Happiness is… A Rotisserie Turkey BLT with heirloom tomatoes, truffle fries and bread pudding. Oh my amaretto caramel sauce. The food at cafè duè was excellent and the ambiance wonderful! The portions were just right and the menu is full of great ingredients. If you like your bacon thick, this is the place to go. The truffle oil is pungent on the fries, it took a little getting used to I must admit. But very distinct flavor

When you enter Café Due, you are impressed with the high end atmosphere. The gleaming granite bar and the tables are set with real linens. When you go back into the other room, it’s a bright, comfortable room with cushy chairs and a welcoming set of the biggest leather sofas. The tapestries on the stone walls are magnificent and the fireplace makes the open space warm and homey. But… as you check out the surroundings, things are starting to fall apart. The chair cushions are simply filthy and the fabric is unraveling. Table cloths and napkins are pilling and are also filled with lint, pet hair, short human hair. My original table cloth had lovely set of red, long curly locks. I was losing my appetite as it was like finding strange hairs in my soap. I asked to change to a table without linens and the server graciously helped me move as the other tables were just as dirty. I asked for some paper napkins and was told they didn’t have any by the supervisor. My server rescued me with some cocktail napkins. The Kobe Burger and fries I ordered were good. The burger was cooked to the right temp and was one of the best burgers I’ve had. It had the flavor of a good steak and was lightly seasoned with salt and pepper. My final complaint was that the fries came in a cute metal pail which I’m sure we’ve seen in lots of places. However as I got to the bottom of the pail, I saw that it was VERY rusty. Blah. The supervisor did apologize for the issues. My bill for the burger, coke and fries was 18.00.

Had lunch with two friends recently. One of my friends and I had the lettuce wraps. The quality was good as was the coleslaw I had with it. The portion size was small especially for the price. Server was pleasant but service was slow. I had to stop at McDonalds for a sandwich about an hour later. I am glad Tony has opened this place and applaud the effort. Décor is nice and lunch crowd was good. I hope this place does well. I feel it’s a welcome addition to the Cedar Valley.

I have been eating at Due since it opened. The food has always been great. They take me way out of my food comfort zone but the will make my sandwiches the way I want, NEVER a problem. The brunches have been to die for. What has taken me over the top was the Thanksgiving takeout feast. Best thing I have ever done everything was 5 star. The only negative things are slow serve times and sometimes less than good wait staff. But if you want food not found in this metro area you can find it here.

Wine list is great. $ 23 for 4 scallops on a plate as an appetizer is worst deal in town. Flatbread is great at $ 12 bucks.

been here a couple times now. honestly, pretty meh in my opinion. cool idea, glad they kept the bar from my verona, but food is very mediocre(especially for the price). three stars for the service, they are incredibly nice and have taken good care of us.

Well, I really wanted to like this place when I heard it was opening. The prior establishment was probably the best restaurant in town, so I was hoping they could carry on the tradition. Nope. While the menu choices suggest artful and even eclectic preparation, the quality is more like slightly upscale Applebee’s meets Olive Garden. To be clear, the dinner was not terrible, just disappointing. Sliders, pasta, steak, OK. I would avoid the brunch, though. The quiche was the worst I have ever tasted, basically scrambled eggs in a little bowl, dry and flavorless. If you can’t cook something right, best to take it off the menu.(With Croisant du jour in Cedar Rapids closed I think La Mie in Des Moines is the last place to get good quiche in Iowa.)

Experience was less than great. I found a hair in my soup and was still charged for it after I brought it to the attention of our waiter. Service was mediocre. Drinks took a long time to arrive, even though we were one of four tables seated. The manager walked by our table at least 6 times and never bothered to stop and ask how our visit was. I stopped him and asked if was the manager and he said yes, then he replied with«were you wondering why I was on the phone». I replied no. Then he just walked away– did not say thanks or anything. I won’t be going there again for lunch. Bad service and food was not spectacular for the price.

The service started out slow when they first opened however I came back for a Sunday brunch a month or so later and everything was great. Delicious eggs Benedict and mimosa :)

Stopped for lunch — the food was fantastic. Great squash soup. I had the Pastrami sandwich and Goat Cheese cake. It was all great! I sat at the bar, the service was fantastic.

Sunday Brunch #1 Called a couple days ahead for a table for 3, the woman answering was less then professional. When asking for a table more away from other tables, hmmm… like she didn’t get it, and not sure they could accommodate that. Then I said we just don’t want to be set in the middle of the room. She had to go check and then came back and said that would be OK. When we got there, maybe 20% of the restaurant was full? #2 We were set quickly and then things went downhill. Took awhile to get service. Asked about a bowl of fruit for us to share and if they had that, he said yes. Finally came back with a tiny amount of fruit in a bowl. I then said that was a bowl fruit to share, he said that’s all we had. That is why I asked in the first place if they had a large bowl of fruit. I then ordered the pastry fruit plate since we already had the fruit I said just bring out the pastries too. They were 3 plain croissants, guess I was thinking danish, frosting, etc not bread. They were good though and warm. Getting a cocktail napkin anywhere these days with a drink seems unheard of, nothing to lay your garnish on or stirrer. Asked for jam and the whole gross jar was brought, it was 2/3rds empty and had crumbs and butter in it from someone else. Who does this? #3 The food was a 5, burnt bacon, not well done but burnt, quiche was dry, asked for no potatoes, got them anyway. Dessert cake was a large piece and good but a bit dry. Server was never around, didn’t check right away to see if everything was alright, didn’t clear the table as we went. Just a real disappointment. The service was the biggest drawback, may want to get into another line of work. The manger needs to be more on top of the restaurant for it to survive. Have heard dinner service are better then breakfast service. It’s not cheap so they need to get things in order as it could be a fab place. Tony’s restaurants seem to have an issue with bad service and skimping with food. Our pizzas at Tonys are so sparse when it comes to ingredients and the service has always been sub par except for a bright spot now and then. Both places need to give more service, larger portions for what you pay.

I’m somewhat disturbed by the reviews I’m reading from others… Either they are reviewing a different place or things were far different for them than for us during our visit yesterday. My family of 4 arrived around lunch time on Saturday. We planned to have lunch but found most of the menu to be brunch items which was ok for us. My son had the French Toast which was far from average and was devoured in record time… came with a nice portion of fresh fruit. My wife had the Croqueu Madam, it was a fantastic breakfast sandwich(she used explicit language to describe it). I had the All American Breakfast, it was basically your typical eggs, potatoes and meat but I thought it was far from average. From the restaurant name and menu items I found that the theme was a nice mix of French and Italian… Along with some American influence. The bar also had a nice selection. I’d like to come back for dinner and try the other menu items, we’ll be back for sure. Although Main Street Cedar Falls has many solid choices, I’d suggest giving Due a chance!

Went on a Sunday for early lunch. We were sat promptly but waited a little long for someone to take our drink order. Our server was friendly but you could tell he was not very experienced. I ordered an Omelet and the wife had a breakfast sandwich. Food was above average but the service was poor at best. We had coffee with our meals and it was brought out in a very little coffee pot. Enough to fill our cups once. It took quite a while to get a refill. We waited a long time for the check and then waited again for the server to check us out. Will probably try it again but if the service is the same it will be the last time.

We were really excited to try out Café Due and made a reservation for our family of 5 for my wife’s birthday. We arrived a few minutes ahead of our reservation to find out from the hostess that our table had been given away by mistake and would we mind squeezing into a table for 4. Not happy but we’ll let that one pass. After checking out the menu online we were disappointed to find out that only the brunch menu was available on Sunday — no mention of this on their web site. The brunch menu was very limited but we made due. Three of us had the Steak Frites and the steak was good but the portions were inconsistent — my son had twice as much steak as my daughter. My wife had the Kobe burger ordered med rare and it came out closer to med well. My other son had the steak & eggs and that was ok. We also ordered Eggs Benedict to share and that was easily the best item we had. Our server was attentive but the service was very slow! It took almost an hour to get our food and the place wasn’t that busy. I will give Café Due another shot on a day when the full menu is available and hopefully that will better.

I think once they decide what they want to be when they grow up, this will be a stellar addition to the handful of non-pub fare restaurants in the CV. Are you a tapas place? Not really. Are you a traditional café? No. Are you a fine dining establishment with a full fare? No, not really. Having lived in many places and having eaten in many tapas places, it is not what I expected. Tapas are by definition appetizers of Spanish cuisine. That’s not what you get here. I have to say that I really enjoyed the price fixe menu on the weekend. It’s something different. I might have the chef look to great tapa places for menu ideas. There is nothing like sitting around a table of friends sharing numerous good tapas and a bottle of wine. This place isn’t there yet. Couple issues: Reservations? I would make them. It doesn’t mean a lot in the length of the wait, but might help. There is no waiting area for the crowds that attend to pop up waiting for a table. Work on the seating — you can handle a bigger seating number but perhaps that’s all the kitchen can handle, so okay, maybe that’s it. I hope they find a direction that will appeal to enough people that they stay open. It’s a tough business, but we are in desperate need of «something different» once they figure out what that«different» is supposed to be.

We have been searching Cedar Falls, Waterloo, and Iowa City for a decent restaurant. This is not the only decent restaurant we found, but so far the best! It’s been hard to find a good vegetarian option. We had the arugula Apple salad, risotto balls, and one of their vegetarian pizzas with two handcrafted cocktails. The food was flavorful and marvelously presented. Very fresh! The atmosphere was classy. The cocktails were uniquely good… Better than what we could find and Iowa City! This is a restaurant built for quality, not quantity. But… The prices were really good given the type of restaurant! We got out for $ 65 including Tip and dessert. Could have easily paid over $ 100+ in a bigger city.

3rd time here. Last time good… this time not good. Simple order of 2 sandwiches. Spouse ordered Turkey Rueben… waitress delivered a Turkey BLT. Was pointed out that a Reuben includes sour kraut etc. Soooo… waitress A) Does not offer to get order corrected. B) brings a glob of sour kraut. C) Has no clue what customer satisfaction means D) does nothing to remedy the situation. I get it, if the staff doesn’t know the difference between a BLT and a Rueben whattya going to do? Easy, go somewhere else for a $ 10.00 sandwich. Young service staff… running about with ZERO management in place. Other places that get it. we will go there.

After 90 minutes of waiting on a slow Sunday it was hard to enjoy the food. Our waitress Emily did a great job trying to cover for a slow kitchen and a manager who never did have the courtesy to come apologize to us. Very disappointing. There are plenty of other great options on Main Street Cedar Falls to enjoy.

Overpriced for the food quality. I had the«Kobe» burger, it was the most bland tasting burger I’ve ever had. We arrived right after the rush and it still took them an hour and a half to get our food out. Once our food came out, I noticed they forgot the fried egg I had ordered as a topping for the burger. I told the waitress about it and she came back with an over done fried egg. I also ordered the side salad, which ended up literally being a few pieces of lettuce wrapped in a slice of cucumber. As a waitress that’s something I believe you need to let the patron know about while the order is being taken. The restaurant itself is very nice, but the food is not. Don’t bother wasting your time or money at this place. There is plenty of good dining in the cedar valley this just happens to not be one of them.
