We absolutely love this fantastic family joint. The staff are beyond friendly and the food is always outstanding. If you’re driving through Cedar Crest(even if you’re not) Burger Boy is a MUST! An East Mountain staple!

I went in expecting one of the best burgers in NM. Not even close! My cheese burger was way over cooked and dried out. Bland was a good word for it. No seasoning at all. The veggies were crisp and decent and the bun was good. I thought they pressed their own meat here. It sure didn’t taste like it. My wife’s pork tenderloin sandwich had two big burn marks on it. And I’ve seen better fries at McD’s. The place was very clean and the employees friendly. Would I come back? NO just not worth the trip. The best burger in NM is still at Buckhorn Tavern in San Antonio with Griff’s in Albuquerque a close second.

In the Springtime of my 33rd year I traveled to the Land of Enchantment on a calling to become an authority on the Green Chile Cheeseburger. With the«Famous the World over» chiles, and the numerous cattle ranches around the state, this regionally accented dish is the perfect vessel to showcase the beauty that is New Mexican cuisine. Im my beef and bun travels throughout the state I made sure I hit both the value and gourmand ends of the spectrum in my hunt for the finest. Burger Boy certainly lands on the value side. A nice family style joint that offers a decent burger for the price point. The serve yourself chocolate cookies and friendly atmosphere left me with fond memories, but the restaurant rates a step down from the heavy hitters I found along the way. #10 of 12 on my Green Chile Cheeseburger trail of tears.

I kept hearing about this place being voted the«best burger in New Mexico», though I’d never even heard of it. Yesterday evening, we had no other plans, so we decided to make the drive out from Albuquerque to try their burgers. It’s a tiny, hole-in-the-wall place, but I kind of like that about the atmosphere, and often times it’s the little places where you can find some of the best food. You place your order at the counter, then take a seat. I should have gone with my gut instinct and ordered a chile burger, but I love a good mushroom Swiss burger, so I ordered that. My husband ordered a red chile burger with a side of green. There were no tables available, so we took a seat at the counter by the food prep area. The food took a lot longer to come out than I would have expected for this style of restaurant, but they were pretty busy, so I wanted to cut them some slack. When we got our food, I couldn’t wait to dive in and taste the best burger in New Mexico. The good news, is that the meat tasted very fresh. We watched them press the patties by hand. They don’t use any frozen meat here, which is great. Unfortunately, my burger was a little on the bland side. The meat wasn’t seasoned much, so as fresh as it was, my burger failed to «wow» me, so I felt it didn’t live up to the title of the best burger in the state. Also, they put refrigerator cold veggies on top of the meat which cooled it down too quickly. I tried a bite of my husband’s red chile burger and it was so much better than mine. The red chile was very good and added the flavor that the burger needed. His side of green chile was also served refrigerator cold, though. The fries were excellent and the iced tea was fresh, too. Previous reviews have mentioned how friendly the staff was, but I think we must have visited on an off night. It’s a family who runs the place, which is awesome, and I know sometimes things can get tense when working with family, but while we were watching them prep the food, there was a lot of bickering and arguing going on between the staff, and aside from when we placed our order and our food and drinks were delivered, they didn’t really interact with us, though to be fair they were pretty slammed. When we left, I said«thank you» to the cashier, but no one responded or acknowledged us as we were leaving. I wouldn’t mind going back and trying a chile burger for myself sometime, and hopefully we’ll catch the staff on a better day.

Named best burgers in the State. After I seen this on the news I got a rumbling in my tummy and wanted to give it a try. Headed out here on a Sunday afternoon to try it out. Let me just say this: plan on being here a while. From the time we ordered our food, it took almost an hour for it to arrive. The restaurant has that good ol’ hamburger shop of the past feel to it. Kinda vintage looking inside. The staff was extremely friendly and treated us well throughout our visit which was a huge plus. Now about the food. I tried a green chile double cheeseburger with a side of onion rings and a shake. All the food was good and portions were huge. Not that bad of a price either. Now as far as being the best hamburger in the state? I don’t really agree. The burgers were good but I honestly didn’t think there was anything special about them that set them apart from the rest. I actually thought it was a little bit bland in flavor. I think that as far as flavor goes, you’re better off with a Lotaburger. I came, I tried, and now I have reviewed. Would eat it again if I were in the area but I don’t think I’ll be making any more special trips out here for it.

We decided to eat at Burger Boy today on our way back from Madrid, New Mexico. We didn’t regret it but we didn’t exactly do cart wheels over it either. Over all, it’s a mom and pop — divey little restaurant that doesn’t seem to be hurting for business whatsoever. We stopped there because others have touted they make the best Green Chili Burgers in New Mexico. It wasn’t a bad burger at all — but the best? Not quite. The fries and onion rings were great tho. Crispy, hand cut, fresh and delicious. The Patty Melt was good as well but didn’t come with mustard on it. But, I suppose we could have asked for it. They were just so busy we didn’t want to disturb the busy staff. Their clientele is mostly hunters and locals. They’re obviously regulars since the staff seemed to know most by name and what they wanted long before they ordered. That’s always a good sign. Anyway, the entire staff were great, extremely polite and helpful. Also, very appreciative of our business. My only complaint was that our order took 20 minutes. But again, the place was seriously packed and they were all doing their best to please. Also, their prices were a little pricy for such a rinky dink business. Our meager order came to $ 23.00 +. The guy behind us ordered for 4 and his bill came to over $ 60.00. He didn’t complain so I suppose I shouldn’t either. We watched from the bar while orders constantly came out. Their breakfast burritos looked great, were large and constantly ordered. All in all, we’ll go back if ever in the area again but, we wouldn’t exactly crave it and drive the long distance back there. But, again, we really had no regrets.

Make no mistake… do not pass this place without stopping to eat. Breakfast burrito is the«go to» for us to pick up on the way to town. Cut in half allows me to share. Burgers outstanding. The taco plate is over the top. Take your pick off the menu and enjoy it!

I’m an East Mountain local. Born, raised, and still residing in Sandia Park, New Mexico. I have always enjoyed Burger Boy’s burgers, their Frito pies, and their corndogs. Until recently I had never tried their breakfast. My sister and I stopped in a couple mornings to enjoy it in-house, their breakfast burritos are fabulous, Gram knows how to cook perfect eggs(she can cook everything perfectly), and their homemade biscuits — TODIEFOR! This morning I picked up a breakfast sandwich to go, and I realized«why haven’t I been doing this my entire life?“to put it simply; I blame my parents. To put it even more simply; this is my new breakfast go to place. Now, how can I join the family?

Fun little local find in the east mountains. We met some family here for a brunch and we really enjoyed our meal and experience. The staff is beyond friendly and makes an effort to get to know everyone. It felt like eating at my grandma’s house for dinner. Just coming off of Whole 30, I opted for a veggie burrito and the staff allowed me to have a side of sweet potato fries. This was a delicious combination. My entire family enjoyed their meals. We will be back next time we are in town!

Really good burgers! I got the double meat green chile cheeseburger and fries. This burger was HUGE and delicious! I think a single burger would be sufficient for most. The fries were good too. I went with coworkers and we all had the same thing. One plans on bringing his wife this weekend from the west side! I did see on the menu board that they offer gluten free buns for an extra $ 2 so will have to bring my wife here. Great stop if you are ever in Cedar Crest or worth the drive if you’re nearby. Will definitely visit again

This place has the nicest people and probably the best burger to chow down on in all of New Mexico. The saddest part of my day is when my burger is gone.

Great greasy burgers, and fantastic shakes. Reminds me of some classic small town burger joints I frequented growing up in Washington State. Very cool. May not be a daily health menu item, but damn does it feel good after a long hike! Service is extremely unfriendly here… the older woman who runs the joint I believe mentally checked out decades ago. The place isn’t all that clean, but it is a greasy burger joint so it can have a pass on that. They really should consider investing some money in to the building before it falls apart though.

This little local owned gem is a must eat. If your going to the crest on a scenic drive or hell just hungry make a short trip to Cedar Creat and have a mind blowing burger. This is old school burger at its finest no fancy smanchy stuff here. My review may possibly get updated to a 5star upon my next visit. I was unable to try the green chili cheese burger or a milkshake. I believe this may launch them to the extra star. Also on the menu is a fried pork loin sandwich. These are a Midwest thing and are quite delicious if prepared correctly. Needless this is a rare find out west but especially in NM! Needless I cannot wait for my next visit for some more mouth watering goodness. My only question is why this couldn’t have been in the yearly Unilocal burger binge week as a stop or event local?! However I’ll push for it to be next year!

It isn’t often that I eat a burger so good that I’m sad when it’s gone. Burger Boy is a small, family owned spot in Cedar Crest… And it’s a diamond in the rough! I had a cheeseburger with onion rings, hubby had a cheese burger with fries. The burgers were juicy and cooked perfectly, the cheese was melty cheesy goodness, the onion rings had the perfect batter to onion ratio, crunch factor, and flavor profile. I only had a couple of the hub’s french fries but they were exactly the way I like them– crunchy and not too salty. We aren’t out east too often, but we’ll be back Burger Boy. I need to try one of those milkshakes I saw, and frito pie!
