The Astoria Inn is the WORST hotel I have ever stayed in. I had called about a week prior to my stay and booked a room with a king size bed. Once I had arrived at the hotel, I was charged for the room with a king size bed in it. I went upstairs to room 312, I found that I was in a room that had to double size beds. I then proceeded to go back to the check in area, and Teresa the clerk, informed me that the king-size rooms were all sold out. She let me know that they had known about this prior to my arrival but no one, at any point, had let me know. I found this quite difficult to believe since there were only three cars in the parking lot. Not only that, but then she tried to guilt trip me into staying in the room with the two double size beds. She said to me that she«hopes the gentleman who had reserved a king size room will not be upset». However, I myself had reserved a king size room and I was upset especially seeing as how I paid for a king-size room. After much debate, I finally was able to go into the room that I had paid for. The room was outdated and did not appear to be very clean. Additionally, the hallways smells of mold and while running the air conditioner unit in my room it smelled of smoke. The elevator, the only way indicated to get to the third floor, was in disrepair. For the cost of $ 90 per night I expected much more out of a small local hotel. I generally try to frequent small businesses however, I will not be returning!

I’ve stayed here multiple times, but the only reason I keep coming back is because it’s the only game in town. I really want to like this place, in part because I like being contrary when I see a small business getting uniformly negative reviews, but I just can’t do it. The negatives: — Rooms are way too expensive for what you’re getting. — Cleanliness leaves something to be desired. First, they apparently only do a full cleaning when you check out. If you’re there multiple nights, don’t expect to come back to a clean room on night two. Even on check-in to a newly cleaned room, there are issues. We stayed in 2 different rooms on our last stay due to a mix-up(not docking them for that b/c we had a large party of folks with very similar names), so we experienced two new rooms. In the first, we found multiple pieces of dog food and 2 unopened cans of Bud Light on the floor just under the edge of the blanket. In the second, there was an enema kit under the sink. Other members of our group found dirty socks and other assorted goodies in their rooms. There was also an issue with several rooms smelling like smoke, or alternatively just smelling musty. Unfortunately opening the window wasn’t an option in several of those rooms b/c of screens that had holes or were missing altogether. Luckily, the sheets seemed to be clean– we didn’t notice any of the bedbug issues that have been raised by other reviewers. — Communication over the phone is lacking. When making our reservation, we asked if we could get a crib or pack-and-play for our room, and were told yes. We called back a month or so later to confirm, and were told they didn’t have any of those. After hearing that, another person in our party called and was told yes, they do have them. When we arrived late at night with tired kids, we were told they didn’t have them. Four conversations, four different answers. When the front desk was told about this, he was apologetic but didn’t really have an explanation other than that«some people who work here think we have them.» To his credit, he then went and looked through their storage and found out they did have one. However, the bottom was too broken down and warped for us to use it. — Pool is out of service. I realize that this just happens sometimes– you have to shut things down for repairs, and people who show up during that time are going to be annoyed. However, I bring it up b/c I notice that other reviewers were noting the out of service pool in August ’14. Based on how it looks(very, very nasty), I wouldn’t be surprised if it had been out of service continuously since then. If that’s the case, it’s pretty shady to continue advertising a pool. — Poor amenities: No shampoo other than some very chemically looking/smelling stuff in a built in squirt bottle in the shower. Towels are very thin and very rough, to the point we felt bad bathing our kids with them(they kept squirming away when the wash rags touched them). The positives: — The staff is generally friendly. That’s pretty much it, and the only thing that keeps me from giving the one star that this place probably warrants. I wouldn’t recommend staying here to anyone unless they really, really need to stay in Knox. If you don’t have to, stay somewhere else and just commute in.

I just got back from speaking to the owner of this hotel, and I have it on video as well. There were bedbugs in ATLEAST room 106. My daughter had to go to the ER because of a bad reaction to the HUNDREDS of bites that the Dr counted on her. Shes on Antibiotics and pain killers. The place smells of mold, the pool looks like a swamp and isnt open to the public. Room 107 is someones storage room with a stuffed fox sitting in there with the piles of other clutter and hoard. The carpet was nasty. there was someone elses hairs in the shower. There are soap dispensers in the shower with God only knows WHAT in it, and its all crusted over and nasty. DONT waste upwards of 100 bucks a night to be eaten alive by Vermin. I have it on video, the owner tell me there is no bed bugs and then tells me an exterminator went in room 106 and sprayed specifically for bed bugs but claims he only did it because he was told they were in there. Wheres your proof there ISNT? He would NOT allow me in the room with him so I could show him the spot on the mattress where I found the evidence of bedbugs, but tells me I can come back and go in the room tomorrow. How convenient that he can go in and put clean things in there as to try to prove me wrong. Shame on this guy. The health department is my next stop. You done messed up taking advantage of my elderly father, my daughter and grandchildren. Tisk tisk! My daughters medical bills and pain and suffering will amount to MUCH more than a simple refund, which my family would have graciously accepted. Game on! Dont just take my word for it… Click this link and read the reviews there… Happy Travels!

BEDBUGS! I had family stay from out of town for my wedding. Unfortunately this is the only place in town. This place is damp, dirty and they have BEDBUGS! They would have been better off in a camper in our yard seriously.

$ 93 on a Tuesday night. The temperature outside is in the 90’s and no air conditioning on in the hotel. I turned the air on in the room and it was on for several hours before the room cooled off at all. 1″-2″ crack at the bottom of the room door. No soap, only hand towels in bathroom. Nightstand drawer was filthy and there was a dead cockroach on the bathroom floor. The room had Styrofoam glasses instead of normal ones, and one was stained brown on the inside. I would never stay again, nor recommend it to anyone. The only good thing was the person who checked us in was very nice.

Nothing special here. It’s the diet coke of Comfort Inn’s. Ice machine was broke(in front lobby), but was given all the bag ice we needed so can’t complain there. Room was clean and air conditioning worked well. The bad news is the room was $ 89.00 per night(we got a «deal» of $ 79.00). It is summer so maybe that’s why. If the price was $ 49.00 I might throw another star on it. I’m told it’s the nicer of the 2 hotels in town.
