Unilocal definitely led us astray on this one. The lamb isn’t particularly well seasoned and the sauce is a bland, runny sauce that tastes more like mayo than greek yogurt. I suddenly understood why they asked if we wanted jalepinos on ours — it needs flavor from somewhere! Portion size was definitely big enough to satisfy anyone’s appetite. Fries were warm but basically unseasoned and not particularly good either. Wait was also a bit excessive — how can it take over 10 minutes to make a gyro and fries?! Definitely wouldn’t return, especially with some other options in the area.

This place is a little scary… the neighborhood is sketchy, and I would never set foot here at night but this is hands down the best effing gyro I have ever had in my life. The lamb was tender and juicy, seasoned well, and there’s so much of it. There’s no seating here, but who cares? Get your food to go, leave with money in your wallet because the prices are awesome and go down on this deliciousness in the privacy of your home.

Gyros are really good. The portion size is very generous and they’re not swimming in too much grease or too much sauce. The fries came hot and freshly made. There is no seating inside, so its to go only. The staff was very friendly and helpful.

Out of state and city opinion. This is a great place. Definitely recommend this place to eat

First time here, won’t be the last! The gyro was over filled with meat and the fries were hot. Don’t hesitate to stop in and order, your taste buds will thank you!

This is a corner store that whips up a killer gyro. They have other items as well but keep in mind, this is a corner store! This is a take out only place in a neighborhood that needs more visitors and some rejuvenation. Expect to be wowed for the money and expect a better gyro than that place in NewBo.

There is no seating and certainly no ambiance but if you want fresh homemade gyros, give this a try. I recommend calling in your order because this is take out only. If the Gyro Hut was a food truck many people might have a different impression?

Great food but it’s in the sketchy part of town. I would suggest coming during daylight orders and calling ahead. Not a place for kids to be waiting around in either if you’re concerned about foul language or drug talk from the other customers loitering around. Got a gyro and a cheeseburger. The value is great here you’ll leave feeling like you got a good deal. You can see in the back into the kitchen everything looks pretty clean and I believe the owner and his wife run this place.

Great little mom and pop shop. Heaping mound of meat on every gyro, and loaded with all the goods. The jalapeños add a great touch to this sand which. The pita itself was soft and tasted fresh. Definitely recommend to anyone that loves a good olé fashioned gyro!

All hail to the«hole-in-the-wall» family owned restaurants that do it Right! I called ahead for my lunch order that was hot and ready in minutes. Great if you’re short on time. The menu offers American fare as well.

City style gyro joint on the corner. I love gyros and this did not disappoint. Yummy heaps of meat, lettuce shreds, onion, tomato and jalapeño slathered with«gyro sauce,» stuff inside a quality pita. This is not a bistro, boutique gyro with chunky homemade tzatziki and feta, but what I would consider pop-in, grab a gyro on your way to the subway style: quick, hot and delicious. I hope the family can expand their operations and stick a table and some chairs inside. There is no place to sit, so everything is to-go, but that’s ok. Their website pricing, Unilocal pictures of menu and what’s presented on their board are all different, so add a $ 1 or $ 2 to what is online. They have a ton of a other menu options from catfish, wings, fried okra and polish sausage. Overall this is a great place to grab and go!

SOGOOD! My boyfriend and I decided to go here while we’re here apartment hunting. Incredible gyros! Kind of a shady location, and there’s no dine in area but definitely worth it! We will be coming back here for sure!

Seriously THEBEST gyro & philly we have had. Reasonably priced too! Our first time there, yes its in the old meat market building and yes not in the best part of town, but 100% worth going there. We will be back… maybe tomorrow even! :)

Horrible location. Hole in the wall type of place with no dine in and no advertising. With that said hands down the best Gyro in Cedar Rapids. Huge portion of quality lamb meat. Prices aren’t bad. They also deliver now.

Spending three months backpacking Europe really turned me on to gyros, but they also were so much better than the typical American gyro, that they kind of ruined them for me, if that makes sense. But the Gyro Hut, despite it’s extremely sketchy environs, truly delivered. It was definitely one of the best gyros I’ve had in the U.S. Strongly recommend checking this place out.

I recently visited and am happy to say everything was still perfect. Lots of tasty food at a terrific price. They have the best gyros in town. Great stuff. The neighborhood hasn’t changed any. I was approached by two panhandlers. It sure gives a person that south Chicago feel. Be careful in this neighborhood — I recommend going during daylight hours.

Major sketchy environment, at least by non 3rd world standards. I’m going to go out on a limb and suggest that a significant number of the folks hanging out here have some sort of active warrants. *IF* you can get past that(and some folks certainly will not), you will be rewarded with an amazing gyro probably the best I’ve ever had. Incredibly generous portion of lamb on a nice fresh pita for a reasonable price. The gyro is so good that I have never been even tempted to try any other dishes. The fries are also quite good. Note that I’d have easily given this place a 5th star for the food but the rough ambience of the place is rather pervasive. That being said, I can endure quite a bit for truly excellent chow. The place is pickup only and I definitely recommend calling ahead to minimize your exposure to said sketchy environment.

The food they serve in this tiny little building has to be made with magic. Their gyros rival those from my hometown of Chicago. Don’t let the questionable look to this run-down looking spot steer you away — and it may get crowded once you’re inside, but for good reason.

Pardon my gyro breath, I just finished another great gyro combo with everything. Since I’ve been on a quest lately for the the best gyrating meat sandwich, I needed to get another fix… and I’m glad I did. Gyro Hut easily wins the«Best Value» value award in the Corridor area. They really pack their soft pitas with long, thick juicy strips of Gyro meat and the perfect balance of onion, tomato, very little lettuce, tzatziki sauce and upon request hot peppers(bonus!). Still just $ 5.99 for the combo which includes fries and a can of pop. The fries are the ordinary frozen kind(The Flying Wienie is still the fresh cut fries champion). It’s the generous and yummy gyro that makes this the best value. They use Kronos brand gyro meat cooked on a spit or «cone». Better hold on to your wienies Cedar Rapids because Gryro Hut now has a Chicago style Polish sausage — just $ 3.99 for the combo meal!(See pic). I gotta try that on my next visit. What gets Gyro Hut the coveted 5th star is the local owner seems to really support the neighborhood. Much of their clientele is walk-in traffic from the surrounding area. He seems to genuinely care about his customers and is a positive influence in this inner city area. If they weren’t here, the building could easily be a payday loan place or tobacco/liquor store.
