For a hot sandwich, this is where I like to go. Show them your ID on your birthday and get a free medium sandwich! I also checked into Unilocal here and unlocked free chips and a drink! They have a Coke freestyle machine at this location which makes it extra fun! I love how you don’t have to deal with the BS of signing up or printing out some stupid coupon or worse, having your offer go to your junk mail and forgetting about it altogether. The King’s Hawaiian pork and slaw sandwich is pretty rich so you’ll probably want to split that up into two meals. My go to is the Firehouse Hero. YUM. While waiting for my sandwich, I always fill up to go containers of their specialty hot sauces. Dave’s crazy caribbean is one of my faves!

This location is very clean and has exceptional and quick service. I’ve never had a sub par experience here. Every sub I’ve ordered has been great.

i’m new to the area and this is right within walking distance. i was hoping to try a little more local deli food rather than a chain, but i was hungry! friendly attentive staff and the brisket sandwich i had(NY steamer sub i think?) was so tasty. perfect with their recommended dressings and cheese too. saw some reviews that stated they were disappointed in the size of the sandwiches but i found it right on target, hunger satisfied and i don’t like to get stuffed over lunch anyway! oh yeah — agree with the reviewer on their pickles. crunchy, good flavor.

This firehouse location is par for the course. It has some unique UNC and Chapel Hill murals on the wall but the food is comparable to other locations. As far as sandwich shops in Chapel Hill I would say this is one of the better ones. If you are in Chapel Hill and you are looking for an alternative to Franklin St or right next to campus check out the stores in Meadowmont. There are quite a few places to eat in which it won’t be all students.

Nothing too fancy for me, though the sandwiches are better than Subway and definitely tastier than Jimmy John’s. I don’t even remember what I are. I’ll try it again sometime though I’m sure, when I’m specifically feeling a sandwich and a fancy soda from their special machine with 1000 flavors.

This is a notch above Subway, Quiznos, and definitely above Jimmy Johns. I’d put them in the same category as Jersey Mike’s, but having more healthy options, better ambiance, easy ordering with pictures, and one of those amazing soda fountain machines where you can pick from 97377389 different combinations, like vanilla peach diet ginger ale. It has a nice patio for outdoor seating near a water fountain, and is dog friendly.

So I don’t know about y’all, but there’s something to be said for a place where the employees are still willing to eat the food. Back in my college days, I worked at a Firehouse Subs and that experience made sure I didn’t want subway ever again. I laughed when I read a comparison to Subway(a chain like Subway but on the east coast? Is Subway on the west coast GOOD? Because here it’s 2 pieces of bread, a slice of cheese and a slice of meat covered with shredded lettuce). But Firehouse? Well you’re going to get a LOT of meat, cheese, and veggies. The meat is steamed, so your meat is hot(but not dried out) and your cheese is melty on your toasted bread… which is how I like my subs. I can get sauteed onions as a topping(heck yes, no onion breath, but still tasty onions!) Want to add a spicy sauce? Go for it! Their pickles are LEGIT if you like yourself a good dill spear. Let me give you a little insight in to why Firehouse is so good: Every morning, hours before they open, employees go in and they fresh slice meat and veggies. They portion them in to REAL portions(not 1 tiny slice of meat) and they begin the sauté process. This means your meat hasn’t been sitting around for days drying out, and it shows when you take a bite. I haven’t worked at a Firehouse Subs in years at this point, and I’m still a convert(Obviously! haha). I really like this location! It’s clean, the staff is friendly, and it’s convenient to my work. If I want a sandwich, I get Firehouse. Not a single person I’ve brought here for the first time has looked back :)

This is one of the best sub shops we have been to. It basically puts other sandwich sub shops to shame. The ingredients used at Firehouse Subs are incredibly fresh, and everything really does taste great. The meat is fresh, and you are given a lot of it. Plus, the sandwiches are made to order, so it doesn’t feel as if you are just going along the line pointing at pre-chopped items to place on your sandwich. You give your order, and they take the time to freshly make your sandwich while you wait, and they bring it over to you when it is ready. We have been incredibly impressed by this particular location, because the staff is always very friendly. They are also very fast. The atmosphere at this location is great too, and they have a huge wall painting highlighting the UNC fire & rescue squad… complete with a little tongue in cheek humor geared at the local sports teams.

Better than Subway I guess, but nothing to write home about. The place was clean and I was able to use the Unilocal check-in offer to score a free drink and chips, so a good lunch ended up being less than $ 7.

It’s a chain. A chain just like Subway but on the east coast. *yawn* Ya feel me?

This was a great little lunch experience. The folks behind the counter were very friendly and brightened my day. I had the veggie sub on wheat and it was warm and cheesy and very good. I’d recommend to anyone looking for a quick lunch near Meadowmont.

It has been a while since I was at a Firehouse Sub, and I was pleasantly impressed with the selections, the quality, the taste of the sub, the cleanliness of the restaurant and the friendliness of the staff. Definitely will return.

Nothing great about this place. Our subs had little to no dressing, my chili didn’t come with cheese, onions and jalapeños like I had requested. Of course I didn’t discover this until I left the restaurant. The chili was super greasy and runny. They use too much tomatoes and not enough chili power and other spices. We had a big surprise upon opening one of the subs, we found a rather huge gnat in the sub! Ewwwww!!! And yes the pickles are good but they’re just claussen pickles, that you can buy at the grocery store. I think next time I’ll just go get stuff from the store and make my own sandwich.

Is this a new sub, this tiny, thin thing that’s a third smaller(at least) than what used to be served from the Franklin Street location? With the move to a new upscale neighborhood Firehouse apparently kept the prices while reducing the goods. Hardly makes it worth the effort to wait, and it certainly isn’t worth the price. Nice people serving, but that’s about it. Firehouse lost a long-time customer tonight.

Best Pickles around. I know they are a sub shop, but I have yet to find better pickles. Maybe its the New York water they make them with by the distributor. The hot subs are good too. Started going to this store when it was on Franklin Street and even though it took them a bit to get my order right, they were always great about it and friendly. Wish they were still on Franklin as while I often pass near their new place, I don’t usually stop there unless I am really Jonesing for their pickles. :D

This is the firehouse that moved from Franklin St in downtown CH. Recently opened in Meadowmont and now a much more convenient locale for me and for parking. I have since visited twice and my experiences have been positive. The staff is very friendly and greet customers as they walk in. The subs are good and made to order. They take about 3 – 5 minutes to prepare but I prefer this to an already made sub. Overall, a good quick sub for lunch.
