Is Yes your favorite band? Do you listen to Rush just so you can tap your friends excitedly on the shoulder when they slip into 7⁄3 time? Did you ever hear of Camel(the band, not the cigarettes)? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you’ll love ProgDay. The festival bills itself as the«world’s longest running progressive rock festival», and features bands from all over the world playing in that long winded, exhausting style. The festival runs Labor Day weekend on Storybrook Farm in Chapel Hill, and you can usually see about 4 or 5 bands a day. I’ve seen some really great bands during my visits, and also some real snoozers(I must confess: I don’t actually love Yes). If you’re a fan of twelve minute long songs about mythological creatures, though you’ll love ProgDay. Just be aware, it is outside, and at the end of August in North Carolina, it can get mighty toasty so be bring plenty to drink.
