I’d give this place NOSTARS if I could. Went there for the first time today on a whim… needless to say I won’t be returning, and I recommend anyone else to avoid this place like the plague. I ordered chicken tenders… but they were more like chicken JERKY. The biscuit was stale, and I can make better mac-n-cheese at home! The people that waited on me didn’t seem to care too much about their jobs or much about the customers. I don’t see this place staying open too much longer if they keep this up!

Went to popeyes for lunch and got their spicy wing 6piece combo. The wings are SUPER small! Also the people at the counter are very rude and did not answer questions about some of the specials that were not clear. The place was not busy and all the workers were frowning. The regular chicken strips were good and a lot better than when they first opened. I asked if I could get the 12 piece wings as well bc I was super hungry and the girl register told me it was not a combo. I proceeded to let her know it was fine. Then the other girl closer to the heat lamps stated it will take fifteen minutes. And then they both stated it would take fifteen minutes, so do I really want it? Well after that, I guess not, since they decided for me. Good products, bad service. Such a shame…

After standing in line behind 4 guys that I guarantee were scammers and watching them order then give each other money then order some more and pay cashier while asking for change(3 card monty style) for about 15 minutes I just left. On top of never making it to the cashier those around me were being told up to a 15 minute longer wait on their orders.

I was quite impressed by the quality and service of this Popeyes location. Things have definitely gotten better since the grand opening and extreme wait times seem to be a thing of the past. They seemed to be much more efficient than my last time here. The drive thru has also been changed up a bit since the grand opening by leading the line down a backstreet instead of thru the parking lot which helps a ton with traffic flow! I also love the variety of items that they offer. I have tried the hot chicken, the chicken fingers, the fish and the shrimp. Oh and I can’t forget there po boys and amazing biscuits! Always hot and always delicious. The variety of sides is quite impressive too. Green beans, Mac n cheese, Cajun mashed potatoes, beans and rice, Cajun fries just to name a few. Service has improved a ton. I think they finally ironed out all the employees that were just there for the paycheck. Cedar Rapids was in major need of a hot chicken place and from what I have tasted so far this fills the gap. I would have to choose it over kfc myself.

Not very happy after eating here. I think it might be this franchise. The staff just acted like that they were there for a paycheck. Just not very frendly. The portion sizes of the chicken weren’t very big. The mashed potatoes had been in the warmer far to long and were dry. The coleslaw had good flavor but lacked portion size. The inside of the store was clean as was the men’s restroom. To say the least I will not be returning to have chicken here. I will go To KFC

Warning… the food here is not good… not even a little good. The staff seem to not be aware they are suppose to be there to serve you the food & beverages. Recently pulled up to the drive-thru to grab a few drinks but they had those orange cones blocking the drive-thru. An employee came out & removed the cones so we pulled up to the order area… and sat for a few then starting asking if anyone was there. After no response, we pulled up to the window and noticed an employee standing across the room on her cell phone… ignoring us. Long story short, we left with 15 minutes stolen from our lives… what a joke

I don’t even want to give this place one star! First time I visited was just after they opened. I was not impressed with the food and the service was worse! Just stopped earlier today to get a couple drinks through the drive thru… no one in the drive thru, we waited long enough for someone to take our order but no one did. We drove up to the window and saw an employee on her phone! Not even a glance our way! Who«trained» these people? Never will I go there again!!!

First off I love Popeye’s. I spent 20 years in the Army and they are almost always on Army posts. That being said this location is beyond a joke. I tried it twice. Never again. I allowed the terrible service to opening jitters the first visit. Today I waited in line after ordering for over 25 minutes before going in to ask what was going on. I was greeted by stares, mind you they told me to pull over. No offer of something free no offer of a sorry just bank stares. This was at 2:30 in the afternoon. No manager to talk to… terrible terrible service.

I’ve always liked Popeye’s chicken but I gotta say I would never wait 30 minutes in a drive thru lane for it. Hopefully by now everyone in CR knows it’s just fast food chicken and the craze has worn off by now. Popeyes has some unique sides like red beans and rice, cajun rice and jabalaya. As far as their chicken goes, I like it better than KFC but Hardees(yes Hardees) has better chicken tenders and no one ever lines up down the street for Hardees! Maybe they should.

After eating there earlier this afternoon with my wife, we both are in agreement that there is better chicken elsewhere in town. It’s not horrible by any means, just not our cup of tea. Think you should try it regardless of what anybody posts. I personally won’t be back. Not a big fan of greasy food.

Let me try this again since my last review didnt seem to pass muster for Unilocal.I ordered the 3 strip basket. I got 3 very small pieces of chicken with a major amount of breading. The dipping sauce was watered down buffalo sauce. There was no ketchup for the fries and no butter or honey for the biscuit which looked and felt like a puck so I didnt eat it. There are better places.

I am a long time Popeye’s“s fan. This location is an embarrassment. The help, at least at night, is slow, and playing on their phones in plain sight of customers. It is a Popeye’s franchise. The food is fast food, but it is predictable. I hope management addresses either their training or personnel issues.

The drive-thru is a ridiculous mess, my husband & I waited for 25 minutes. Whoever designed this should’ve moved the Popeyes sign over & created an entrance onto Blairs Ferry Road from the drive/thru, circling back around the building to the one and only outlet gums everything up. While we there, we got to watch the workers take smoke breaks and going back and forth to 2 storage pods located across the parking lot for supplies. The woman taking our order was not familiar with the menu, my husband ordered a 4 piece dinner and she said they didn’t have that. She did correct herself. I’ve lived in the south for many years and have frequented other Popeyes establishments. I’m giving Cedar Rapids three stars, because the food was a good temperature and met my typical Popeyes chicken and menu expectations. Other than the drive-thru, my only disappointment was no fried okra.

It’s Popeye’s so what can I say? It’s a new fast food chain in the area so we’re all queuing up to try it. I eat at them occasionally when I travel for business and they always seem to be tweaked for the local market. This one tastes a little different to me then some I’ve had. My wife was disappointed there wasn’t any fried okra but I think the world is better off without it. I think they may not have given me spicy chicken because it didn’t have any spice warmth. It was less spicy and more crispy then I remember it from other locations. All in all I felt like it was decent meal for the price. Our food was temperature hot but we had to wait forever to navigate through a screwed up drive thru that must have been designed by a 5 year old. Once we had our food it took a long to leave because the inbound traffic can block the exit. I’m sure it will be easier to navigate once everyone realizes Popeye’s isn’t that great and the traffic drops off.

Hands down, I enjoy Popeye’s(not sure why this is listed as Pop) chicken and biscuits more than KFC’s. The chicken seems to be crispier and not as greasy. You can choose between spicy or mild(the mild doesn’t really have any spice to it). I also really enjoy their Cajun Fries as well. Popeye’s recently opened and we avoided it for the first week because the lines were so long. Cars were backed up on Blairs Ferry Road, people were parking in the nearby gas station and Wal-Greens parking lots to try and get inside. Last week as I was running errands, at about 11 a.m. I thought maybe I could beat the lunch rush and headed over. By the time I got there, there was already a line of cars, fortunately it wasn’t out onto Blairs Ferry yet, but my wait time was about 30 minutes. I would have tried going inside, but the parking lot was full… except some of the spots that are blocked by the drive-thru line which would make it more difficult to get out later. The first menu board isn’t completed yet, so you have to wait until you pull up, or you can pull up the menu on your smarty pants phone since you’ll be waiting for awhile. I was ordering for a number of us and didn’t remember the family meals being quite so expensive. I decided that an 8 piece family meal, adding an extra side, and an order of the shrimp would be sufficient. The guy at the window seemed to be a bit confused on orders, so I confirmed my order with him and he checked everything in the bag, so I thought I wouldn’t need to check the order since he had just done it. Getting out can be just as tricky since some people try to skip the car line to try and find parking, but end up blocking the driveway. Fortunately there is a staff member who has been trying to direct traffic to keep that from happening. When I got back, we started to pull everything out of the bag and notice that one of our sides was missing, the red beans and rice. Ugh. I paid for an extra side and only wound up with one anyway. I tried calling, but as I anticipated, could not get through as they were so busy. The food was good, but things were not hot… or in some cases not even warm and the shrimp seemed like it had been sitting out for a long time. A bit disappointing to wait all that time for old food. Based on this, I would wait, a little longer before making you trip to Popeye’s. Let them work out the kinks and let the crowds die down so you don’t end up with a disappointing experience. They do have good food and it is worth waiting a little longer until they get it under control!

Popeye’s is a great addition to Cedar Rapids! I’ve eaten at the one in Waterloo every time I pass through the area and am thrilled there is one closer! In a nutshell, I think they have better tasting food and it is a better value than the place started by that Kentucky gentleman.(the guy with a white goatee) My favorite is the spicy chicken. It’s got a little bite but is not overly hot. As far as the flavor and quality of the product, Popeye’s is awesome. I’m a fan of the red beans and rice, the potatoes and gravy, corn, etc. The cajun french fries are wonderful! Here’s another thing to ponder… Would you rather pay $ 8 for a greasy burger, fries, and a coke or have a 3 piece chicken dinner, a side dish, biscuit, and a soda? I say Popeye’s is a lot better value dollar-for-dollar! In addition to great food, one of the things I like about Popeye’s is the friendly service. I’ve experienced that at every location visited so far. It’s refreshing to be able to go to a restaurant where the people like working and treat you well(not like some of the burger joints). During the first week of business, Blairs Ferry Road was affected by a long drive-up line. That’s getting a lot better as the newness wears off. Plan to wait a few minutes during rush periods but they are pretty efficient at getting the food out. FYI: Many do not know this but in 6 months we are getting another Popeye’s in Cedar Rapids. One of the employees told me it will be in the old Quiznos building(corner of E Avenue and Edgewood Road NW). It was once a 7 – 11 /Quik Shop.
