I’ve been suffering from various foot pains over the last 10 years. I’m pretty active person and regularly ride bicycles and motorcycles, go hiking in the mountains, play golf, etc. I have gout conditions that comes and goes, had tendonitis in the heels, bone spurs at the heels, etc. Recently I had very painful swelling in the ankles which I thought was a gout attack. Dr Hurst quickly diagnosed it as tendonitis, not gout. I think he’s very knowledgeable, experienced and accurate in his diagnosis. I’ve been to many foot and arthritis doctors over the years. I’d recommend Dr Hurst for foot ailments without hesitation.

Dr. Hurst helped cure my neuroma and plantar fasciitis that I had in both feet through laser treatments and cortisone shots. His staff is very friendly and knowledgeable. Dr. Hurst listened to all my concerns and gave me great advice since I am a teacher and I stand all day. I highly recommend him and his practice!

I have a very complicated history of foot and ankle problems and Dr. Hurst has been an amazing help to me. First, I injured my left ankle and saw two different orthopedists over a series of two years to deal with pain and inflammation. The first orthopedist said that I had Achilles tendinitis and prescribed anti-inflammatory medication and physical therapy. I experienced an intermittent lessening of symptoms but was never fully out of pain. Unfortunately, this orthopedist seemed satisfied with this result and when I expressed a desire to walk without pain, he told me to just give it time and offered no further treatment or suggestion. I got a second opinion from another orthopedist. This second doctor did an MRI and said I had small tears /cysts /swelling over the tendon. He sent me to physical therapy again and gave me more anti-inflammatories. The physical therapist said that my ankle was too swollen to safely do any exercise, so he focused on getting the swelling to go away. I did this for about two months and, while my pain level improved some, I was still limping and miserable. I went back to the orthopedist, who said he couldn’t do anything else for me. I then suffered a new injury to both ankles simultaneously. The pain was so bad that I could barely stand upright, let alone walk. I could not get a rush appointment with the orthopedist, so I made an appointment with my family doctor. She was aghast at the condition and swelling of my ankles. I explained my treatment history to her and she suggested that I see a podiatrist instead of going back to the orthopedist. I contacted Dr. Hurst and he saw me immediately. I had sprained my right ankle and further injured the left Achilles tendon. Dr. Hurst was thorough and kind, and I felt like he was the first doctor to work with me who understood my desire to walk without pain and who would keep working until we had met that goal. For several months, I went through a variety of orthotics, splints, and braces, and had a long series of steroid injections to try to get the swelling under control. My sprained ankle completely healed and, while I had some much-appreciated improvement in my Achilles tendon, I couldn’t completely shake the pain. After a great deal of consideration, Dr. Hurst and I agreed that anatomical foibles in my foot and ankle were impeding my recovery and that surgery to lengthen my Achilles tendon was the best permanent solution. The surgery was performed at the fabulous Inova Northern VA Surgical Center. Recovery was long and painful, but Dr. Hurst had been VERY clear about what to expect from the surgery, so I was fully prepared for this. I am pleased to report that my Achilles tendon is now completely recovered! In summary, Dr. Hurst’s office is clean and efficient, and his staff is friendly. Dr. Hurst and his staff all remember who I am at each visit. This may sound inconsequential, but it makes me happy. Dr. Hurst takes time with me during our appointments, listens to what I say, answers my(sometimes stupid) questions, and is a knowledgeable doctor and skilled surgeon. I am forever grateful to him for working so hard to make me pain free!

Very professional practice. The front desk ladies are helpful and really know what they are doing. Dr. Hurst himself is down to earth, knowledgeable and caring. I think he is the best podiatrist I ever encounter.
