This low rating is for the management of this place. 1) Didn’t have cash available in the register for the cashback option on purchases. 2) Cashier leaves register ajar to help another customer at another register. 3) Manager comes back with cash, then publicly admonishes cashier, who must have been rather new. I don’t think that is a good way to manage people. Do that in private, not in front of customers. It’s embarrassing to be scolded on the job, and it’s embarrassing to witness as a customer. I don’t give a damn if your register is open or not. But I do give a damn if you treat people kindly and with general respect. Other than that, the place is a typical Staples, with whatever you might need!

I’m in here almost every week to pick up the programs for church on Sundays. Well everyone in the copy center knows me by name, and automatically enters my Staples reward discount. I submit my orders online, and only once have I had a slight problem to which they re-printed and corrected. Only downside. parking can be a pain!

We were disappointed that we could not get boxes to help my daughter move. Whole Foods gave us lots of boxes. We did get a nice tape dispenser for moving. They were $ 7.79 each. They had refills for the dispenser that cost $ 10.79. This store was close to my daughter’s apt so we did well to get the tape here. We got a great parking space right up at the front of the store and rain was of course threatening so this was a plus.

It being the one big office supplies store in Chapel Hill, Staples serves a decent purpose. If you need office supplies and don’t want to go to campus stores to get them, they’re here. Beyond that, it’s Staples. Not really all that exciting.

Disaffected 20 year olds working the register=awful customer service. Pretty much the only place in town though.

Big box stores. They are a part of our world — yea, of our very ethos — and they are here to stay. So often, at the expense of the mom-and-pop businesses along Main Street. Along with the demise of the mom and pop stores, we’ve witnessed the vanishing of customer service. Alas… But every once in awhile, we get lucky. I can’t speak for ALL Staples outlets, just the one on E. Franklin Street in Chapel Hill… where the staff still works hard to provide customer service. I dedicate this review to the gentleman who allowed me the space to properly select a new office chair on Sunday without ever making me feel rushed or otherwise bothered, and then made himself available when we needed help wrestling the box to the front. He even put it in the car for us… Thanks!

I really love this chain store for 3 major reasons: 1. you can score some super sweet deals in their weekly flyers(sign up for their email versions online), 2. they have a FREE frequent buyer club(free sign up) where you can get credit for future purchase based off of what you buy AND what you recycle — e.g. used ink cartridges, and 3. you can avoid all the crazy weekend shopper crowds at other places like Southpoint and New Hope Commons. They really do have some super sweet deals. For example, we got an office chair for $ 40 that retailed for over $ 100!!! Their memory cards(when on sale) can be even cheaper than Newegg and Frys. By recycling your ink cartridges you can score some sweet $$ credits for purchasing other stuff. I recalled the last time I received some credit was for almost $ 25 for something like 8 ink cartridges. You can def. get some decent credit for trying to recycle as well. How cool is that? Another good thing is that they usually sell off their furniture floor displays — again, another great deal to be had if you can find something you like. Really, I don’t think of Staples as the best place to get office and techno stuff… but if you have the patience and can wait a bit on purchasing stuff, you can get some great killer deals here. The biggest drawback is their selection — it can be hit or miss and if you’re dying to have THAT certain thing… well, you might be out of luck here. It’s also super conveniently located for us which is another bonus right behind the Shops at Eastgate and Whole Foods. If you live in/near Chapel Hill, make a stop here when you’re shopping at Whole Foods or TJ’s or right before you rent a movie at Blockbuster. It’ll save you an extra trip to Southpoint or New Hope Commons. Just look for sales and you’ll be set! 4 solid stars. HALF-UPDATE(12÷30÷11): Stopped by here the other day and noticed that they now have free wifi. Awesome for those of us still holding out on a dataplan phone to check-in. ;-)
