The food was really good I would probably come back but the service was so terrible the lady that helped us just took are order wasn’t friendly at all she didn’t even check up on us while eating and took her 15 minutes to get me a water i don’t if she was acting like that because we were colored because she was showing more interest in other tables but I still left a good tip but overall good food

I’ve been here a couple of times and never had such bad service. We sat down and ordered some drinks. We got two coffees, one hot chocolate, one orange juice, and two waters. It’s been about 15 minutes and and we still haven’t received our orange juice. We did however get our other drinks. Our server comes over and takes our order and when we ordered a chicken fried steak scramble, they refused to cut the steak and scramble it with the eggs and potatoes that comes with it. We asked our server to just ask the kitchen if they can and she gave us a bunch of attitude and told us that she is the owner and that she is telling us that they will not do that. With the amount of attitude we got, she, as the owner is lucky that we didn’t just pay for the drinks and leave. As an owner of a restaurant they should try their best to do what would make the customer happy and this was not done here. We got our food and it wasn’t right. They completely left the cheese off of the chicken fried steak scramble when EXTRA cheese was asked for and requested NO gravy but got gravy. Also for the breakfast burrito we asked for sour cream in it and they put it on the side. Definitely will not be coming here again. This was horrible.

I called in my order for take out. I had read reviews saying chicken fried steak is good and woman on the phone told me they had a lunch special for that today. It was ready when I got there and a good lunch special. It came with salad or soup. I got the salad; just lettuce cheese and tomato but it was fresh and tasty. Chicken fried steak and potatoes and gravy were all satisfactory :)

First of all. My hats off to the cook. The food and portions are excellent! The quickness in which my food was prepared was also great. However the service here is absolutely terrible! On several occasions i have sat for over 10 minutes before i was offered a drink or a menu. The one waitress they have is obviously over worked and as a result she is very inefficient.

An awesome café! A touch of Mayberry with great food to top it off. Went in at 9am on a Saturday and the place was packed. My waitress was awesome and I will definitely will be back. I highly recommend this place over all the breakfast chains in the area!

We have been to Sam’s several times. Today I ordered the biscuits and gravy, my hubby ordered ham and eggs. The food was very bland. The gravy tasted like flour. The waitress ignored us completely. Several people came in that she called by name, regulars. She was rude and acted like we were a bother. She’ll never call me by my first name, we won’t go back to become regulars. I always give people the benefit of the doubt… maybe she’s having a bad day, maybe she’s stressed because she’s busy… etc…She was so sweet and friendly to the gentlemen at the next table. I felt like she was rubbing it in our face or something… too obvious. My hubby is usually oblivious but even he noticed it. Bob’s in Hughson is a drive but it’s great food at a great price. They are very kind and welcoming as well.

Came to SAMS for breakfast. The staff here are amazing. They are quick to greet you and make sure you are taken care of. The food is great and plentiful. Actually plentiful is not the correct word. More like you can eat your meal for two days. My little brother ordered the chicken fried steak. Look at the picture. Should I say any more? His meal had to come on 3 plates. Yes I said 3 plates. This meal was more like a food challenge but without the challenge. I tried the chicken fried steak and it was great. I ordered the breakfast sandwich and it’s always good. For a great breakfast, come out to SAMS café in Ceres. You will not be disappointed.

I haven’t eaten here for lunch in quite some time. My daughters and I couldn’t decide on something we haven’t had in a while. Perfect go to place for breakfast and lunch. I had the Fish & Chips special today and it was very good. Will be back soon!

Let me say… an egg is an egg. However, country potatoes are a different thing. I usually order hash browns because country potatoes tend to be hard. Not the case at Sam’s. Their country potatoes are soooo good! Soft and crunchy at the same time. I highly recommend it!

I wanted to try this place for a while now. Finally got it out of my system. There was a lot of food. Breakfast for two was $ 29.00 plus tip. I love chicken fried steak, but this one was very bland and lumpy. The waitress said they don’t deep fry them, but it tasted like they fried it in a pan or something with oil. Biscuits and gravy were big and bland. The eggs were regular eggs cooked like I wanted. I opted for tomato instead of potato and they gave me a lot of tomato. That was unexpected. I liked that. They were pretty busy so I didn’t expect quick anything. I’m glad I tried this place so that now I can enjoy trying other restaurants. I did use a lot of pepper and salt to try and get a better flavor.

I ordered the linguica omelette and my fiancé the chicken fried steak. I loved the sourdough toast. My omelette was ok and freshly made. But my fiancé’s steak was greasy and flavorless. He also got the biscuits and gravy. The gravy was white and had no flavor, the biscuits seemed fluffy but tasted like plain flour. We were hoping for something better. We won’t be back.

Great little diner style café. The husband and I had breakfast there. Nice-sized portions(not huge), and the biscuit I ordered was actually fresh, hot out of the oven actually, unlike some other places we’ve been to around here. He ordered a chorizo/egg breakfast with pancake; I ordered the 1-egg breakfast. We were both very happy(did I mention the biscuit??). We both thought the hash browns were just so-so. Didn’t finish them. Service was a little slow(especially since it wasn’t that busy). But it was definitely worth the 15-minute drive, and we’d go there again.

I’ve always been tempted to stop and see what Sam’s café is about. I regularly drive by this place since my work is around the corner. I wasn’t sure if they were a restaurant or only coffee. Finally decided to order by phone on my way to work. I arrived ten minutes later and food was ready in bags to go. Very friendly waiter. Food was very good and coffee as well. Definitely will return.

My fiancé and I were looking for a place to get a hearty diner-style breakfast and finally came across Sam’s Café on Unilocal. We live in East Modesto so Ceres isn’t far to go eat, and we were up for a mini adventure. When you walk into Sam’s, you immediately get the sense that this is a very local joint, with lots of regulars, and just a very Americana, down-home ambience. No need to dress up here — it’s a «no frills» environment in the best way. Waitresses were moving around the place so we just sat ourselves at a very large booth. You have the option of a table our booth, and we came in about 11:30-noon, and there were enough tables open to choose from. No one really seemed to rush over to us so my fiancé got up and grabbed menus. Once we were browsing, a waitress quickly came to take our drink order, and shortly after, another waitress came to take our order. My fiancé and I were sitting on the same side of the table, so she sat right down across from us to take our order. Again, that family-style feel. We ordered a French toast combo and an omelette combo, and they came out very fast, maybe 10 minutes. The sausage and county potatoes hit the spot, the garbage omelette was good — we went light on the cheese which was a good choice. We hung out for a bit just chatting and eating slowly, and again, no one bothered us. We did have to make an effort to flag a waitress down for waters, so that was the only downside. Overall, this place reminds of Luke’s Diner from the old TV show«Gilmore Girls.» YouTube it if you’re not familiar. Very chill, good diner food, fun people watching, and we would come back. Very hard to find a local breakfast joint like this here in the Valley! NOTE: don’t come here if you’re looking for fancy, vegan, or non-allergy type breakfast. This is not your place.

I can honestly give this place 5 stars with no hesitation. I have been coming here for years(almost 8 years to be exact). It is now called Sam’s Café but even with an owner change, the quality has always remained the same. There are so many reasons why this place is fantastic. Most importantly, there is the food. I have never been disappointed with my choices. Everything from the omelets, potatoes, french toast, country fried steak, bacon and the sausage has been cooked to perfection. In addition, the helpings are generous for very fair prices. Even for a hole-in-the-wall, family owned restaurant, the coffee is up-to-par. This is especially important coming from someone who can’t start their day without a cup of joe. Unfortunately, I have never had anything on their lunch menu(I just can’t get enough of the hearty breakfast) but I do have friends who have been pleased with their burgers, sandwiches and fries(pretty standard lunch menu) Bottom line, solely the food would make this place worth it. The service is what makes this place even better. It is a really small restaurant and most of the staff has remained the same over the years, so they often recognize you when you walk in. If you’re not a regular, you can never miss the smile and warm hello. The waiters are very attentive and give great recommendations(even though, anything on the menu is a good choice). Overall, great little restaurant, which is very hard to find in little, old Ceres. Tip:It is often crowded on weekend mornings, so I would get there early if you don’t want to be crammed in the corner or back of the restaurant.

I just discovered Sam’s Café when a friend invited me to Sam’s Café this morning. I had the«Garbage Omlette» and it was perfect. It had everything except linguica. Yhe food was served hot, perfect amount of cheese, and country potatoes. Best of all it was not greasy. I have not had a better breakfast anywhere in Modesto and the prices were reasonable. Staff was friendly and good service. It is convenient, right off the 99 /Whitmore exit. I have a new go-to breakfast joint.
