South Riding is where I live, where I’ve raised my kids so far, where I come home from work. The lack of good restaurants, serious lack of common-sense(as in low) speed limits, and the neighborhood code enforcement cops notwithstanding, I really like living here. There are pros and cons everywhere — South Riding has plenty of each. This review centers around the proprietary so I’ll scope my comments to just the HOA. They do a great job of celebrations, festivals, parades, etc. There is rarely a shortage of neighborhood activities. 4th of July fireworks, ‘Celebrate South Riding’, Oktoberfest, and many others are well enjoyed by the family. On the negative side however, I’ve had a couple negative interactions with SRP, I went in once to Town Hall to buy something and they gave me a bunch of guff over something pretty silly — really didn’t appreciate it. Also, snowplowing only covers the larger roads, not the smaller alleys that you need to get out of. So often when there is snow, the main roads have pavers going over them every 3 minutes while the alleys have to be hand-shoveled. Grrrrr… We do enjoy South Riding and will be here for the foreseeable future. When we upgrade the house, it’ll definitely be just down the street.

Yes, I am reviewing my HOA because I am impressed by the events, services and amenities offered by this community. After we moved in we were invited to an orientation. Every committee was represented and we got a boatload of information in those two hours not only about regulations, but events and services offered to residents. There are so many events throughout the year and some that I am especially looking forward to are the Friday night concerts and Monday/Wednesday movie nights. They are all sponsored by the HOA. Another(that I unfortunately missed last year) is the Fall Fest which features live music, food trucks as well as, international, regional, and seasonal beers. I have to say the application process for making changes to our deck seemed a bit intimidating after reading the documentation, but I contacted the covenants committee and Tracy was super helpful. It was an easy process and we received our approval quickly. These people work hard to make South Riding a great place to live!
