As a new homeowner, I called my inspector because of a heating problem; he recommended Mattex Services. I subsequently called Mattex for various matters: heating, plumbing and electrical. The only ‘negative’ comment I’ve heard was that ‘they’re kinda high’; I decided you get what you pay for, and found that their charges are not high considering the quality of service, reliability, workmanship, timeliness, and mannerisms of all technicians. Then I referred Mattex. My neighbor wanted a major installation job done, new heating/cooling unit. She is very pleased. No regrets; not even ‘wish I had done it sooner’; having been in her home only about 6 months, February is not a month to plan to have your entire heating/cooling replaced with an efficiency upgrade. This day, 2÷11÷16, when the temps were 7 — 20 degrees, the work was done efficiently; the house didn’t have a chance to get uncomfortably cold; the remainder of this winter will be quite comfortable and there’s still time in the season to see a difference in the utility bill. The techs cleaned up after themselves in a manner that caused a comment about showing up the rest of the space. I stopped by to see … the atmosphere was like family working on various projects; even the pets were calm. Thank you Jaret, Vince and Seth. Referrals are a valid expression of appreciation. Mattex Service deserves your consideration. They have our business.

My wife and I purchased a home in July 2015 that we knew from the inspection would need a new furnace and A/C unit immediately. We got estimates from three respected HVAC contractors in the area and ultimately went with Mattex. Of the three contractors to give estimates, Mattex was by far the most thorough. Their representative crawled the length of the house in the crawlspace to make sure he understood every part of the ductwork, etc. in sizing the units we’d need. Because of this, he actually discovered an issue in the ductwork(which we’d known from the inspection) that none of the other contractors would have ever discovered. Another advantage of Mattex is that it is a Trane dealer. In the HVAC universe, Trans is known for putting tremendous R&D dollars into their product. As such there is a consistency in their product that is unmatched. And dealers who distribute their products are held to very high standards in terms of required training. Knowing that there is a publicly held company(IR) to hold responsible if something were to go wrong is a very assuring thought. Though I doubt I’ll ever have to put that to the test. In the end Mattex was not the cheapest contractor, but was within 2% of the next option I was considering. That was money well spent. I would certainly recommend Mattex to anyone needing HVAC work.

replaced my AC coil in summer of 2015, just now getting around to posting my review. after another local champaign HVAC repair company tried to upsell me to an entirely new system, i called mattex for a second opinion. they found my AC leak in the coil, replaced the coil and refilled the coolant, and basically saved me from spending thousands more on an entirely new system. HVAC repair is an easy way for companies to rip you off as most people don’t understand their system(including me). mattex didn’t try to BS me and that means something to me. i don’t know their prices compared to others and i don’t really care — i’ll use them exclusively because they’re honest. the tech who lives in mahomet is the one who came to my house. don’t want to mention his name but he’s a freakin’ genius. he knows HVAC, plumbing, even construction(roofing, drywall, etc.). i talked to him for about 45 minutes while he was working. super cool guy who knows just about everything about a house, from the foundation up.

We had a toilet that would draw water every 20 – 30 min without being flushed. Knowing it must have been a seal that was bad I called Mattex to come out and repair it. It took about 4 days for them to be able to come out.(Fairly timely in my opinion as it was not an emergency) The first gentleman showed up and replaced the seal but it did not«work.» He said I was going to need a new flush valve and several other things. He then went on to tell me purchasing an entire new toilet was an option and he could come back and install it. My husband and I both thought his was a little extreme and sent him away.(He said he didn’t have the parts and wouldn’t until Monday. This was a Friday) A few min later I get a call from ANOTHER mattex worker and he said he wanted to come look at the toilet. He came in and within 5 min had the issue fixed. He said the seal was not lined up properly. I appreciate him being honest and apologetic.

I’ve had Mattex come out twice to do plumbing work. The first was a job that was supposed to be done under our home warranty(useless things it is, but that’s a story for another post) and the 2nd was to install a new dishwasher. Both guys were professional, on-time and good at what they do. The leak in our tub was fixed quickly and quite inexpensively. The 2nd job was done very professionally — even as the installer encountered problem after problem after problem(nothing on his end — all to do with issues with my house). The dishwasher install ended up kinda pricey, but he did a great job. I found out later that when the home inspection company denied my claim for the leak, the Mattex guy went to bat for us and tried to argue with them about the charge. While we ended up paying for the whole thing — it was nice to have someone speak up for us. Would definitely use them again and recommend them.
