I used to really like this place. Their chips and salsa are amazing and they have good happy hour deals on drinks. The last few times I’ve been, the service has been bad and the whole place just felt«dirty». The hardest working people here are the older guys who clear the tables. The last time we were there, our appetizer arrived after we were about halfway done with our meals and she never came back with my second beer. Too many other places to pick from out there… save your money.

If I could give zero stars I would I told my family about this places reviews so we wanted to try it. The girl in the front said she could seat a part of 7 because they close at 9 it was 8:20. But she had about 3 more parties of 4 people each which she had no problem seating. She was very rude blonde girl in the front who was like um no I can’t seat your party cuz we close at nine but seats 3 parties of four. we are very considerate and were gonna eat and leave but I don’t thing I’d go again

It’s unassuming on the outside; a coral building in a strip mall. And I admit I went at a slow time. But the service was friendly and quick. The food was great; a far cry from the canned queso and grease crowd. I had the Santa Fe enchiladas, and the smoky red chile sauce was delicious. Don’t overlook this one.

I hadn’t been to this location in a year or so. I can’t say that much has changed. On 4.21.16 I tried out a lunch special and was happy they still had lunch after 2 p.m. The chips at this place are highly addictive. I don’t what drugs are mixed in the recipe or sprinkled on topp but I can eat a whole basket. My enchiladas were not bad at all. Good size chunks of meat and nice hot queso. My rice was decent but the beans were left on my plate. I can’t recall my waitress name but she was on it. Nothing really changed with the place and that’s fine with me.

I do like Texican, don’t get me wrong. I gave their South Austin location four stars. This location and my two experiences here have just been… meh. Now we all know, given my other review, that I love Texican’s tortilla soup. It is truly fantastic. I think I should just stick with that always because I’ve not been a big fan of the other items I’ve tried. This most recent visit was partially my fault. I decided to try to be adventurous and order something new, so I ordered the Enchiladas Diablo. It said it was spicy, so I wanted to try it, despite the fact that I don’t like fajita meat. I got chicken and I wasn’t a fan of the chicken, but that’s on me, not on Texican. I willingly ordered something I potentially wasn’t going to like. Most people would says that’s stupid, but I was trying to be adventurous. The enchiladas came with sour cream, which I was fine with on principle, but they came with way too much sour cream. No one should eat that much sour cream ever. The sauce wasn’t spicy, either. That could have been because of how much sour cream there was, but I didn’t really taste any hint of spice. Then again, I like my food crazy spicy, so maybe you’ll find it spicy. I got black beans, which were okay. They weren’t terrible, but they weren’t great, either. I felt the same way about the rice. Essentially, I left a lot of food on my plate, and that rarely happens with Tex-Mex. Next was my Mexican martini. It was served to me in a very dirty glass — like how did you not notice it had food crusted all over it? It was also very weak. I drank that whole shaker and didn’t even feel tipsy — not normal. A Mexican martini should definitely make me feel tipsy after finishing it — especially an entire shaker. So to feel nothing — was there even any alcohol in my drink? It was also crazy dark in here, like they were hosting a bunch of vampires. Then again, this is Austin, so maybe they were. I still like Texican and I’ll still be back, I just know now to stick to my trusty tortilla soup and hope that next time I have a different bartender.

Great Mexican food here! Love the atmosphere, always clean, and great service. I have ordered many different plates here and all have been delicious. The cheese enchiladas with guiso on top are a must try! Queso and drinks are fabulous!!!

Finally some enchiladas with actual chile sauce and corn tortillas!!! Not being from Austin I always wanted a enchilada like the ones I am used to back home. After being disappointed at a few other spots, I was very delighted to see a familiar dish at this restaurant. I ordered the El Paso cheese enchiladas dish. Now yes I will admit the sauce is not spicy like I am used to, but they are very tasty. I always come here when I need a enchilada fix. I wish they made the tostadas in house. And sometimes the retried beans are bland. But the charro beans are always good.

I found Texican on the Gluten-free app. I am so glad I did. I love their thin, white cotn tortillas, the atmosphere, the professional staff, and how the most simple dish here tastes AMAZING! «Full of flavor» is how I would describe their dishes… every one that I have tried any how. I highly recommend this place.

I’ve always had good, friendly service here, almost-cold beer, and hit-or-miss food. The good: stick with anything covered in sauce, cheese, sour cream and guacamole, Megas, queso and tortillas. The bartenders are always friendly and they have $ 3.00 Dos at HH. The ok: cool beer(not cold) dry, unseasoned chicken and mediocre salsa.

Somewhat bland Tex-Mex redeemed by some reasonable all-day breakfast food items. I’ve been here 4 times with roughly similar results: Pros: * Generally good service * Good for groups Cons: * Nothing I’ve eaten here was anything but adequate save for the migas I can’t figure out if the interior decoration belongs on the cons list. Certainly it’s lame but I can’t tell if it’s bad or not. I definitely wouldn’t take a date here.

Had lunch there yesterday, almost left before server came to welcome us, took her at least 8 minutes and another server checked on us and sent her over. Had to ask for chips and salsa. She pulled the wrong meal and served it to me, and son’s cheeseburger had mustard and mayo on it, not plain as requested. Sent both meals back and new ones came out quickly. Daughter’s order was the only one correctly prepared. Never going back, total waste of $ 35.

When my co-workers and I go out for happy hour, we sometimes end up here at Texican Café. However, I think I’m going to try to talk everyone into picking another Mexican food joint from now on. The past 3 visits, we’ve had abysmal service. Granted, we come here for happy hour on Fridays, and we’re there from around 5pm — 8pm. I know this is a peak time for restaurants, so I’m not quite expecting stellar service. However, our service has just been plain bad these last few visits. The hostesses are always nice, and seat us quickly. We usually have a group of 8 – 12 people, and tend to get seated in the same area over by the bar. The server will come over and get our drink orders quickly… but then things fall apart. It takes a very long time for our drinks to come out. I know it’s a Friday, and the bar’s busy, but 30 minutes seems a bit extreme. Once the drinks are brought out, the server disappears, and then it takes another 20 minutes before we can find him/her again to take our food orders. At that point, it takes another 30 – 40 minutes for our food to come out. By then, we’ve already finished our drinks and want another round… and the whole process starts all over again. We’d probably drink more alcohol if we didn’t have to wait so long between drinks. We usually all stop at 2 drinks and call it a night because of the slow service.(And we work in the corporate insurance industry, so we like finding reasons to drink, and we can seriously knock down lots of alcohol after a long week… Texican Café is missing an opportunity to make lots of money off of us.) The only reason this place is getting 2 stars instead of 1 is because they’re nice and fry some flour tortillas to make chips for my friend/co-worker who has a corn allergy. Anyway, I think we’re done with this place. They might be great during non-peak times, but I’ll never know. :(

My hubs and I decided to take my sister from out of state to go out to eat at the Texican Café. We ordered the Wednesday night special which was half price off on certain enchiladas. My sister and I both had the Sour Cream Enchiladas —They were DELICIOUS!!! We also had the four sampler Margarita’s– which is always yummy! My husband ordered the Texican Nacho which was also a good choice! The only complaint that we had was our server… We felt rushed. Other than that it was Awesome!!!

Hostess is really nice. Food comes out super quick. Waiter was MIA most the time. Don’t expect to get a refill while you eat. Portions are enormous! Food was okay. Shredded chicken was dry and had no flavor, but shrimp enchilada was excellent. Burrito especiale was really delicious. Prices are inexpensive. Great place to feed the whole family for cheap & still get decent food.

Texican has become a consistent choice for my fiancé and me when we are looking for good, well priced tex-mex with minimal wait during dinner time on weekends. Texican has a very extensive menu, including a brunch menu as well. However, we generally get the same thing every time we go there. He always orders the burrito especial — which is an enormous burrito with you choice of meat, slathered with queso and drizzled with diced tomatoes and sour cream with a healthy side of beans and rice. It is extremely filling and in many cases, tough for him to finish. I generally order the shrimp fajitas. The shrimp are cooked well and they serve a healthy portion. I have also tried the pork and eggs for brunch which was pretty delicious as well. Texican is nothing fancy, but it’s good dependable tex mex. I highly recommend it!

Pretty OK Tex-Mex. Definitely didn’t blow my socks off, but it wasn’t bad either. Parking: easy– huge lot Ambiance: Casual, good for groups. Not very intimate unless you get a booth. I like the ambiance better than Dos Salsas on 1431. Kid-friendly. Drinks: Frozen Margaritas are pretty standard. La Morada Margarita was tasty– I prefer that over just a standard margarita. Decently strong. But definitely prefer Trudy’s Mexican Martinis over those anyday. Food: $ 10 – 18 a plate. Chips– skip. I prefer the thin & crispy ones at Chuy’s or Hula Hut. These were the yellow, thick-cut-your-mouth, grocery store brand kind. Queso– skip. I was not a fan– tasted like Velveeta with a few peppers in it. Quesadillas– pretty good. Standard white cheese & generous filling. Good as an appetizer to share or as an entrée for one person. $ 11 Fajitas– came on a sizzling platter. $ 17 combo platter. Very decent beef & shrimp fajitas. Green bell peppers & onions were thinly sliced, which was great– so they cook all the way through on the sizzling plate. Beef was tender & juicy. Shrimp were on the smaller size but ok for the price. Comes with rice or beans. Also comes with guacamole, sour cream, pico, cheddar cheese. Flour tortillas were soft & yummy(not dry & not too thick). They also have a lettuce wrap option! Perfect for 2 ladies to share. As long as the price doesn’t change, I would come back for these.

We’ve(my wife and two children) been here more than once and this time will be our last. Our service from top to bottom was sub par. From the«hostess» who never once greeted us and the server who really wished he could be somewhere else. For a place that doesn’t apparently care much about providing great food, I’d hope they would care a little about providing something close to service.

I stopped in here for lunch yesterday with my Mom and we had a decent experience. It was around 1pm, after the lunch rush and they were still fairly busy. We were told it would be about a 10 – 15 minute wait and were given a pager. One plus, is that they have plenty of places to sit and wait. In under 10 minutes, a table was ready for us and we were seated at a nice table overlooking their outdoor patio. Our waitress was along shortly and took our drink orders. Service was honestly a bit slow between bringing drinks, taking our order, food coming out, and getting the check back,(she dropped it off while we were eating which was great but took forever to get it back). I ordered the Texican Nachos with chicken. They were huge, and they were decent. Some of the chips tasted a little bit stale, but besides that I really like them. My Mom ordered the chicken tortilla soup. She asked the waitress how spicy it was because on the menu it said, «zesty and spicy». The waitress recommended it with the«red sauce» on the side, which my Mom agreed to. Unfortunately after her meal came, she decided to put a little bit of the red sauce in her soup and it was so hot that she basically couldn’t eat any of it. It was her own fault for not trying the red sauce first. Our waitress apologized, but didn’t ask if my Mom wanted to order anything else. My nachos were huge, so we shared those. The atmosphere was nice — like I said, plenty of seating for waiting — which included some plants which was nice. The dining room seemed decent, as well as the outdoor patio. They had a very extensive menu full of good options and everything was decently fresh. I’d like to come back and try more things. Three stars for now!

The waitress suggested a new dish, carne chile colorado. It was surprisingly excellent. I am a hard core enchiladas or nachos person. So i was very sceptical. I rarely try new foods. This dish will now go on my rotation list.

I remembered hearing about a 2 for $ 19.99 dinner special on Thursday’s, so when my husband and I got in the car this evening to get our neighborhood hooligans. I mean lovely children… Halloween candy, I suggested eating here since we were already out. It was better than I imagined it would be! First off, the chips are utter perfection. I could NOT stop inhaling them. An appetizer was included in our dinner special so we got the queso maya which has salsa and guacamole stirred into it. Sounds weird but don’t be scared! It was delicious. The entrée choices seemed to go on for days. The enchiladas alone were starting to sound like Bubba in Forest Gump; we have the Santa Fe, El Paso, Chipotle, Spinach, Green Chili, Enchilada Verde… you catch my drift. I got the green chili enchiladas which had a lovely heat that snuck up on me after a few bites. They came with Refried beans, rice, and pico and the plate was big enough to feed a family of 4. It’s a whole lot of food for $ 20. My husband had the Santa fe enchiladas that came in a red chili sauce that looked spicy but was surprisingly mild. Neither of us could finish anything that was brought to the table, except 9 refill baskets of chips that is. Such a great deal this was. Anytime I can get good food for little money, it makes me one happy chica. Thanks Texican!
