to «her» email address, and you will be put on their wall with other similar pics). It is also known for nuts. Pecans are king here(as one might infer from the statue), and you can get a variety of flavors. I picked honey roasted and promptly gnashed through them in two days. In addition to nuts, homemade fudge and other treats, there are general-type souvenirs, but I have to say that things seemed not only pricey but overpriced. I’d say stick with the nuts and get the«greetings from Austin» goods elsewhere.

Stopped here on our way home from Bastrop State Park. The staff was super friendly and welcoming. The pecan coffee was superb! At 2pm I was surprised no one had had any. I’d like to think she made it just for me. Anyway, I walked out with an 8oz bag to share with my lovely coworkers! Hurry up Tuesday so I can drink it again!

I’m giving 4 stars because when we went here, the inside is super cute and nice, the people are friendly, great sales and variety of choices to shop from, some being verrrry pricy! The fudge is great, take a sample! We bought both pecan bars and a regular pecan pie because of the rave reviews! I had a friend bake me some pecan bars a while back and have been craving them! They were a bit of a disappointment… The crust was too greasy and a little moist a couple days after. Then the pie had way toany pecans to filling ratio. It was kind of sad because we hoped it’d be better for a $ 17 pie or $ 10 pecan bars. You can get a giant pie from HEB for $ 13 and its WAYWAY better. I know this is a local small biz, but the prices just don’t match the product. Sorry. But next time I’ll be going Down The street to HEB. THAT one is delicious. When we head back that way, I will definitely be stopping for fudge and a little shopping for super cute stuff though!

Personally, I would never spend $ 17 on a pecan pie… but I’m glad my CEO did: D I had 2 slices of pecan pie & it was DELICIOUS!!! Great gift idea for the holidays if you know someone who loves pecan pie. Great crust. Great filling. Topped with plenty of pecans. I didn’t like the chocolate pecan pie as much as the plain. It’s basically the plain pecan pie with a layer of chocolate chips under the nuts. Comes in a cardboard pie box with a Texas shape cut out of it. Cute.

A friend and I decided to take a road trip on Sunday to see Ms Pearl, the giant squirrel, it didn’t disappoint. My friend and I had a blast posing infront of the 10 feet squirrel on a 4 feet stand. You can also email your pictures taken with Pearl to they will print it out and post it on the wall inside the store. Very friendly service, my friend bought a pound of mixed pecan for $ 16, they specially mixed it up for her, so she was happy.

I thoroughly enjoyed my shopping experience here. You have to take into consideration that it is a small, family-owned business. That comes with certain advantages and disadvantages: customer service is excellent and the employees are«nuts about pecans» but the prices are a little higher than you might like. I absolutely loved the variety of «Texas» items in the store, as well as the variety of «pecan» things. They didn’t have exactly the combination I was looking for, SOTHEYMADEIT for me on the spot. And, what’s more, they offered to do it. I didn’t ask them. You just can’t beat that level of service. I will definitely be going back!

I can’t even count the number of times I have passed this and wanted to venture inside. Who could possibly see that giant squirrel statue outside and think«nah, I’ll pass.» I was FINALLY able to go in this weekend on a trip to Bastrop. Everything about the store is pecan centered. Obviously. The greeter was incredibly friendly and we had the option to try samples before buying, which was nice! We ended up getting the variety pack which had Milk Chocolate Covered Pecans, White Chocolate Pecans, and Honey Glazed Pecans. I was a fan of the chocolate covered ones, but not so much the honey glazed. We also got a Chocolate Pecan Pie which was good the first day, a little too sweet for my taste, and not so good the day after. The pecans had formed some kind of syrup that made the pie loose shape a bit. And the other thing we got was the Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramel Popcorn. I think if the chocolate had been milk, the dark was a little too bitter, it would have been perfect. I don’t think anything about the place was bad, it was all just very ordinary. The only other thing I had a problem with was that the prices were pretty high. I know that nuts are normally a little pricey, but some things were unnecessarily expensive. It’s definitely a place to stop in, should you ever pass by. They also had a 24⁄7 pecan vending machine outside which was pretty neat!

A great place to buy pecans! This place is a quirky fun landmark between Bastrop and Austin. I saw the giant red sign that said PECANS and thought, «huh… that’s weird. Oh well.» Then I saw the giant squirrel out front. So I had to go in. Glad I did! Staff were helpful and friendly, talking about plain pecans, dark vs. milk chocolate covered pecan brittle, popular pecan flavorings, etc. Those pecan pies looked and smelled amazing. They also looked and smelled like money at $ 17 a pie. I walked out with a $ 14 bag of honey glazed pecans, which is their bestseller for a reason. Yum. The brittle: I’m a big fan of peanut brittle, peppermint bark, etc. This brittle I couldn’t quite get on board: pecans were too meaty for the thinness of the brittle, and there was a little too thick a layer of chocolate, which masked the flavors. But I suggest you try it yourself.

I have driven by this place too many times and decided to stop to check out what they sell at what some people call a tourist trap. I get out of my car and first notice a vending machine that not only spits out pecans, but pecan pies as well. Once I walk in, the girls working there welcome you nicely and you see pecans items everywhere. I fully explored this store and besides pecans they also sell touristy items. It is definitely a worthy stop to check out. I did buy some chocolate covered pecans which tasted good. Apparently they sell different types of pecans and can ask for a sample to taste the difference. It looked like a nice local business and I hope others stop by. Plus they have a huge squirrel out front to take photos with.

When I drive to Austin, I always pass this place with the HUGE tall sign that flashes«Pecans!». So, I finally had to stop and see what this place was about. The outside does not do it justice. The inside is packed full of gifts and friendly staff. We walked in and were warmly greeted by a bunch of different people working there. We looked at all of the different pecan items and got some pecan brittle and candied pecans. In addition to the pecan gifts, there are Christmas ornaments, UT/A&M stuff, goofy red neck gifts, and more! There were free samples of fudge and all of the pecans. We ended up with some different pecan treats for work. The BEST part of this place is the 24 hour vending machine outside that dispenses pecan treats as well as whole pecan pies. I almost wanted to purchase a pie to see how the machine actually spits it out. Very novel.

I go to Austin often and I always see their huge sign advertising pecans from miles away. I had always thought about stopping, but never really had the time. On my last trip to Austin, I stopped with my mom to check it out. This is a medium size store that sells all kinds of souvenirs and pecan products. The ladies that work the counter are very friendly and helpful. We were immediately asked if we had ever been there before, and when we said no, the lady gave us some interesting information. This is a family owned farm that covers a few acres behind the store. they make their own pecan products including the pies. I purchased some honey roasted, white chocolate and dark chocolate pecans. I also purchased some honey. The prices are definitely a little steep. The small bags of pecans run $ 14.95 a piece and the honey was $ 6.95 for one pound. When I made it to Austin I showed my friend the honey and she told me she buys that same«local» brand at Walmart for $ 3! Darn, I could have kicked myself! The pecans were delicious and so was the honey, but I wouldn’t pay that much for either again. If you are from out of town and want some souvenirs, you’ll surely find some nice ones there!

«I think it is called Will Lane.» — one of the three extremely beautiful women working at Berdoll Pecan Farms on Highway 71. «Will?» — me, with rapt curiosity, completely distracted by her beauty. «I think it is CALLED Will Lane.» — Berdoll woman, kindly trying to point me in the right direction of Little Thailand for lunch. «It is called… Will… Lane?» — me, feeling like I am learning a new language in a foreign country and saying the same word over and over and over and not getting it right. «No, CALLED Will Lane.» — her, beginning to raise her voice. «Oh, so it is called Will Lane.» me, while thinking, «who the fuck is on first» and, «do NOT start yelling at me about the name of a street, it is NOT that big of a deal» and, «Merde, our first fight.» «Yes, CALLEDWILL. LANE. That is it.» –her, looking at me like I am a Martian who has just landed here, guided by her overly high and bright red, blinking neon sign that speaks my real language, «CHOCOLATE…COVERED…PECANS», but that is all the English that I know. I am a Martian for god’s sake, come here to eat chocolate covered pecans and drive you crazy while I am still learning your fucking language. Actually, sit down here before I zap you with my gun, you WILL teach me your language! «Oh, Caldwell Lane?» –me, laughing. «Yes, and I think it’s pretty easy to miss.» –her.
