Got the gamjatang and the guy said it was difficult to eat and it was. You really got to fight for the meat between the bones. Yummy but not great if you really want to impress someone on a date… unless you’re going for that derp dgaf-about-people impression or if you’ve been together with someone for a long-enough time to not care anymore. To each their own! I don’t judge! ;) Nice service, moderate pricing, hole-in-the-wall /cozy, super duper Korean(in a good way), and pretty ok variety. I would come here if I was crazing legit Korean ahjushi style food. They have this super handy to-go option that allows you to make your own budaejjigae for 5.99! Nice price, nice taste.

Randomly found this place on Unilocal since we were attending a graduation nearby. The reviews were good so we decided to try it out. The place is located in a quiet shopping center next to Zion market. Our family really enjoyed our meal. We ordered the bibim noodles, bibim bop, pork bone soup, kalbi. The side dishes were also. Erg good although I wish there were more than 3 options. My favorite was the cold noodles. It was chewy, vinegary and spicy just the way I love my bibim nengmyun. The lady serving us was super nice and took the time to recommend their specials since it was our first time. I only wish this was closer to home!

Gamjatang was legit. It looked spicy but it isn’t. Wish the meat seeps in the broth more though. Definitely want to come back and try the other stuff. Also good portion too. Standard asian service though =/

Good, cheap Korean food at a low price. This is a mom and pop restaurant right down the street from my parent’s house. I love coming here for the different soups. They offer an excellent gamjatang jeongol(pork neck bone soup) and the bajirak kalguksu(baby clam soup with noodles). The pork neck bone soup has a good quality broth with large amounts of bone with soft meat you can tear off with a chopstick. The small for the price of $ 20 feeds 2 people. The baby clam soup comes with slice jalapeños and sliced squash along with manila clams. I like that there is a light taste with the soup with not too much fat or salt. Both soup items definitely the perfect comfort food on a cold, rainy day. I recommend the jjin mandu with kimchi as an appetizer. These steamed kimchee dumplings are mild in spiciness and comes with 5 pieces. The side dishes are delicious and I am particularly fond of the potato dish that is served chilled and thinly sliced. It does get extremely busy here, but I have always been seated fairly quickly. Ordering to go is a breeze. They set up all the entrees, appetizers and side dishes in a box and give you instructions on how to cook/heat it up at home. I do recommend coming here for warm, comfort food served family style. Enjoy!

Be warned: their employees’ service must be questioned, so much so that I had to knock off 3 stars. I am patient when it comes to waiting for my food. However, when I went to eat a late lunch at around 2:30pm, they took my order and left it to be forgotten, though the restaurant was not busy at all. When I asked about it the waitress was not caring or apologetic, just a quick«your order will come out now.» As for food, I have been disappointed every time, not because of the service but solely because the food served are not flavorful but rather tasteless. 3 stars for average quality food. All in all, I want to avoid this place and would not use my own money to eat here. Bummer.

Cheap price for what you get! My husband and I went here on a Friday night and it was not crowded at all, so it was a nice quiet dinner. It’s a mom and pop store, next to other mom and pop shops, and to me that’s definitely part of the charm. On a Friday night, there were two waitresses working, both elderly ladies. Super nice and accommodating, reminded me of eating at an aunt’s place. I wasn’t used to eating the type of Korean food they serve, but the food we ordered were so good! We ordered the gamjatang and the #20(sorry can’t remember the name), but it’s basically spicy soup with ramen inside, sausages, rice cake, spam, ground meat. I also liked that they gave us the purple rice as opposed to white rice, and I also enjoyed the side dishes, although i wish there were more variety. Oh, and the price was super affordable for the portions that you get. I’m glad that my husband picked this for us, love that it was something new that worked out. :)

Love this place! If you are looking for a good place with great nengmyun(I know the struggles of finding a good place) – try this joint! I am VERY particular when it comes to how I like my nengmyun, and there are only TWOPLACES I will order nengmyun from. I will either eat it at Yuchon in Ktown or here. That’s pretty damn special. This place used to be a cursed location. I’ve seen many restaurants and businesses come and go here. Finally, this place opened, and I feel so lucky to have found this joint. The restaurant is pretty small, maybe about 10 tables. I hear their gamjatang is really good and inexpensive, and they give lots of meaty parts(never tried it though). I strictly stick to their nengmyun + kalbi or nengmyun + mandoo combo. Their mandoo is okay – I think it can be better but I’ll take what I can. Just a side note: since this place is pretty small yet popular, it can get pretty packed. Parking is never an issue in this plaza(the same plaza as Zion Market on Artesia and Carmenita). And I hope this place never ever closes.

If you come here, order the nengmyun(cold noodle). It’s the best thing here. It’s refreshing, well made, and they give you a great amount. The broth that it is in makes you feel at peace. It’s slightly sweet, slightly salted, and overall paired with the noodles makes a dish that you will crave in the summer time. The service here is a bit slow though, I almost don’t recommend coming here if you don’t speak Korean at all :[.

So far the best home style cooking of Korean food in town. Their famous potato pork bone stew is very good. spicy bean paste(a little like miso base) cook with pork(bone in) match perfectly. We also order Dolsot Bibimbap and Seafood pajeon(pancake) both the best in area. They put a lot ingredient(beef, vegetable… etc) and octopus, squid, crab meet for seafood pajeon. Seafood pajeon so far the most real pancake in my memory compare to the real one from Korean family before. Hope not too many to go and make me wait longer to get seated… haha

Somunnan is a minute drive from my house, and out of convenience, we gave this place a try. Sister ordered hand-pulled noodles(kalgooksoo) and I ordered the potato/pork stew(gamjatang). It’s a small place with only two servers during a weeknight. Something about my Gamjatang tasted subpar and lacked freshness. And the quality of the meat was not off-the-bone tender. The Kalgooksoo is difficult to mess up on, and tasted much more palatable. The Korean food here will satisfy my emergency cravings, but I am hoping in the future, I’ll have ample time to consider other options.

I went here with a Korean friend for naengmyeon OHMY. This place is amazing! I have been to 5 or 6 places to eat naengmyeon and this is hands down the best. The restaurant itself isn’t very nice looking, it looks a bit old so I wouldn’t suggest it if you’re looking for a place to go out for a nice dinner/date but for a casual meal it is definitely a must. The service is great and the food is even better but I do want to point out that it is probably best that you go with someone who speaks Korean as the ladies that work there primarily speak Korean so it could be challenging. The naengmyeon broth was perfection! Not too sweet and not too salty. I am personally not a fan of sweet broth and have been to several places where the broth tasted like sugar water but this place found the perfect balance of sweet and savory. The portion was extremely generous and everything was perfectly prepared. I also tried kimchi dumplings here that were okay. They weren’t amazing but considering I came here for naengmyeon I think they deserve 4 stars. I will definitely be going back.

I was slightly unimpressed by this place. I usually assume that mom and pop places would be delicious but I ordered the dumpling soup which just tasted like fish water. With no spice at all. Nothing our server gave us made it spicier. But it was nice to try a new korean place.

I tried the Gamjatang since everyone here praised it, and realized this is essentially what I’ve been eating my entire life and I’m not even korean. it’s just a simple pork bone soup with chili paste. I came here because I was craving THE spicy, burn your tongue hot korean soup experience, but this time it didn’t hit the spot. The broth needs the thickness you get at cho dang tofu house… and salt! also, when I asked to make it spicier, the waitress gave me Serrano chillies which were as spicy as bell peppers and some wasabi. lol I ate all of it anyways because I was hungry. it’s places like this where I feel sad I can’t speak the korean language and will forever be an outsider. ‚(I also feel bad when old people work in a restaurant busing table because it’s like, shouldn’t your middle aged kids be taking care of you already?

I passed by this place several times in the past but never bothered to try it since I’m not all that big on Korean food. I only went because my parents heard from a relative that this place is pretty legit. Upon entering I wasn’t exactly sure what to order because menu seemed pretty diverse and couldn’t really tell what their specialty was. I just went by posted pictures on Unilocal as well as what other people were ordering at the time we visited. It seems like the popular items are chick naengmyeon(cold arrowroot noodles with broth or spicy) and stew dishes like gamjatang(pork neck bone soup with potatoes and green cabbage leaves) and dak-bokkeum-tang(braised spicy chicken broth with chicken, potatoes, and carrots). I ordered the chick naengmyeon combo with tteok galbi(ground pork meat patties), my dad got dolsot bibimbap(mixed rice in stone pot), and my mom got the dak-bokkeum-tang. The naengmyeon wasn’t as good as the one at Gombo Wang but it was still very tasty and rather unique. The arrowroot noodles were slightly sweet and the broth was very refreshing with a little bit of carbonation. The broth kind of reminded me of mool kimchi. It came with shredded cucumber, hardboiled egg, thinly sliced radish, two slices of beef, and some spicy sauce. Only thing I didn’t like was the amount of ice in the broth. It looked like the entire broth was frozen when it came out. It barely moved when I shook my bowl. The tteok galbi was seasoned well with some soy sauce and sugar. The balance of sweet and salty was just right. I also tried little bit of parents’ dishes and they were pretty good too. This place was packed on a Monday night with bunch of Korean people so I guess the word has gotten out, as indicated by the name. It’s located on the corner of Artesia & Carmenita, in the same shopping center as Zion Market.

Based alone on the gamjatang that I ordered, this place should get no more than 1 star. The bowl of pork neck soup smelled foul and the meat they put in was obviously old meat that had previously been cooked. It made me wonder if they gave me old left overs from other customers that they froze and reheated… It was so bad that I didn’t bother eating it after a few bites. It definitely was the WORST gamjatang that I ever had in my life, no doubt about it. Despite the horrible gamjatang, I’ll give them 2 stars because couple of the other dishes I tried were not too bad. I tried some mool nengmyun which was decent as well as the seafood pancake, which was a steal for what they were charging. However, the bibim nengmyun wasn’t as good and the kalgooksu came with horribly seasoned broth. I would recommend against coming here for cheap gamjatang. There’s a reason why it’s cheap… Not a single ingredient in the gamjatang seemed fresh. Maybe I got unlucky, but I am not willing to find out by ordering their gamjatang again.

It’s known for the naengmyun. I got the spicy naengmyun + meat dumplings combo. $ 10.95 w/tax = $ 12. Only naengmyun= $ 7.95. Pros: — best naengmyun*** — kind server — air-conditioned — Plenty of seating, around 18 four person tables. — one TV — clean environment Cons: — dumplings are not bad nor really delicious. Just okay. Combo gives 5 pieces of steamed dumplings. — two side dishes and miso type of soup with naengmyun. I wish they would give more side dishes(see picture). — *i think they add radish kimchi and one other side dish when you order regular dish. *I would come again just for the naengmyun.

So happy they’re now open on Sundays. Their nengmyun is so refreshing and perfect on a hot day. This is a great spot for some quick and delicious Korean food. We even saw a lady making dumplings outside!

I really should broaden my horizons here, but the bibim nnaengmyun is so friggin delicious. The first time I had it, I did the + kalbi combo. Every time thereafter, I have ordered the bibim nnaengmyun + mandu. You can order either kimchi or meat mandu. It is steamed and so good. I have kinda made this a comfort food home away from home for myself since my mother lives almost 3000 miles away! Lol… $ 10.95 for the nnaengmyun + mandu combo $ 14.99 for the nnaengmyun + kalbi combo

When you’ve had a whole weekend full of fatty, greasy, unhealthy, fried, staple American diet foods, the inner Korean in you just vies for this kind of nourishment. My friends and I took a trip to the central California coast and on the drive back down, we all had the same sentiment. We wanted, no craved some Korean food. Unfortunately, a lot of Korean restaurants tend to be closed on Sundays, but thank the good Lord Almighty that Somunnan is now open Sundays. When you want some authentic Korean food, this is one of the places to go. You really can’t go wrong with any of the dishes here. They really have everything for any occasion. If it’s hot, get the nengmyun. If you want spicy, get their jjigaes or dduhk-bohk-ki. If you feel carnivorous, get their galbi or dduhk galbi. If it’s colder, you can get their gamjatang. This place is sorta hole in the wall, so keep an eye out for it. It’s in the same plaza as a Zion market, and next to a taco bell/KFC.
