This is a new farm run by two of the nicest people I’ve talked to in a while. I went to the North Atherton farmers market(Saturdays in the State College Home Depot parking lot, 10 – 2), specifically to purchase from them after checking out their website. I encourage any potential customer to do so– they have a great site that explains their philosophy and story, and they’ve done an excellent job of sharing relevant information for folks who care where their food comes from. The man and woman I spoke to at the market– the farm’s two owners, I believe — were kind, patient, and incredibly helpful. For one thing, I got there about 30 seconds before the market was supposed to end. And I had questions(I haven’t eaten pork since before I was cooking my own food, so I needed guidance on how to prepare it). They spent plenty of time offering options for roasting and slow cooking, and told me about different cuts. Then, when the roast they had gotten out turned out to be too large for me, they kindly searched their inventory and found a suitable cut for me and my husband.(Market has been over for at least 10 minutes at this point…) They sell at the market and I believe you can order various cuts or even larger portions, directly from them, if you call to place your order and make arrangements to come and pick it up. Their pork is pasture raised, a huge deal for me(and actually the only reason I’m even giving pork another shot– I’ve heard horror stories about how most pigs are raised, but I believe these animals were kindly, healthfully and responsibly raised). They also sell soaps and pastured eggs. They’re new– let’s get them off to a great start!
