It’s pretty overpriced, though quality of the food is just fine. I don’t think you should leave with that big of an indent in your pocket to be full eating the quantity of food that you get. The mango sorbet/ice cream at the end of the meal was delicious. Service is always very nice though.

Solid 3.5 stars I went to Sushi-Yoshi recently with a group. It was my first-time there and I was reasonably impressed. I am no sushi expert only having«discovered» it a few years ago. I have been to most of the popular sushi restaurants in the area including Waraji, Wasabi, Mura, Sono and Sushi Blues. This place is a lot smaller and low key than those places. There are only about ten tables total here. I really like the lighted entrance way which provides a classy touch. I am a creature of habit and ordered the shrimp tempura role which is my usual. This was good, but probably not as good as in some of the places mentioned above. I also ordered the hand wrapped spicy tuna role and did not like this one.(A little too spicy for my taste). This was not the restaurants fault, but not a good order choice by me. Some other people in the group ordered the teriyaki salmon and the vegetable tempura and those looked great, so maybe I will go back again and try those offerings in the future. The service was very good and not too pricey so I would like to revisit Sushi-Yoshi in the future and perhaps give a higher grade. I don’t think a lot of people know about this place. It’s kind of off the beaten path, but near the Durham/CH border and 15 – 501.

A solid 4 stars for being our weekday sushi place. We usually order the special roll, and 95% of the time it is the orange crunchy roll,($ 6.95) and it’s consistently good. The soup and salad are good as well. If you are looking for fancy presentation of the dishes or a trendy place, this is not for you, It’s small, cozy, and not loud and crowded, so my hubby and I really enjoy it. However, we have found that if there are more than 4 – 5 cars in the parking lot, then there may be little wait for the food…

Went to Sushi Yoshi on a Saturday evening and ordered the special. It was a crunchy tuna roll which was delicious. A little heavy on the rice but the fish tasted very fresh. No buy one get on free rolls but the service was great and i didn’t have to wait at all. I will definitely go back.

My favorite sushi place in the area… the downsides are the slower service. and the décor could use a boost. the upside is that the sushi is super. Keep in mind, though, that I only eat sushi with cooked fish/shrimp, as I am concerned about food safety as a dietitian. hence I cannot comment on the raw items. My favorite is the crunchy shrimp. best I’ve had. If you want sushi with a reasonable price, in a nice atomsphere, you should try Sushi Yoshi!

When I moved to NC from the west coast in 2001, my first question was, «Okay … do they know what sushi is here?» They do. Sushi-Yoshi was busy every night, had to wait for a table. But worth it. Good sushi, standard offerings(nothing unusual like Sansui does), but something that few if any sushi bars offer: an oshinko plate. Usually this is pickled daikon or another pickled veggie, but Sushi-Yoshi offered four varieties — home run! Only one other bar I’ve frequented(in San Rafael) has offered me this. If you have only used pickled ginger to «clean your palate,» and love sushi, you’ll want to start asking for oshinko on the side or in a roll. But get used to disappointment, or in the case of Sushi-Yoshi, surprise. Fast forward to 2007, 2008, 2009. Seems Sushi-Yoshi has fallen out of vogue. No more oshinko plate(on the nights I went). Fewer crowds on the occasions I visited; a good thing, since parking behind the restaurant is tres chere. But the sushi and service continue to be good, and it’s a nice, intimate environment for a date.(Go hungry if you order the«love boat» for two — it’s a lotta food.)

I’ve eaten at Sushi-Yoshi several times and always enjoyed my meal. I’ve had both sushi and noodle bowls here, plus an occasional appetizer and dessert. As far as I’ve experienced, they make the best sushi in the Durham /Chapel Hill area.

Sushi-Yoshi attempts to deliver a traditional Japanese feel, offering a private dining room where you sit on the floor(shoe-less) and dine at low tables. While this is a nice touch, most restaurants are based solely on their food and service, and Sushi-Yoshi lacks in both areas. The sushi is moderately priced, and fair for the quantity given. However, the fish tends to taste more ‘fishy’ than at other, better sushi places I’ve been. I don’t know if this has to deal with freshness or quality, but something is wrong with the fish here. In terms of service, it tends to be on the slow side, turning an alright experience into a frustrating one. One time I had to ask the waitress for tea four times before she finally came back with more. Sushi-Yoshi isn’t terrible by any means, and is a good place to go when other places are slammed on a Friday or Saturday night, but I wouldn’t make it my first stop for sushi.

Pretty good and good-priced sushi(and a nice alternative to nearby chain, Kanki). Get the private room if you can — it’s raised and sort of closed-in and you eat on the floor amongst pillows. Sushi Yoshi has an odd location — a little hidden, across from Hardee’s at the 15−501/Old Durham Rd intersection. The outside looks like a Japanese house(or – uh – at least what I imagine a house in Japan might look like). There is never a crowd here. In fact, I have a dormant fear that it will shut down for lack of business. But it’s still standing after the 4 years I’ve been in Durham, and hopefully Unilocal can help give it some more exposure…

I’m sorry to buck the trend of other reviewers. No, Sushi-Yoshi is not worth the time or a visit. A Japanese restaurant can be judged by many criteria. Unfortunately, this place rates poorly on all of those. Sushi/Sashmi — served frigidly on a white plate, with minimal embellishment or effort at presentation. The whitefish was not fresh and tasted fibrous. I cannot remember ever eating something like this anywhere. Goyza– do they even know what goyza is? Goyza is a pan-fried dumpling with THIN wrapping not a whopping doughy lump deep fried and served still dripping with oil. Service — tardy and incomplete — we didn’t even have soy sauce or ponzu sauce for the table; nor did we have little rest block for chopsticks. We had to rest chopsticks directly on the table which was sticky when we first got to it. Overall, I don’t think this place deserves 4 or 5 stars. It is clearly the ugly sister in the line-up of Japanese restaurants I’ve been to. Why give it a high score because there isn’t anything better? Don’t go here. Not unless you have a real thing for elevator music, and want to eat pretty stale fish off sushi boats and get bad service.

Sushi Yoshi is probably the best sushi place I’ve been to in the triangle, and it offers good sushi and decent prices. I’ve certainly had much better sushi in Los Angeles and New York, but given the lack of decent sushi in the triangle I give it four stars.

Restaurant featuring impressive sushi boats. So many fantastic restaurants of this kind in the area, the competition is quite stiff, but Sushi-Yoshi has remained a popular spot for a number of years. High quality sushi and sashimi. Tempura is also very good here.
